      • Read through the Thread < Consumer court makes Honda pay for defective bike >:
With every one complaining about Honda... Thought to post this !!

        Here's my experience with Honda:
I booked the CBR 250R on 09th Nov 2011, got the delivery on 11th Nov 2011.
Its been 6 months, touching 12000kms.
From the Day 1 of booking till today... Be it HONDA or be it Saphire (Dealer in Bangalore)... I am extremely happy to say that I DO NOT have any complaints at all what so ever.

Yes, when I got the bike, the initial few issues did come up, but everything was promptly and swiftly co-ordinated and handled by the dealers with Honda.

Starting from the initial PDI to every single service (even the Bike Wash) has always been done in front of me.

The dealers are not some one I knew from before and I went to the dealer just 5 days before booking the bike. Since then, every time I go there, starting from the security guard to the MD of the showroom every one is extremely good to me.

I once had the front rim bent. The Rim, along with the handlebar clip-ons, oil-filter cover (which was damaged from one of my earlier trips), the front and rear discs... all of these were completely replaced and the bike made ready within less than 24hours.
For the note: When I left the bike at the service station for repairs, I was dropped back to my home door step by them.

Several of tiny issues were handled and minor check-up/service has been done on my bike with-out the dealer charging me for it.
For instance: Yesterday's incident - The clutch lever bolt had fallen off after becoming loose. I went to the Service Station, the mechanic (Zeeshan) took the bike in, got the bolt replaced, got a water wash done (bike was a little muddy after a weekend ride), got the chain lubed... all without a single penny charged from me. --- And all of these done, while I was sitting and chatting with the Service Manager in his cabin.

6 months of owning the CBR 250R, hearing a lot of other owners complaining, while my experience has been completely different.

I am one of those people.... EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE BIKE, DEALER AND HONDA.
        Thank You very much !!

          Update on my previous post

Yesterday I visited Vihaan Honda SVC, Thane to lodge my complaint with the concerned mechanic who attended my bike during its first service last week. I pointed out those 3 points to him and he was humble enough to give an ear to them.

First he took out left side fairing and got the horn checked. He tried adjusting a screw on backside of the horn but still the issue was not solved. I even told him that horn is OK but their appears to be some problem with the contact/wire. He didn't agree and told that he will replace the horn which was currently out of stock. For the missing bolts on lower side of the fairing he put them back without uttering a word. Regarding silencer plate damage he was convinced seeing the corrosion marks and asked me to visit next day when the horn was supposed to arrive and settle the issue.

Today I visited the SVC and met the mechanic to initiate the replacement. He took my signature on a job card which mentioned replacement only for the horn. I asked him regarding silencer plate and he told that his superior refused to do so. Then I directly met the service manager Mr. Bobby and told him the problem. He quickly ordered replacement of Silencer Plate. But he was adamant that it was not damaged during service. I asked him to inspect the plate personally. On inspection he said the paint may have peeled off due to overheating to which I said how come only my plate got such marks and no other cbr here? He said that may be manufacturing defect and took the pics of the same alongwith my bike's number plate and console - ODO meter. I was still trying to convince him that this was due to spillage of some oil/diesel/solvent over the plate which have caused those marks. He didn't agree. Anyways since he had already ordered for replacement I didnt stretch the argument further.

The mechanic came up with new silencer plate which already had a slight bend over the area where a clip is attached to fix it on silencer. He said its common. I told it was not there on my stock silencer plate. Asked him to bring other piece. They had only 1 more in stock. This one too had little bend but it was on lower side clip which is mostly not visible. So I asked him to use that. Next he removed the fairing and horn and tested it on a Unicorn which was standing next to my bike. The horn worked perfectly. That proved my point that its not the horn but the wires/contact which has the issue. Meanwhile other mechanic who also attends CBRs came and asked him to open the horn button assembly on the handle and spray something (I guess WD40). This solved the issue. Apparently it seems rust had gathered over the horn button contact. Now this is very unusual for a bike which was washed only once that too during its first service and is always under cover in parking. Meanwhile I saw another defect. The clip that holds the console wires together was rusted too. I immediately called bobby again and showed him. He again took the pics and told me that he will communicate all this to HMSI and ask for replacements. I was very upset with all this and told him that how can HMSI provide such low quality spares even now when they have hiked the base price and increased spare parts cost. He had no answers to this !

Finally I got my horn working and silencer plate replaced. I was happy that the SVC listened to my problem and resolved it without much fuss. I blame HMSI for providing cheap quality spares on CBR for which they was demanding nearly 2 lac rupees (1.725 is what I paid for this STD Tricolor and didnt even get a number plate forget other accessories).

Another issue I forgot to mention was the curious case of my mirror bolts popping out on their own. Yesterday again I lost another bolt but somehow the mirror managed to be in its place on lower bolt. This is the second time this has happened. First time it was just within a week after I got my bike's delivery. I had even posted it here. To add to our woes, the allen key provided in the tool box cannot be used to fasten these bolts. I had to visit the SVC last time around to purchase the bolt and even get them fixed. This time I visited Andheri market and got the matching allen key for Rs. 15. I already had spare bolt which I had purchased last time around. I fixed it and even tightened others. I wonder how such things could happen with a new brand HONDA bike. I am really disappointed with HMSI as a whole.

