yes, that qualifies as lugging the engine. The engine makes very little torque that low and also the fueling is noticeably erratic in that range.Originally posted by Harish Menon View PostMy usual route to work has a lot of traffic and yes I am a bit low on rpm when I face this issue...around 2.5k-3k rpm I guess ( Not sure about this because couldn't check it at the time)..
you need to be above 4k. if you are still running in make sure that you shift gears around 5k or higher.
most of the Indian bikes can be ridden comfortably in that range but not a high revving, high performance engine like the R15.Last edited by incipient; 03-12-2013, 10:00 PM.

The problem is my route to work has really heavy traffic and i never get to go above 3-4k rpm most of the times. So does this affect the engine performance in anyway in the long run?

TBH, heavy stop and go traffic is not a good way to run-in.Originally posted by Harish Menon View PostThe problem is my route to work has really heavy traffic and i never get to go above 3-4k rpm most of the times. So does this affect the engine performance in anyway in the long run?

By 125 km i think a major part of the running in (good piston ring sealing) has already been completed.
but hey i did my share of lugging too while running-in (i was a noob back then). performance-wise, my bike's a little bit short on the top end compared to a well run-in bike. and the way i ride now (pretty hard), oil consumption is a bit poor, i need to top up the oil every 750km or so.
if you really want good performance you will need to run-in differently. but don't worry even if you screw up the results aren't gonna be too bad. :-)Last edited by incipient; 03-12-2013, 11:59 PM.

very few guys have mods. Navneeth has daytona things for his bike, and anish has a aftermarket exhaust which looks like a yoshimura (both are bloody loud), karthik has few stickering done with colour changes. mine is a total 'virgin' bike though :P
