Re: Honda CBR 250R
Thanks for the suggestion , i might pick IRC if its availableOriginally posted by theironhorse99 View Postwoohoo 18k on conti's. my personal bravery award goes to you.. get rid of em asap.
options for you : IRC stock size : pretty decent. i still run front IRC and i like it.
2: irc front + dunlop rear : better than conti. sticks like leach only once heated up else marginally better than conti but durable and reliable.
3: mrf front ( duke 200 ) + dunlop/michelin standard/radial
4: michelin : front + back ( standard - good ) ( radial -very good- expensive )
take your call. i am about to get my 3rd tyre in 26000 km... 1t set conti lasted 11-12k with 27 punctures.. second set : front - irc (still good for 5-7k) + rear dunlop ( squared) feels wobbly post 90 kmph.. cant take risk..
BTW , 27 punctures ?? , guess now your also eligible for the award :P
but your very close to Himalaya's :POriginally posted by theironhorse99 View Postthats quite some time.. man you guys are such lucky folks to have so many places around bengalore to go around,

oh yes... the conti's were fine for the first 10k and post that the trauma and horry story started.. every alternate day i was getting puncture fixed for i was always enroute office.
this continued for next 1000-1500 kms until i gave up one day. both new tyres. front and back and felt better. i was so pissed with the conti's that even after taking them out of the rim i kicked them and thrashed them with my boots... and my friend was wondering what anger am i taking out on them..
touch wood .. since then another 15k done. front IRC is holding well and rear dunlop just had one puncture from a 4 inch long nail. i dont count that to be a tyre's fault...
i finally did himalayas this june

now hunger for other places have started. will be hitting coorg/waynad this month end and will pass through bengaluru...

hopefully the transmission losses will reduce and you will get more power at the wheel.Originally posted by gopakumar s pillai View PostChanged sprocket & chain @ 16k km.Installed DID X-ring chain, cromoly steel drilled front sprocket from sprocket centre & JT rear sprocket.
and x-ring will last longer as well.
however most important question " how much ? " for us budget users compared to the OEM O-ring chain+ sprocket set is 1800

You are right bro, there is a significant difference noted in power delivery. got the whole set for $130.Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Post

What impressed me most was when i went abroad in march had disconnected the battery terminals, so after more than 6 months of the bike staying idle when i finally
reconnected the battery terminals in october the bike started in the very first attempt.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
thats the power of dry batteries.... also now that you have asked me...before my day long rides i intentionally turn on the headlight when the bike is off for a whole 30 mins sometimes just to drain the battery to low levels and then start riding. it will do the recharge cycle and keeps the battery healthy.Originally posted by gopakumar s pillai View PostYou are right bro, there is a significant difference noted in power delivery. got the whole set for $130.

130$ is around 8k. if you can pull 30k out of that set. its full VFM power mod and better riding experience."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Great....AFAIK complete charging and discharging of batteries will prolong its life, BTW my bikes original battery was problematic hence last year i changed it to SF SONIC.Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Postthats the power of dry batteries.... also now that you have asked me...before my day long rides i intentionally turn on the headlight when the bike is off for a whole 30 mins sometimes just to drain the battery to low levels and then start riding. it will do the recharge cycle and keeps the battery healthy.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Sorry for butting in but the technique you are using is actually not good for automobile batteries. unlike Deep cycle battery and LI battery in our cell phones: the batteries for cars and bikes are not designed to be under continuous load for an extended period of time. The car and bike batteries are designed to provide a high voltage to crank up the engine and along with the help of the alternator provide a steady charge when other electrical items are functioning. If you continue using the battery for operations you are currently doing, without keeping the engine running, it will result in damaging the lead plates in your battery other way reducing the overall life of it by 50%.Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Postthats the power of dry batteries.... also now that you have asked me...before my day long rides i intentionally turn on the headlight when the bike is off for a whole 30 mins sometimes just to drain the battery to low levels and then start riding. it will do the recharge cycle and keeps the battery healthy.

Deep discharge or deep cycle batteries are pre-dominantly used in applications like solar power, deep marine boats or inverters used in regular homes. They have a thicker lead plate to handle a lot more abuse than the car/bike batteries have.
You may alternatively check it online to confirm what i have said
:
1) Lead Acid battery and battery applications: Lead
2) Deep Cycle battery: Deep cycle battery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I agree that I might not be true . thanks for explaining the same. will research more on the same and never say sorry. I come here with a open mind and heart. to learn every day...Originally posted by shv18 View PostSorry for butting in but the technique you are using is actually not good for automobile batteries. unlike Deep cycle battery and LI battery in our cell phones: the batteries for cars and bikes are not designed to be under continuous load for an extended period of time. Re: Honda CBR 250R
Automotive Batteries are what is called as " Starter Batteries "..ie, meant for starting an engine. Hence they have higher CCA ..Cold Cranking Ampere...But a discharge of cell below 12 Volts definitely starts to cause Sulfation of Electrodes which makes them non-conductive. All Automotive Batteries must be at least float charged to ensure this...
Amaron have switched from SMF to AGM in their Batteries upto 9AH...
