woohoo 18k on conti's. my personal bravery award goes to you.. get rid of em asap.

options for you : IRC stock size : pretty decent. i still run front IRC and i like it.

2: irc front + dunlop rear : better than conti. sticks like leach only once heated up else marginally better than conti but durable and reliable.

3: mrf front ( duke 200 ) + dunlop/michelin standard/radial

4: michelin : front + back ( standard - good ) ( radial -very good- expensive )

take your call. i am about to get my 3rd tyre in 26000 km... 1t set conti lasted 11-12k with 27 punctures.. second set : front - irc (still good for 5-7k) + rear dunlop ( squared) feels wobbly post 90 kmph.. cant take risk..

Mine clocked close to 12k(with stock conti's) with 2 punchers in rear and none on front.
The puncher wale person was surprised when I said that it's 11k old. Good thing is that it lasts longer(really longer after seeing the earlier posts) but it's slips very bardly even in concrete, so am waiting very patiently for the tyres to worn out...

you have taken out more value out of the tyre than its cost.. my CBZ tyre never lasted more than 15k and with CBR the range further decreased... 12k and my tyre gets flat in center. also to notice no chicken stripes as i give them a good run time and again.

now this second set is done 14k and bike have already become wobbly at 90kmph and above. very slight but cant bear it. i like it to be perfect and its dangerous. i have a query to you guys. your bikes dont wobble ?? inspite of having the rear center strip flat..

I have ample tread in both the tyres, but still my handle bar wobbles like it going to fall down but only in speeds around 70. Otherthan that no wobbling observed so far.

The service center guys tried their best to reduce it but without luck. Their suggestion is to isolate the tyre issue before replacing/repairing the front fork.

Anyone around chennai knows any place where I can check wheel balancing and alignment? I have tried many places but no one does that for 2 wheeler alloys. Due to tight schedule I cannot even approach the service center for this issue.

i have similar issue.. the slight wobble starts lurking around 80ish and becomes more at dot 90 and then starts reducing again at 100.. at 110 the bike is again dead stable. but most of my commuting from home to work and back is around 70-100ish.. and i feel pissed every time i pass that range. i had same issue before as well . once the conti's were gone so was the issue. now it started again a few days back hence i assume its the tyre again.

i will get the wheel balance checked. there is no bend/misalignment in the forks or the rim. i also got the front suspension stiffened with heavy 20W oil with 250 ml each fork and rear is set to 3. i know a place in hyd for the work. also the SVC in hyd does it.

funny part is.. when i corner even at 70-80-90 there is no wobble. ideally that's when the Tyre edges which are relatively new are being used.

The permanent solution is to change the contigo's the problem goes away, and like theironhorse99 says it is the tyre that's causing the problem, well if you want a temporary fix, check the tyre pressure daily or weekly and always keep it 2 or 3 psi higher than the recommended range, you will find this problem to go away until the pressure starts to drop again.

This is what i do and i have this problem since the tyre started to slowly drop air pressure over a week after each refills.

Cheers

for the time being that will work. until you realize that you have been running a bumpy ride
but yes running a few psi higher solves the purpose... i move to michelin now. have already tried conti's and dunlop..
but the weight balance can also cause the same issue however it will be more of permanent than that of at particular speed.

Yes, the balance is fine, and this occurs only at this range of 60-80 , so i adjust the psi , this is what i am going to do until i have enough moolah to buy them michilins.

I'd run mine for another 2-3k and pick up the new rear . not the radials.. thats a heft 5500-5600. just the standard one for 3k i guess and let the IRC continue the front duty for another 5-6k.

Thanks Krishna,

I will definitely follow that for sure. am trying to get an manual air pump so that I can check it daily, but for now am sticking to checking during the fuel refills and that's every 2 weeks...

i'm waiting it out man.. I want the one with the best grip, if i get crazy enough i might even end up plonking the metzelers, having the 390 just makes that craving for metzelr just more and more.
But then itll set me back by 16k maybe. So again chances of that happening is less.