Lastly, sorry for this huge post but I hope my experience helps others to solve their problems and someway HMSI learns a tough lesson

            1) It is not a manufacturing Defect.
            2) Ask him if they Diesel wash the bike there? Because this happened to me and when i went in the evening to pick her up, the ASC guy(trembling with fear and with a low humble voice) told me that they accidentally did a diesel wash when the bike's silencer was still hot and thus destroyed the silencer cover in the process(Had he not told me this, i wouldnt have noticed since it was dark), and he assured that he'd get it repainted during next service(which they did free of cost)
Now that i think of it, maybe that explains the paint chipping off the engine we have all noticed(?) over here? Diesel wash to blame?

Hey dude, if you look on eBay/amazon/alibaba.com you'll find tons of suppliers selling full fairing kits for the cbr... Quality is something you should be weary of though, don't expect oem quality...

                  Here it is for you...

Frame sliders, also called frame protectors, fairing protectors, or crash bobbins, are an accessory used on street motorcycles for the purpose of maintaining the bike's side fairings and internal components in the event of a crash, or preventing damage from dumping (dropping) the bike. They are made of plastics such as Delrin, acetal, or nylon, or sometimes aluminum. The frame sliders are usually located and installed on the engine bolts on the left and right side fairings.

Along the same lines, sliders are sometimes added to motorcycle bar ends, and to front or rear axles, called fork sliders and swingarm spool sliders. These provide some potential damage reduction for the suspension components, wheels, and other parts by making contact with the ground before the rest of the bike. Hard-mounted foot pegs, which do not fold upward as normal original equipment foot pegs do, can also serve as a buffer between the ground and the bike's frame and components[8] but risk causing a spill if grounded

Being a CBR thread..here's a Justification for that too..

                        • finally got my bike back after 6days and showroom mechanic does know their job i.e. how to make bike worse ..
1.Problem of footpeg vibration unresolved . When i asked the mechanic about it he told me "sir we have tighted every screw attached to the frame" wow that's their solution to the problem . Then i should have done it with the road side mechanic only no need to go to the ASC.
And 1 additional problem added thanks to My Wings honda
Now i told them to check shim walve and if necessary change it . Well they checked and they told me that it need to be replaced so i said ok then go ahead and then they told sir it is out of stock.. Well they should check the stock first before opening everything and then saying.. And due to this now handle have more vibration ( my hands were numb after 15kms of ride only) which wasnt the case earlier .. And i know it is due to shim i guess ...
                          I respect the threat.

+1; Yes it is; I too experience the same & the ASC has to replace it on mine too.

BTW, let me suggest some options for you as how to get your issues resolved...
                            1. Meet the service manager of Wings Honda; explain how you love your CBR & would like to see it in a mint condition. If you explain clearly, I'm sure by now all your issues will be addressed to their limits.
                            2. If they don't budge out, then ask for the valve clearance report on all 4 valves. If the clearance level is more than 0.2mm, THEY HAVE to change the SHIM
                            3. If they say they run out of stock, then ask them to get the SHIM from some other Honda ASC in Pune. If they say, they're not authorized to do it...its a WHITE LIE; simply avoid going to them henceforth
                            4. If other ASC's don't have the SHIM, then ask Wings to place an order (usually costs more, so they don't do it) & follow-up on daily basis. If they're irritated with your question, explain them calmly that you're doing it for the love of your motorcycle (means, talk polite & make them understand your genuine needs, yelling or demanding NEVER works with Honda )
                            5. If the mechanic tries to give you evasive answers, then gradually insist on meeting the Honda engineer or ask his contact number.

                            Worst case...change your ASC
Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

                            • thanks aagree for advice but it is just matter of time only because once my exams are over i will be going to my home (navi mumbai ) and i will go to ASC which is near my home or vihaan honda (thane) ... Hope they will understand my problem...
And honda showroom near my home i.e. Sharayu honda was very good atleast till delivery don't know about servicing... Here are the things which i liked about them .
Note : this was my first bike and didnt even have a clue how to inspect the bike .
They told me once they get the minimum cash they will order the bike and will get the bike within a week. I made full payment by cheque(which is never advised) on 22nd dec . But no delivery on 29th due to RTO officer not available. But got my bike on 2nd jan.
Now i didnt know what to check for but helped me for inspection too . They told me to check odo and it was 2.5kms exactly . And my brother(who also dont know how to drive bike at that time properly) drove till home.
And after joining Xbhp i came to know how to inspect the bike .
But showroom handed me brand new bike .. So i guess they dont cheat people how other showroom people does ..
I hope they have good mechanic too ..

Yes. On another note, is it only that the ASC here does a diesel wash on the CBRs or does anybody else know if their CBR's get diesel washed during Service? Time to get some answers from the ASC now

Btw has anyone found out the approx fuel for the last bar on the gauge?
Because last night i went to fill her up, she had her last bar blinking for a few seconds and then it stopped blinking. I assumed there was about less than 2 litres in reserve so i thought id fill in 10litres just to be on the safe side. But just under the 9litre mark the tank was full so the last bar pretty much meant there was around 4 litres in reserve but then it shouldnt have been blinking either.
                                Stupid annoying fuel gauge.
