I've decided not to go to the svc for the 1st service due to various inputs from customers whose bike's have been turning worse since being given there People doubt that they aren't changing but topping up the engine oil, spraying water all over, not lubing the chain etc etc..!!
I would like to know what to do if i want to do things by myself... Guys, please do let me know what to Replace/Take care of after the first 1000kms!!! Would really appreciate your inputs!!!
The first service should be done in 600-700kms. Its a good practice.
Also, go and get it done at svc. The 'People' you refering to are those who go and leave their bike and only to take it back in the evening.
Stay there, ask the mech to change the oil in front of me. And same with the lube. don't know from where you got this idea.
Even then if you want to do it yourself, change the oil, oil filter, clean the air filter, clean n lube the chain. There isn't much to do.
    all the best.

    Ride safe and have fun.

Guess you're right!! Will try giving it to the svc because removing the fairings and cleaning the air filter seems like a bit tough task (me being 100% lazy) Anyways, thanks a ton for responding, mate and I'll'll see to it that i'm with the bike the whole time during the service and get the job done!

And also if you service it at home, then there'll be problems in claiming warranty in the future, if you ever have to.

finally managed to get some shorty levers, phew. Much better and comfortable than stock levers(I have small hands ).
cost 1.5k for the pair, finish looks good but only time will tell about the quality. Installation was very simple even for a newbie like me

I checked again today while installing the levers, there wasnt any shock. I guess that was a strange incident.

I didn't have wrist pain in the stock ones either, just that they were a bit hard to reach with my small fingers, these have much better reach and leverage. Now I can even brake with just one finger.

EDIT: I have a question, how often do we change the brake fluid, especially the one in the front?

you are supposed to change your brake fluid both front and rear on 20000km / 2yrs as per manual. With proper bleeding.

Bro. I would say avoid Yamaha Factory Shop, they will just change Engine Oil, clean oil filter, Air filter, injector, clean the chain and lub it and your bill will be around rs.1100. And they won't even allow you to stand near your bike while this process is on.

i m from PCMC, i give my bike at Kamal Yamaha.
Now if you stay near city, then there is a good Service Center in Tilak Road can't remember the name

a few days ago while lubing my bike's chain, i noticed a bit of rust on it (just about 4000 kms old). I dont know (as in, didn't notice) if it has been there for long or just in the last few hundred kms. is that alright ? i understand that a bit of rusting is (probably?) a normal thing, but isn't merely 3500-4000 kms a bit early for that ? i lube my chain regularly enough (800kms or so earlier but in the last couple of months every 500 kms or so)

Normal. It's a 'O' ring chain which seals the lubricant into the rollers and keeps the elements out. However, the rust shows that your chain is running dry. Rust can only form if your chain is dry and it's exposed to moisture.

well relieved to know it's normal. i suspect the rusting probably started a few months ago (september) during rainy (thus, humid) times when i hadn't lubed my chain for about 1000 kms. since then i have been very regular about it but that time laziness and lack of riding meant i was a bit carefree about it.
