  • I had booked the cbr150r more than a month ago and no response. if I had got the delivery by now I would never have moved to ktm. anyway ktm has all the facilities that the cbr150r lacks. pass light. build quality. it has the looks too. and it is a superb performer on par with the cbr250r for the price of cbr150r. so opted for it. test drove it. suited me well. and I hope the mileage is 30+ as mentioned in the ownership thread.

Need advice from owners of cbr 150/250 and pros, as i am interested in buying one of these bikes for city commuting and for highway rides once or twice in a month maximum. To make you people understand more my state of mind and expectations, here is little history about my riding experience in past one year.

Well, i am back to basics actually as i booked cbr250r when it was launched, waited for a month or so for delivery. After initial bad reports, canceled it and bought Hyosung GT-650 R. Because of worst experience with its handling and its service center, sold it in 5 months. I test ride both cbr's today and what i felt is:

        - CBR 150 is too under powered but looks better than CBR 250 in terms of colors and styling. Mileage is too good.( I ride/drive just 20 kms maximum under good enough traffic on normal working days).
        - CBR 250 is better in power but looks disproportionate, and colors are really not good. Mileage is low.
        - P.S: I dont like any other bike around except these two.

        What i need actually:
A good looking fully faired bike, with ok kinda power that can beat/compete other bikes when i am in mood of riding wild, and having a mileage close to 40-45 kmpl.

What you people suggest to me?
And all the views i expressed about any bike, are solely mine and kindly do not attack me for those.
Do you believe in corner carving or you ride in straight line. 250 is great for straight. 150 is better for corner carving. less powerful but light weight bikes are always more fun on tightly winding roads. where you plan to take them? mileage will not be different by more than 10-15 kmpl when ridden similarly.

Hi bro,i dont want to change ur decision but please reconsider ur decision about duke as the build quality of bajaj is decreasing iam saying this because i have came across a thread on teambhp that one of their member's brand new ktm dukes engine sized and there was a oil leak which was fixed only 99%,and i only wanted to bring out this case so that u could reconsider ur decision and no offence ment to any duke users and lovers ,duke is indeed a great bike and if u still want to go with it please consider these factors and ask the owners about its pros and cons and please do a PDI twice before the delivery of the bike to avoid these problems and note that iam not supporting any bikes here.

Yes, even I read the same thread. AND the seized engine was replaced under warranty without even bothering the customer. He was only informed afterwards that the issue has been taken care of and was given a bill of a princely sum of Rs.100 which was also waived off when he made a hue and cry about not paying anything. There is another engine seize I know of, it was on Aargee's CBR250R. Do you wish to know his story too? Please refer his thread too. Its just that the CBR Story happens to be much longer and painful.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

A generic statement as highlighted above in bold only serves to create confusion. These are one off complaints that plague almost every manufacturer including the Japanese Four. What is important is how the same was resolved and in how much time.

Any manufacturer launches products in the market after thousands of kilometers and hundreds of hours of testing. No manufacturer wishes to tarnish their name and reputation by launching sub-standard products; Our main stream manufacturers would never feature in that list (if it existed anyway).
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

A big deal is made of regarding absence of pass light and engine kill switch on the cbr150r. I have ridden bikes for the last 15 years without a passlight in all kinds of conditions and I dont think I am gonna need one any day. Similarly, at traffic lights, i just switch off the ignition and switch it back on before the light turns green. Works just fine. I dont need an engine kill switch. Saying cbr is a bad bike because it lacks these is like saying pulsars are world class because it has backlit switches. Who needs backlit switches on a motorbike?

                • I think we have again succumbed to the eternal temptation to compare
                  duke with cbr 150..

That in my opinion is undue as both are great bikes that have different
                  approach to fun...

Duke is short geared and designed to give quick response and rapid acceleration
whereas cbr demands high revs before it starts to get fun..

Both are unique and it would be futile to compare..

Both my Dad and I test rode the duke and maintain to this day
                  its an amazing machine

The only reason the duke is available at 1.3L is because it is
developed and manufactured by bajaj here in India. Had this
come from KTM Austria it would have much costlier probably
                      even higher than cbr 250r.

But, then you have accept and live with the things that come
with a Bajaj bike both the good and the bad

Let me clear few things during & after this process...
                        - Honda NEVER denied a word
                        - They didn't charge anything extra
                        - They didn't even played "B" of blame game; just shut tight & simply replaced the ENTIRE engine block instead of simply cylinder piston kit
                        - It happened exactly after 1st service on almost 3rd day (delivery day, Friday evening 100 Kms, Saturday 496 odd Kms, Sunday 500+ Kms) & Monday it goes for service
                        - No other issues such as leaking fork, bent alloys, coolant dripping, exhaust changing color, (even after 2234x odd Kms) noted till date in a span of 11 months

@antz.bin , i did nt mention aargee's problem because it was only limited up to engine sizure and not leaking fork which started on the third day and coolent dripping and other issues. And as u r mod can u please tell me how to multi quote.thanks

@catchdebanjan,i am not comparing the two bikes but asking joel_sherly to reconsider over his decision ,that's all.
                          sorry mods for OTs

That was really a terrible experience with a brand new bike. Glad to see that you got it rectified, hope you are having nice experience with your CBR now !

Oh!!! Its a pure VFM; I've taken the bike from 80 Kms to Srilanka to 80 Kms to Pakistan border in scorching heat & pouring rain, rode through forests, desert, dry & scenic national highways, state highways, villages, unpaved roads, hills, mountains, twisties & straights crossed 7 states; otherwise its impossible to do 2234x Km in nearly 11 months of ownership

Duke I don't know, ideally 2K on ODO, this should not happen as much as for CBR; mine seem to be more of manufacturing defect on the piston's coating (call it DIASIL or whatever terms) as one side got smeared off completely; where in ideally in case of seizure both the sides usually gets the scratches.

PS - My 4th attempt to edit & update this post!!!
