Hey guys I was wondering whether changing the O2 sensor to a windband O2 sensor will make it a true fully closed loop. Can this be done?

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
From what I have researched your wideband sensor wouldn't last long on a single cylinder, due to the heat from the exhaust, however if you try you would need an ecu, such as mega squirt.Originally posted by mehuel View PostNope, just the sensor won't do. You would need programmable ECU.

Why do you want to change it to a wideband sensor? Don't think it's possible without changing the ecuOriginally posted by PallavZ View PostHey guys I was wondering whether changing the O2 sensor to a windband O2 sensor will make it a true fully closed loop. Can this be done?

I was thinking about upgrading with performance parts. Now without a good AFR just adding parts won't give me performance. So I wanted a wide and O2 sensor.!
by the way does anyone know a good fuel control chip.if the O2 cannot be changed.!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
I think you're confused, if you upgrade with performance parts, you can use a wideband O2 sensor, you however need something to read that along with tp and rpms to be able to tune the fuel map only. This kit is around 300 usd. I was lucky that I had borrowed one from a friend to tune my motor last year, I done around 8 runs, with 2 laptops attached to me, as my friends O2 reader didn't have hook up for the tp and rpms. Lm2 is the unit you might want to look at.Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!

R15 v2 is 3and half years old (sep2011) and these pulsars ktm are 3 year old (jan2012) ,so your time dimension theory doesn't hold water.Originally posted by Gurudatt View PostYes the R15 may not have lived up to your standards.. It has been around for 7 years now.. When it arrived it was the best available package.. The so called powerful machines came 2-3 years ago?? If one is against comparison between companies, neither should you compare the bikes from different times.. If Yamaha brings up a bike now, I am damn well sure it is going to be better than all the opponents.. Technology gets updated with time.. For the power machines to come here and burn the roads it was the R15 that started the revolution.. I am just glad that R15 even though older than most bikes today still holds a strong place in comparison
Thank you

It is put into comparison due to its cost in the same ballpark.

Exactly my point, technology gets cheaper with time.. One can get a better package for the same cost as time passes by..Originally posted by Anuj_Gupta View PostIt is put into comparison due to its cost in the same ballpark.
V1 is around since 2008, V2 is just got aesthetic improvement and updated ecu.. Performance remains almost same.. Power output did not increase since you are very specific about power.

Preparing R15 v2 for leh- ladakh
I know this thread is trending much till now however I have some queries that experienced riders can resolve.
1. Tyres- do I really need to change them? Its stock and 11000km old with only one puncture ( no stunting or burnouts yet) at rear.if yes please suggest preferable tyres. I heard putting off road tyres will take away fun of riding on smooth termac ( Srinagar - leh).
2.sprocket- do I need to change it to get lower end torque?
3.fairing- do I need to remove lower fairing and rear tyre hugger to save from mud?
4.Saddles- I am using claw mini 55 litre however carrying fuel can is still big task in front of me. Suggestions required.
Other tips for preparing bike are welcome!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hi guys
Recently changed my pipe to a full system yoshimura.
Had it fixed at a local workshop and I find that they did not really do a good job.
In the instruction manual, it says that a new exhaust gasket should be used. The shop didn't comply and I ended up getting a paper flapping sound when the bike is moving.
put aside 3 hours due to my inexperience and took things in my own hands.

This is how it looks with the pipe.

Remove side and bottom fairing to access the engine area.

That's where the exhaust gasket is located.

Gotta use something flat to pry it out. I used a Philips screw driver.

Used gasket.

Brand new yamaha original exhaust gasket ($3 SGD)

Dismantled pipe, inserted midpipe db killer as my girlfriend complains about the sound each time she gets on the bike 😂😂.

Completed in 2 hours. Could be faster but the exhaust was hard to take apart. Probably due to the metal expanding. I used chain lube to lubricate the joints and separate the parts.Last edited by alwaysusing; 05-06-2015, 05:13 PM.

Another example of - if you want things to be done right, do it yourself.
It might cost extra time but it's definitely worth it.Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Why are people comparing a 150cc bike to a 200cc bike again? Both the bikes are optimized to squeeze out the max horses for the given input. A 150cc bike will never make the power a 200cc bike will do. They will, but at the cost of engine life, efficiency, the list goes on. BTW, the company bajaj is a cheapster (sorry) because I dont understand their chinese market flooding strategy of making a bike in every segment with the same name. there's a 135cc, 150cc, 180cc, 200cc, 220cc. Thats how chinese companies work. and not to mention the KTMs, where all bikes look exactly the same. I own a yamaha, and if Bajaj made a good bike, I'd walk right past the yamaha and get it. I'm not a yamaha fan boy. My next bike wont be a yamaha. But there's a certain amount of care taken towards customer satisfaction. Think about the number of revisions KTM bikes have gotten since release. It's an endless list. The thing that made me wonder most, was the introduction of slipper clutch to the bike within 3 months of its release. Yes the japanese are conservative, but their products are sorted out. Given a choice, i'd blindly go for a japanese make (not specifically a yamaha) than a european brand, any day.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
this statement is true as long as both the bikes belong to the same categories of bikesOriginally posted by hatebreeder View PostA 150cc bike will never make the power a 200cc bike will do. They will, but at the cost of engine life, efficiency, the list goes on.
(categories as in sportbikes, dirtbikes, adventure bikes, cruisers, tourers etc.).Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 05-06-2015, 11:31 PM.
