Guys.. The SVC guys are adjusting the tappet noise in my vehicle right now. Apparently that was the cause of the engine roughness. Is it possible that at just 3k kms, tappet adjustment could be required? I mean normally people face it after 10-12 k kms...right?

just curious, was your engine rough (by which i assume you mean harsher than it's supposed to be or earlier used to be) in almost the whole range of RPMs in all gears ? or some smaller RPM window in some specific gear(s) ?

Go to SVC or check the connector. Maybe loose connection. If it didnt work, SVC will fix it. Nothing big,but please dont drive with red light. Allow it to cool and then drive again. Else it will damage the engine.

The roughness was present throughout the RPM range in all the gears( however much more in lower gears at low speeds)..

Shubham please explain what all happened to your bike and the conversation between you and the SVC people. it will be good if others know what you faced and why. since only i know about it when we spoke. others also can take a cue form this. Thanks.

and as i spoke to you, tappets can not just depend on the riding. its just unfortunate for some bikes that its not adjusted properly.

Yeah Bro. I thought ki I will wait for a day or so (just to be sure if everything has been rectified). Anyways, let me bring everyone upto speed on the whole thing…

                  Problems:
                  1) Roughness in the engine at all RPMs in all gears.
                  2) Handling issues (Bike used to sway a bit towards right on acceleration and it wasn’t handling potholes properly).
                  3) Dip in mileage
                  4) Rough Gear Shifts.

                  First Visit to Bangalore Wheels:
Well nothing great happened during this visit (for my third free service). They did normal servicing. They told me that during the last service the air filter wasn’t cleaned properly which might have caused dip in mileage. Improper Gear shifts were due to a dry chain, they lubed it and well the gear shifts weren’t rough anymore… And yeah for a day, roughness in the engine reduced.
However, from next day my bike was like a freaking tractor. I spoke to Ronnie and met him that evening. Even he agreed that engine is super rough and that something is wrong with the bike’s front forks.
After meeting him I was 100% sure that issues are there for sure; so I visited Bangalore Wheels again (I mailed Yamaha & few others to get the attention of Bangalore Wheels SVC.. even took Ronnie’s help for the same….fast forwarding that part)
                  Second Visit:
                  1) Engine roughness was identified as Tappet Noise and the same was rectified. I asked the mechanic as to how can one need tappet adjustment at just 3k kms. He told me that he had adjusted tappets for bikes with 1000 kms on odo as well and that at times these adjustments won’t be proper from factory itself( which is quite ok as they make a lot of vehicles per day and well let’s face it…nothing is 100% perfect).. In such a case, one might have to get those tappets adjusted before others. It’s a very normal process. Took him around 40 mins to do it.

                  2) Handling issue was identified as a damaged right fork (Outer Tube of the fork had scratches). However, the same was replaced under warranty and I was charged just for the fork oil. He also told me that at times these chintu mintu that the keep dealers keep, won’t handle the vehicle properly while moving it to their godown… which might result in a small bend inside the fork. Later with time, it may increase. Now the handling is at par

                  3) Well dip in mileage could also be coz of the tappets. Basically, if your engine goes rough and mileage decreases; then get the air filter cleaned and get the tappets adjusted. Having said that, I still need to check the mileage (I am assuming it would have improved.)

FYI: It used to be 38-41 before the engine got rough. Afterwards, it dipped to 32-33.

                  4) As I mentioned already, lube the chain periodically and your gear shifts won’t get rough( until and unless there is something wrong with the gear box)

And yeah .... special thanks to Ronnie for helping me out in all this

                    • Re: Idling

did reserve to reserve calculation for the first time and it appears i am getting a mileage of 33 kmpl...or at least this time i got that much FE.

i guess my very irregular riding style and schedule is the reason for the mileage figure being lower than most people..once or twice a week i go for a long and revvy ride where i rip my moto with hard braking, hard accelerations, (and even full throttling a lot whenever i am on the expressway) , and the other 5-6 days of the week i ride about 1-2 kms per day slowly just moving here and there in my campus...

of course, however, today's ripping ride was under quite windy conditions which is more than usual, and on top of that i touched 140 kmph and was above 130 kmph a lot of the times, so it must have sucked more fuel today to do all that than it uses to do all that under normal average winds.

in my previous two rough estimates (which weren't done exactly using reserve to reserve or anything), it came out to about 35-37 kmpl.

not really bothered much, just an observation..such a massive fun is priceless, particularly when i am not really riding it everyday.

i just wish the corners around here (and there are a lot of them and most of them so kickass) were not so blind (dense tree covering on both sides renders corner exits, and sometimes even mid-corners in case of a really tight corner, pretty much invisible while entering them) and less filled with people and animals around..not to forget the blind-ness of the corners also makes me take extra caution for any invisible incoming vehicles...so many awesome corners that i am unable to negotiate with a free mind

Mark my words!! You are going to spend on the engine very soon.. The way you drive, that too with less km clocked on odo, you are inviting trouble very soon

can anyone tell that what all tools did you get in your tool kit provided with the bike???
Igot only the screw driver, two spanners and a spark plug spanner..
I feel like I got ripped by the dealer...
because in my earlier bike which was the avenger 180, I got 4 spanners, 1 plier, 1spark plug spanner and 2 L shaped rod which where hexagonal radially..
they use to fit in the handlebar balancer and the exhaust cover bolts....

why ? (do you mean in reference to full throttling?) and what kind of trouble ?

it has had its first service. after first service, revving (that too like once or twice a week, not daily, and full throttle action is only when i take the expressway which is like once every 2 weeks or so typically) is allowed, no ?

went for a midnight ride yest. a place called Rasta cafe. felt amazing riding r15. 99% no vibes at all. i can bet a thousand bucks if anyone can ride the bike and say they felt vibes. took it all the way till 148kmph on NICE road. maintained around 100 on mysore road. the only minor hiccup was the problem with minor wobble. going to SVC to get it rectified on monday.

Yes, full throtling is not good at all... You can take her to that speeds with good throttle control ( giving time for revs to climb once you give throttle )instead of just opening the throttle. This done once in a week for few mins is perfecty ok. But crusing at those speeds for long time is big no no. IMO 6k RPM - 90kmph is the most efficient and stress free cruse speed. Max 7k, anything above is only for short time.
