  • Re: KTM 200 Duke

I am Ashutosh Agarwal Bhubaneswar,Odisha. I own a Ktm 200DUKE 2012 model. I have already ran the bike for 25000kms. Now my problem is that everytime i switch on the ignition the meter shuts down only a black line appears and automatically it resets to zero( TRIP 1,TRIP 2,TIME) . If i turn off the key and again switch it back to on the ignition switch after waiting for few minute then it starts. I have been facing this problem for the last 15 days and around some 1900kms. can anybody plz help me in sorting out the problem.

    Thanks in advance.

How bad is it for the engine when you shift gears after hitting red light rpm mark ?
When on highways i tend to shift gears only after a blink of red light where in i Feel the max power output .

          Kicks in late!

The dukes are a bit more in your face kind of bikes, but even here there are differences.
The 200 is like tequila. It jolts your senses! Just that there aren't too may shots to have. 1 down(60kmph), 2 down (100kmph) , 3 down(130kmph) and you are done. Time to pub hop! You would dig every shot, believe me, but in the end it's a bit like steamy foreplay followed by a bit of meh sex. But the best damn foreplay to have

The 390 on the other hand is like Red Rum. It's coarse, it's strong and it's brutal.A bit of grown up affair, this. You gulp down 3 pegs and then think some more before tapping the bar tender on the shoulder!

Your choice of poison depends on the day of the week. On weekdays one may bother one or two shots and feel happy. On weekends you need to get drunk and throw up.
Lest the mods frown upon blabber filling up precious kilobytes, here it's in simple words: Duke 200 for everyday rides and Duke 390 for long rides and weekend blasts.

This is the most beautiful thing i've read today.

shifting around the 7000rpm often is not going to be bad per se (if that's what you mean by 'blink of red light') . It is set to blink at 7500rpm and stay on solid at 10500rpm.
These rpm settings can be changed by anyone via the console. I set mine to blink at 7k rpm and stay solid at 10k rpm. its called the rpm1 & rpm2, refer owners manual (if possible download the eu version of manual, desi version has a couple of errors)
you should be careful to not hit 10000rpm frequently at every gear change but shifting around 7500rpm is ok.

Check battery connections, fuses (unplug, inspect, clean and put em back in). Or replace the console fuse (check on the fuse box or owners manual to spot the correct fuse corresponding to the console)
For more advanced diagnostics head to the svc.. you might need to get the console wiring checked.

Tyre change was long due. So finally changed the front tyre to pirelli sport deamon at 20.5kms. Initial feedback is better than stock mrf. Gonna change back one to michelin 150 soon.

How can I avoid or save myself from speed wobbles? Do bar end weights help?

Only a steering damper can help.

Which is the most recommended tankbag for the duke ? I am looking for something which can accommodate a DLSR and a few clothes.
                      Thanks in advance guys

Yea thanks. a steering damper would be the only thing that would help. But are they even available in Calcutta? Aren't they really expensive here? And Are there universal steering dampers?

check out viaterra as ajay pointed out. the two of us use other viaterra products on our duke and rc. pretty good quality stuff with easy mounting and removal steps.
do check out their website and videos.

The Viaterra Fly is good but the Rynox Optimus S looks to be good option as well especially since the capacity is 30 litres?
My only apprehension is that the suction may not be strong enough when sudden and heavy front brakes are applied. Read somewhere that it does come off in rare cases. Do we have additional straps or something other then the suction caps to secure it to the tank/frame better?
This seems to be out of stock with most online retailers.

Also approximately how much can be squeezed in the Viaterra Fly after a DSLR has already gone in. Can a Jeans/one or two T shirts and some other stuff(Deo etc) can go in as well?

Also what's the view on the Dirtsacs?

I know Motozone in Pune install dampers. I doubt you'd find many places in Kolkata

yes suction mounts might be easier to mount but their stickiness is a gamble.
the viaterra fly can hold a cam and a pair of clothes and basic toiletries.
