  • Got my R15 sunset red

    Hello guys

Posting my first post in xbhp.....Just want to share and discuss few points regarding R15. As I was regularly in touch with this thread since I started thinking to buy R15 for feedback and I really really got lots of helpful tips here.

I got my R15 verson2.0 last weekend and I cant say how happy I am to having it. Really an awsome experience of ride. But I have few things to discuss and hope it will also get useful for others. I have ran 400 kms so far

    1. riding position : I heard many people that on beginning, rider will feel some wrist pain, back pain or neck pain. I have experienced wrist pain on my starting 100-150kms run. But as time goes all that complaint gone ! Now still on long run if i ride continuous 20-25 kims, wrist pain come into the picture...So is it natural or I am not taking proper riding position. Does any protective gear help on that? like gloves, handle cover or anything like that ?

    2. First 1000 kms : I have been instructed neither to cross 60km/ltr of speed nor to cross 5x rpm for fist 1000km run or first service. I am maintaining this routine, but made one mistake with that ! two days ago one of my friend asked for a test ride, I gave him and forgot to mention him regarding speed/acceleration limit . He accelerate the bike really fast and also touched 80-90 speed i guess. Well cant do more about it afterall its just my mistake to inform him not to do that As as a result I noticed that exhaust sound is minor changed(not as before) and I showed to yamaha showroom. That guy checked it up and told me not to make that mistake again. And this changed sound problem will be gone after 1st service.

So I am confused...is it really a serious problem ? will it impact any performance or engine issue ? or is there any solution to this minor changed exhaust sound ?

Attaching few pics of my bike

        WELCOME to the club.
        1. Wrist paint vanishes after you find a perfect seating position .. I dont think any protective cover will help it. Because it is the wrist, and not the hand. You will get used to it atleast in a 1000kms... So no worries....
        2. You can cross 60kmph., since the manual correctly says not to cross 5000rpm which is around 72kmph... Give a 10 minute break after a continuos 1 hour ride. Dont worry about going at 80 or 90kmph for a short period of time because occasional burstings cant cause any harm to the engine... Better change the engine oil now and then do the 1st service at 1k.

        Ride Safe...

I asked to the service guy at Yamaha showroom about oil change...but he says no need of it now and also not to worry about it till 1st service.so again chocked with confusion, should I replace the oil ? and which oil should be filled ? Practically it should not be the problem...But as its brand new bike so this minor effect is worrying me

It's the riding position that you have to get used to. Try to put less pressure on the wrist.
Don't put a death grip on the handlebars, and grab the fairing with your legs.

Usually engines nowadays are made with precision engineering, so there is like an extremely rare chance, that your engine might get screwed. The offbeat chance that your engine does get screwed is, if you take the engine right out of the factory and redline the mother out of it!

So the question to ask here is, did your friend redline it? and how many kms on the odo have you crossed?

Thanks for wishes [=D I was pretty confused with LE white edition and sunset red....But finally came up with sunset red and happy to choose it I have ride 400kms till now.

yes....I am trying to give rest to wrist during long rides by holding tank by legs...Its quite helpful but not for so long, just few minutes relax...Anyways let see on that after few more rides

Thats interesting point you have mentioned about redline. I am not sure about if my friend has crossed the redline or not....but will ask him. So does it matter if I keep riding a new bike 50-60 kms daily ? I am doing it so right now, coz I want to finish this 1000kms restriction as soon as possible. Or does it matter if I ride with pillon rider or not ?

its better to change the oil at the time of first service and use the recommended Semi Synthetic Yamalube oil.

Most of them says that. The recommended oil is Yamalube SS which is available at the svc itself. Replacing is your choice , but I recommend it. Just irritate the svc guy and change it, It s a maximum 10 mins job.

Always remember do not cross the rpm beyond 5k(till first service) as you are doing your running-in very fast. Give a 15-20 mins rest after every 30kms of riding.

                          • hey fellow mates...i just thought of putting up my experience with r15 v2...brought home a LE on 31/1/12 and its been 3 months and completed an odo of 7500 kms...
Before giving it for 3rd service i came to notice the strange vibration noise that occurs btwn an rpm range of 6k-7k. i mentioned tht to service eng but instead of resolving the prob nw the sound is there right down from 5k-7k rpm. for me it sounds like its from the timing chain but am confused whether it gets loosen up that fast?....i usually do long ride of 300kms in a month and cruise around a speed of 100-120 at highways..wil that make the cause for prob??. does anyone gt the same issue here?...looking forward for a helpful reply
Also the vibration from the front fairing has been considerably increased in time..what should i do to reduce it..plz help

Hai sir am Using R15 V1. As the V1 and V2 are true sports stance bike both have forward lean position. Because of that any one will get wrist pain in long run. Trust me Bro Gloves can eradicate the issue. I do lot of touring and rides. to eradicating the back pain in long rides you can use a backpack which is mildly heavy( say max 4Kgs).
                              Regards,

Yeah the sunset red was a wow factor for me as well Long rides shouldn't be a problem, just make sure to vary your rpm. Never keep it constant during the run-in period. I Know many fellow r15 owners, who have taken it for long rides to complete their run in. Changing engine oil frequently doesn't hurt, it's actually good idea while the engine is still young. This is the time when the engine is breaking in, that is piston is setting in the cylinder properly, so lot of metal particles are expected. Changing oils will get rid of that.
