aditya The maximum is 20-30mins on exact same speeds , but in india that becomes bit difficult , so key here is to keep bike's engine in complete zone of 0to 65kmph (5k rpm gives 65kmph i suppose) dont get too kind and stick to 40kmph at max , Slowly i mean slowly take her up to 60kmph and again back to driving speeds . Practice engine braking , it not only helps in faster running in but makes life of clutch and brakes longer due to reduced use , it will ensure better mileage too . Keep variating your speeds by -10kmph . Dont get too much caught on run in buddy , enjoy the ride most of bikes tolerate our bad run in . Yes i am in bhilai from 6-7yrs .

Check for Spark Plug Condition.
try installing a new spark plug.
My bike (odo@13k) was havin some (1Sec) delay when i press the ignition button. Changed it and issue resolved.
Stock NGK spark plug costs around 73-75 RS only

same speed\rpm for 2-3 mins max.
go up and down in the rpm range(ignore speed, just focus on rpm) in each gear.
don't just cruise in 6th gear only. each gears should be used for exploring 0 -5k rpm.

yep i do engine braking very frequently. as i said, it's kinda my tendency to release off the throttle a lot of the times instead of using the brakes. plus i am not neglecting downshifting as i have heard many people do most of the times on their bikes. but then, coming directly from a non-geared vehicle (scooty) to R15, i also have the tendency to pull in the clutch very often (because of the more-than-10yrs habit of pulling the left lever on scooty to use the rear brake). bad habit i know and am consciously trying to remove that tendency. will take a lot of time and practice and conscious mental effort to counter this tendency...and also, since allahabad is traffic-full and particularly the 3 kms that i have to travel to reach the highway is a narrow sub-rural kinda road in very outer allahabad with a lot of shops and people all the time, i actually have to use the clutch several times to navigate my bike through a bunch of bikes, cycles, people etc at very low speeds of 10kmph or so..i suppose my clutch plate will be burnt sooner (and so more frequent replacements of the plate) than most R15 owners. oh well.

it gives 70-72 kmph at 5000 RPM at 6th gear. been there 2-3 times already. and not necessarily always gone to 60kmph so slowly hehe . sometimes slowly, sometimes a bit revvy (no not too revvy yet). yes i am changing speeds very often, not just coz it's run-in and so i am supposed to, but more importantly because of the damn traffic. i have slightly crossed 5k rpm (like 5100 rpm or something) 3-4 times as well. only once deliberately, other times by mistake.

i grew up in bhilai. best town in india. clean and green enough most of the city. hardly much traffic in most of the city except places like powerhouse and the like. great roads truly suiting bikes of the R15 type.

yeah i dont do any more than 2-3 mins max at same rpm and speed, most of the times it's probably only for a minute or so...and even if let's say i forget to variate the RPMs, traffic ensures i end up variating it anyway hehe.. and yeah i go to 4.5-5k rpm in every gear, almost always.
thanks.

Yes otherwise it gives a nasty kat kat noise which damages gear and stresses engine , and most embarrassingly bike shuts off in middle of traffic

Practice makes a man perfect , habit will change slowly , no one becomes perfect overnight . So what you are doing is good and keep on driving with care .Since i live in Industrial area i too have drive 2kms of bad roads (Nandini road ) to touch highway . Most of the time i have to use first gear to pass the route , so we cant completely elude things.

i suppose my clutch plate will be burnt sooner (and so more frequent replacements of the plate) than most R15 owners. oh well.
Dude relax just enjoy the ride and use clutch to downshift or upshift or when necessary . Clutch at least lasts for 25k kms under moderate use .

so i am supposed to, but more importantly because of the damn traffic. i have slightly crossed 5k rpm (like 5100 rpm or something) 3-4 times as well. only once deliberately, other times by mistake.
Happens its india after all , going wee bit over 5k is okay , just dont do things like doing 7k-8k in 3rd gear

Nice to know as very few members are from CG , Those sector roads are very nice to drive on . If you get to visit bhilai let me know

have been through the kat-kat sound incidents as well a bunch of times hehe. sounds so painful, like someone's beating the bike :x . it's not like i downshift appropriately all the time though, only mostly. sometimes i have to tolerate a little kat-kat (not a lot, else i definitely downshift if i have not already done that) moments as well.

