Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
How do you define that clutch plates need replacement and ideally after how many kms. the clutch plates should be changed..?? I think it is between 5-6k rpm (closer to 6k).Originally posted by PallavZ View PostHey guys at what revs in 6th gear your bike runs at 80kmph..I think that a need a clutch plates replacement.!

At about 5500rpm my bike reaches 80kph. Clutch plates usually last more than 40-50k kms if used correctly.Originally posted by PallavZ View PostHey guys at what revs in 6th gear your bike runs at 80kmph..I think that the clutch plate needs replacement.!

Sent from my C5303 using xBhp Connect mobile appturns out I had very less free play in the clutch which was causing problems.the guy at the svc always sets the clutch in this manner. Whenever I told him to give the clutch some free play he told that it is not good to have free play. Will not go by words anymore and I'll have to look for a better svc.!.Originally posted by slevynhawk View PostDamn..:banghead::banghead:

Do not expect svc mechs to do everything properly. It's your bike, its your responsibility too.Originally posted by PallavZ View Postturns out I had very less free play in the clutch which was causing problems.the guy at the svc always sets the clutch in this manner. No matter how good the svc is, always;
Make sure you have enough engine oil
correct chain slack
rear tyre alignment
Enough brake pad left
Tyre air pressure
Chain lubrication
Accelerator and clutch cable free play etc.
Make sure you replace air filter at each 10k kms, fork oil replacement at 12k kms, change oil filter at every oil change. Do all these and you'll have a bike that runs like it's supposed to.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
thanks for the checking suggestions.Originally posted by mehuel View PostThere are somethings you can do to check. If you have a main service stand just park the bike on it and check for steering. let the bike rest on rear tyre so the front tyre is in the air and free to move. hold the forks with straight handle pointing ahead and move the forks to and fro, and check the play. it should not move. if it does, there is too much play. than move handle right to left and check ease of motion. if its to stiff the steering is too tight. I suspect it to be too tight.
You can also align the suspension. Did you bike all in the recent times? While riding do you feel the handle bar tilted toward one direction.
and when did you have the suspension oil changed.
another thing you can check is the disk plate, if the problem is caused only while braking.
1- yeah there seems to be a little play in the forks when moved to and fro, not a lot but not zero either which is clearly a possible problem...this was there long ago too around the time i had to change the conesets and ball racers 3000 kms ago.. at that time the play was quite a lot while this time it's very little.
2- the handlebar's ease of motion is very light and loose, as in very smooth and frictionless (a bit too smooth)...this is something i'd noticed many times earlier too but always chucked it away as something that's probably normal..anyway, didnt feel anything to be stiff..
3- no the handlebar doesnt feel tilted toward any direction while riding...
4- suspension oil same as fork oil i assume ? if yes, then yes it's time to change the fork oils anyway because so far it hasnt been changed..not even when the whole front was disassembled 3000 kms ago because svc mechs said it was too early to change fork oil at just 9000kms (current odo at 12500).
5- disk plate seems fine..the problem isn't caused only while braking..in fact what i described earlier about braking happens quite rarely anyways.Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 08-04-2015, 03:10 AM.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hey guys. Its's been long since i have actively posted anything on the forum. Just a quick recap, I am from Chennai and had owned an RTR 160 which i had to part with.
I was looking for a proper upgrade and had my eyes set on RC200 which had a cracker of an engine and chassis. Sadly that didn't happen because my family was hell bent on getting a Bike within 1 Lakh. I had my priorities and my wish-list ready which made me narrow down the bike more easily.
I had always loved THE 15. So this was a no-brainer, i started looking up OLX and Quickr for a Used R15 as money was a constraint. Narrowed down on a Gorgeous Blue 15. So there she is in all her glory.
She had run 10766 Kms when i got the keys, pretty less for a 2012
. With all the service done as per schedule.
- Engine Smoke for busted rings/Valves - Check,
- Fork rebound and Steering Play - Check,
- Brake pads - Check
- Battery - Could not check.
- Coolant Level - Could not check.
I have the highest respect for many people on Xbhp. I have certain genuine queries if someone could care to explain it would be great
- The R15 engine is a proper screamer, the engine comes into its own past 7k rpm. However i am just curious as to how Yamaha pulled this off as the engine is a Long stroke
. I am just wondering how good the head must be flowing then. Please correct me if i am wrong. - There is considerable amount of rust inside the the tank cap area. The bike had been sitting for 40 odd days as per the previous owner. I am just worried if it would eat away the tank. Any suggestions on this.
- Also the bike pulls cleanly till the limiter but i always have this in the back of my mind that the bike had been idle for a long time and would it have caused any damage to the Fuel Pump or Injector.
Thanks in advance. Looking forward for great times with her

none damage caused to fuel pump and injector unless the ex-owner ran this bike pretty much all the time near reserve. get it comprehensively serviced, including cleansing of fuel pump and then notice the difference.
just wondering how much did u get it for ? 2012 model with 10k+ on ODO. lookwise it's very neat gotta admit.

Front pads around 800 IIRC not sure about the rear.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hi Guys,
My R15 V2.0 had problems with its Fork frequently. Tight movements and free play. Stock Racer Bearings wore out after 20K kms and had to replace it twice. I stumbled upon some DIYs that mentioned Taper Roller Bearings are good upgrade for regular cup & cone bearings. Also Taper Roller Bearings can withstand heavy loads more than the stock bearings. They don't wear easily and they provide the most smoothest movement possible while rolling under immense pressure. These bearings are found in heavy vehicles like Multi axle trucks to transfer the axle weight onto the wheel. They are also found in Car axles. So I followed some DIYs and decided to replace my stock bearings.
I has to disassembled the fork section, to measure the bearings. The exact measurements of R15 v2.0 racer cone is 25x48x12mm (Top bearing) and 30x48x15mm (Bottom bearing). Went it search for replacement bearings locally, to my disappointment I was not able to get them. All leading manufacturers like SKF, Koyo, FAG nobody manufactures Taper Roller bearings to my required spec. I had no option but to find them some how, because stock bearings were costly at Rs. 2,500 which I can't rely on. Finally found the required bearings on Amazon.co.uk delivering to India. Bough them from Pyramid Parts (Amazon.co.uk) on 24th July and got it delivered on 6th August. Although I wasn't still able to find exact matching for the top bearing online. The one I purchased is 1mm taller than the actual fitment i.e., 25x48x13mm. I hope it won't be a problem.
Actual cost of the parts Rs. 2000/- + Shipping Rs.800/- = Rs.2800/-
Attaching pictures of the bearings, will update on the performance post installation this weekend.
