Does anyone use frame sliders? given the pathetic condition of the traffic here in India, it seems nice to have protection in case of a crash. Can anyone provide details on sliders meant for cbr and the costs of such?

    Thanks
    Manan

edit- I still cannot find any chain cleaner and lubricator, I am a noob in this, can anyone mention or confirm that whether tvs product are up to the mark?

My ceeber got totaled yesterday, thanks to a stray dog who attempted to cross the highway in a dash. Right side fairing, RVM, front indicators, cowl, front brake lever, rear brake pedal, fork pipes and exhaust shield. I don't have a zero-dep insurance so guess the cost of the plastics will be borne by me.

This is the 1st time I am claiming insurance for any damage - Need some advice how to go about claiming insurance. Can someone help me out with the basics?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Just go to the SVC and tell them it's an accident case and you need to claim insurance. They usually have a dedicated person to handle such queries and he'll walk you through the process.

imported frame sliders cost as close as 6k and above.. will will fetch you almost all parts of both side fairing and related parts for the same amount.
i use locally made ones for 1500 bucks.. though lucky that never got a chance to test them but i am sure they wont be as good as r&g or yoshi sliders..

go to local auto part shop

            cheap : ask for p220 chain lube ( 80-100 bucks )
expensive and good : motul chain lube ( 300-400)

for cleaning use kerosene and let the chain dry completely before you apply lube.

sad to hear that bro.. hope you are in good health and wishes for your speedy recovery.
if you do not have zero dip but bike is under 6 months then plastic will be covered under insurance as well.
if more than 6 months but under insurance than plastics you will ideally get around 50% - 60% of the price.

ideally with the parts you mentioned.. keeping aside the forks.. the rest will be done in 4k odd..

for claiming insurance : take the vehicle to ASC. each one will have a dedicated agent for claiming insurance. if not available
then talk to the manager he will have contact for that person.

call him up. tell him you have dropped the bike at the asc and needs to be inspected before the repair begins. he will inspect the bike
and the SVC will give him and estimate for the total repair. once you pay for the total repair they generally hand over the cheque or acc transfer
            within 10-15 days.

Thanks for the detailed information, guys! It was actually my brother who was riding and he's completely fine except for a sore thumb which has still not healed.

It's heartening to know that the plastics would be covered under insurance within the 1st six months (just completed 5 months :P). Are you sure I don't need a FIR?

After witnessing yesterday's crash (drop at 85-90kph, slide on tarmac for ~20m), I am actually beginning to revere the CBR's build quality. The fairings actually held through the impact and remained intact, though badly bruised. The RVM had a foam padding inside with shatter-proof glass. The clip-on took some impact and got slightly bent. Overall, the bike was in a very rideable shape after the crash and I could have rode it all the way back to Bangalore, if the rear brake pedals weren't dislodged. Infact, I managed to fix the bent clip-on and the rear brakes and rode it to work today - it's still running perfectly without a rattle.

PS: Since you guys are already discussing about frame sliders, let me add my 2 cents - An observation from yday's crash - if you are getting local ones ~2000 bucks or less, they would be helpful in preventing a few bruises on the fairing, but I really don't find any point in going for the expensive ones that cost 6k and more, especially when I can get my fairing replaced at a lower cost!

unless it was a hit and run case .. or accident caused /collision with another vehicle then you'd need an fir for the fault is with the other person. you insurance agency will later take the re-imburement from that company for the losses incurred to you.

also make sure you get all the parts replaced at ones.. even if you find slightest of scratch or bent.. do not go for repair but a replacement. neways your next year premium will
be high. my second year costed me 3.5k for zero-dip again ... first year it was 3.3k odd.. but i used the insurance last year due to a notorious idiotic kid.. in which i had to pay only 74 rupees from my pocket.

so next year go for ICICI lom.. zero dip.. for now get it inspected and replace all parts necessary...
even when replacing fairing make sure the inner supports are intact and good.. replace if loose of minor crack.. later on you will face vibes and weird issues...

now that you have mentioned forks.. ask svc to also check the coneset , stem and the fork clamps as well..
                also front rim bent/play..

Do you guys know 0 - 60, 100, 140 Kmph timing of the CBR 250. Was searching online couldn't find genuine ones. I think reputed magazines would have covered these figures, have any one come across such article.

Reporting on my first 200k mark on odometer.

                        24/5/2013 covered 73.7 kilometers, with total 107, fuel was 500/68[bangalore price]=7.35 liters
                        25/5/2013 covered 85.5 kilometers, with total 193, fuel=oo
                        26/5/2013 covered 45.5 kilometers, with total 238, fuel=00
27/5/2013 covered 16.5 kilometers, with total 255, fuel 400/68=5.88 [after the trip was done.

                        So average is [73.7+85.5+45.5+16.5]/7.35= 221.2/7.35= 30.095

But to make sure, because I am breaking the engine in, my rpms are about 3.5 to 5.5.
Although today I forgot to vary the rpms and the engine was at a stale rpm for a long period of time , how would I know whether my pistons has been glazed or not?

I am currently running in the bike varying rps from 3 to 4.5, not paying so much attention to what speed I am going, till now there is no rattling sensation. although there are vibrations at the rpms which I just mentioned. Hi Manan,
I too have these gaps in fairings. There is a gap and play in the joint where fairing connects to front head too apart from the gap and play where tank meets black fairing.
The seat also doesn't seem to fit the tank properly (about a CM gap between seat and tank on right corner ) and of course gaps between seat and side fairings.
I pointed out this before delivery, but I was told it comes like that. Didn't check other CBR. So far no issues because of this for me.
Of course don't have anything to compare. I have accepted this in this CBR to live with

you wudn't need top-up till first 15k km atleast..

once at 15k.. dont top-up but replace the complete fluid..

if you got a non-abs then at first service get the fluid changed to DOT-4.

buy TVS girdling DOT 4.. 96 INR bottle and half of it will replace fluid for both the cylinders...