embarrassingly stalling the bike at low RPM all too often not only because i have still to get mentally used to the feel of the clutch at very low speeds but also because this is my first bike (never had a bike of my own until now, nor had anyone else's for everyday/frequent use) so i am anyway not used to error-freely starting up bikes and not stalling the engine. i have stalled several times everyone's bikes that i was given to ride at times, lol.

yeah that industrial area is the only messy place in bhilai in terms of roads haha...broken roads, utterly dusty, no trees or anything and typical indian city type traffic as well

yes sure. i stay at my home about a total of 40-50 days or so in a year. was in bhilai for 2 weeks just until 4 days ago

FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM

my 2 day old/72kms old R15 had a front brake problem today. somewhere during my ride, it started making a very uncomfortable sounding scratchy sound even when applied moderately and then after a few times even at slight application of the brake. the kind of sound that for instace one hears when forcibly rubbing a very clean and tightly gripped rubber on say a steel/metal surface or something. till about 50-55 kms this didnt happen (infact yesterday, the first day of my bike and distance wise the first 41kms of its life, i had to brake the front somewhat hard one time, albeit from a speed of only about 25-30kmph and even immediately after that no scratchy sound came). i ain't no expert at all, infact a total newbie, but i checked for any fluid leakage or whatever other abnormal thing possibly visible to the naked eye but couldn't see anything dodgy and suspicious. the sound sounds like something is forcibly and harshly rubbing against the discs.

i checked if some such sound was also coming from the rear, under slight to moderate braking as well as under pretty hard braking (from slow speed) and the rear brake gave no such sound but then towards the end of my ride today, just when i was almost reaching my apartment the rear also made a little of that sound under just a moderate braking.

another observation was that, only once or i think twice, after not using the front brake at all for several minutes (say about 4-5 mins), the sound went away at least under slight and moderate braking. but then, at other periods of not using the front brake at all for 4-5 mins, it continued to produce that sound.

certainly going to SVC tomorrow evening and hoping it's easily curable and no major problem and not something that can happen ever again, but till then, can any of you guys enlighten me why this is happening. i am worried why this happened in just the second day of riding the bike.

Hello Friends,

I think this is my First post in this thread.

Just have a question. I have not touched my R15 for the past 3 months. I would not be able to use it for another few months as i left it in my native.

Would that cause some damage ?

It is more than a year old now and i have not ridden it much.

What about the battery ? Is it still in the bike ? When you start it again for the first time after months, drain all the petrol , clean the fuel lines if possible and fill in with new petrol. I would suggest the same with coolant too, but Dont know how important is that. Clean Spark plug too.

No idea on when will i ride the bike again. Might be another 3 months. Yes, battery is still in the bike.

Rode it, Parked it, Locked it and forgot about it.

Truly speaking, i have no interest on sports bike. I am a pure commuter.

This bike was an unwanted/unasked gift/dowry.

I am now having thoughts of selling it or just return it.

Y do people peel the Yamaha stickers off when left in parking ?

Getting the brake pads cleaned and refitted may solve the problem.

Just have a question. I have not touched my R15 for the past 3 months. I would not be able to use it for another few months as i left it in my native.

Would that cause some damage ?

It is more than a year old now and i have not ridden it much.

Regards
If its already been 3 months that u started your bike, in all probabilities, the battery must have already drained out. When you want to start your bike next, get your battery externally charged and replace the existing petrol in the tank.

Could this be an issue of the battery? time to change? if yes any recommend brands or type of battery for it? thanks
Yes this is battery issue.
do check following things:
1) check the connections. Often electricians who makes changes they make loose connections. So a faulty connection will lead to faster battery drainage.
2) check the make of the battery. Often making such mods and getting ridden your bike for a year, battery drains out. Go for a change. Amaron Battery would be perfect.
3) Have you made any other mods?? like HIDs/Projectots. those consume too much of battery power. If you have made mods for lighting also then better change the battery to 5amp Amaron Battery.
4) Also while riding do keep a look on the yellow hazard indicator. if it glows oftenly then its time for you to check above three mentioned steps.

When you start it again for the first time after months, drain all the petrol , clean the fuel lines if possible and fill in with new petrol. I would suggest the same with coolant too, but Dont know how important is that. Clean Spark plug too.
Ivin you dont need to worry about the coolant.
All other suggestions should be followed, but Coolant and its reservoir should not be touched in these cases.
