psrji, which brand would you suggest. Do you recommend changing both front and rear. I've never changed it before and planning to do it on my own this time.Originally posted by psr View PostAfter the Initial problem, Honda seems to have stabilized the quality of CBR 250.The problem of non-availability of spares still daunts the owners, but is much better than before....all those having DOT 3 brake fluid in their CBR( Non ABS) please change to DOT 4. there will be a big difference to your braking...
I found this post very useful. I will refer to this post only.

You can follow the method mentioned by Drifty as it is foolproof.Originally posted by Mail2vasant View Post
You can use Motul,TVS Girling oils ,apart from the Castrol ..But remember to use DOT 4 brake fluid...Change brake fluid every 12~15 K Kms ,since it is safety related...
Always change both Front and Back at the same time, so that you can be sure of performance of both brakes. When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Be careful when you do for first time though nothing seriously matters. PSR Ji used TVS Girling DOT4 on mine & I'm pretty impressed.Originally posted by Mail2vasant View PostI've never changed it before and planning to do it on my own this time

The DOT4 & the improper pad fixing issue that you found helped me to reinstate to ASC due to which I was blessed with super excellent brakes during my last trip. Now I'm beginning to feel STD has just adequate braking!!!
aargee can you help besides changing to DOT4 on std cbr what pad fixing was done for i found the braking of std cbr to be sad and in just 1000km the front brake's are no longer quick but shows rubbery effect.
any upgrades for pads.
and what brand dot 4 oil suggested ?"A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Ask or fix yourself the pads to be seated correctly & that will resolve the issue. After PSR Ji diagnosing & fixing my front disc, I now believe the STD brakes are good enough. I really need to apologize to few people like Sudeep who kept saying the STD brakes are adequate & I wasn't trusting their wordsOriginally posted by theironhorse99 View Postwhat pad fixing was done...quick but shows rubbery effect
I was a fool to trust the ASC's work & they blaming the m/c kit for over 12K km until PSR Ji found the real issue. After my last service, I'm scared to leave my bike at ASC for service. The third rated, third grade failed mechanics with know it all attitude do not understand the importance of simple things that causes bigger messes.

Pls read above post from PSR Ji; has exhaustive brand listed.Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Postand what brand dot 4 oil suggested ?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Since you have Non-ABS CBR, change the DOT 3 brake oil to DOT 4 .ASAP...any make listed in my previous post will do the job.I am assuming the brake pads had not been changed by ASC till now in your bike.Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Postaargee can you help besides changing to DOT4 on std cbr what pad fixing was done for i found the braking of std cbr to be sad and in just 1000km the front brake's are no longer quick but shows rubbery effect.

Vasant, the post is very useful and the task is not very difficult. But if you are doing it for the first time, i would suggest you get it done from your trusted mechanic, observe and then do it yourself the next time. I had once screwed up my p180's master cylinder when i tried this first after reading it. Now i do it correctly. Dont want to scare or discourage or underestimate you, but the parts are already facing a shortage if something goes wrong. The mechanic should charge you around Rs.50-60 for both brakes. Also take care the brake fuild doesnt stay on any painted surface as it damages the paint. So wash all the nearby area quickly.Originally posted by Mail2vasant View Post
I will change it asap. Thanx PSRji and Aargee.
You gotta risk it.. to get da biscuit !!!

Nothing to apologize Aargee!
BTW, I'll also be changing my CBR's brake fluids to DOT4 soon for the extra bite it gives.

If you had done more than 15 K Kms or if the brake fluid looks dark....changing to DOT 4 will give surprising improvement.Originally posted by sudeepnbr View PostNothing to apologize Aargee!

I change the DOT 4 in my HH Karizma each year irrespective of the kms I had done, with TVS Girling DOT 4...and have very responsive braking.

My Honda (Car) uses DOT4 from Factory. The change interval mentioned in the manual is 3 years irrespective of mileage. Its first change happened at 55k km. Even the DOT3 on the Pulsar was changed only at 34k (2.xx years). Isn't 12-15k a bit too early?Originally posted by psr View PostYou can follow the method mentioned by Drifty as it is foolproof.

I want to ask, if DOT4 makes such a huge difference in STD brakes, how much money did Honda save by not using them from Factory itself?? Or were there some other issues which you guys took care of which prevented the use of DOT4?Originally posted by psr View PostSince you have Non-ABS CBR, change the DOT 3 brake oil to DOT 4 .ASAP...any make listed in my previous post will do the job.I am assuming the brake pads had not been changed by ASC till now in your bike.
And since we are on the topic of brakes, I am feeling increased brake fade on my new front brake pads(which many of you guys use too) this was not the case on the old non BYBRE ones. Anything I need to know?Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

welcome back aagree... Done my 2nd servicing within 3.5k only ...
Problem of footpeg vibration still there... Got my shim replaced under warranty... And guess what shims makes huge difference on FE .. When done the journey of 220kms with worn out shim FE was 30kmpl and done same journey with shim replaced got 35kmpl... And please be aware of ASC's even for checking for the defective shims... Ask them before itself for availability shims .. If out of stock then dont even think of just checking for the defective shims ...I respect the threat.

Safety has no time or Kms limit..and I religiously change my HH Karizma DOT 4 fluid every year, EVEN when it looks new.Regarding car, they do recommend longer change interval, but to avoid brake seals going bad I change it every 10 k or 2 years which ever is earlier...still the fluid become dark in color...same with the hydraulic clutch...The TVS Girling DOT 4 costs hardly 300/- for 500ml , and the ZMA takes about 100ml for bleed fill, and car the rest...and I am sure of my braking .
I want to ask, if DOT4 makes such a huge difference in STD brakes, how much money did Honda save by not using them from Factory itself?? Or were there some other issues which you guys took care of which prevented the use of DOT4?
Even if there is a difference of only 1/- multiply it by a million which is what volume sales is all about. But once Honda wakes up to reality there will be corrective action, but this needs collective reporting by users.
Since DOT 4 is better in most of the critical parameters of the brake fluid than DOT 3, I do not envisage any particular reason for avoiding DOT 4 in place of DOT 3 in the non-ABS CBR 250
And since we are on the topic of brakes, I am feeling increased brake fade on my new front brake pads(which many of you guys use too) this was not the case on the old non BYBRE ones. Anything I need to know?
Details of Bike, brake system Manufacture, and type of usage ,any change in present system, will help to give a proper answer.Last edited by psr; 06-11-2012, 02:26 PM.When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.
