  • Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences

    Hello to all members!!!

I am new to this thread, but not new to riding Pulsar 200NS... The urgent need to resolve an issue with my bike brought me right here. Thus, this is a call for your help:

    Given:
    1. Bajaj Pulsar 200NS (2013)
    2. 14,400km
    3. I am 2nd owner and purchased this bike with 6,700km odo readings
    4. Overall state of the bike is close to excellent: no issues and smooth performance.

Problem (started to happen 2-3 weeks ago):

Trying to accelerate on 5th and 6th gear would result in normal rev growth up to 6,000RPM than goes sudden drop in power from 6,000 to 7,000RPM (either not accelerating at all and stays something like 7,000RPM even with the full throttle or very slowly passes 7,000RPM) and good acceleration again from 7,000RPM and up to shift blink light.

The rest of the gears show the same power loss between 6 and 7,000RPM but engine is usually able to pass this stage and accelerate good beyond. When idling with the throttle grip, RPM show the same behavior: quick RPM growth to 6,000 than slower growth between 6 and 7,000 and quick growth from 7 to 12.

Seems like as if motor looses its power between 6,000 - 7,000RPM.

What has already been checked at the local official service (yes, there is a local service center in Ukraine for Bajaj and they have already given up with this case):

    Physics:
    1. Changed air and fuel filters (no luck)
    2. Checked and cleaned carburater - excellent condition (no luck)
    3. Changed fuel (different brands) (no luck)
    4. Adjusted (different tries) mixture screw (no luck)
    5. Readjusted intake and exhaust valve clearance (was good, no luck)
    6. Ckecked compression ratio - 13ATM at full throttle opening - excellent, like in a new bike (no luck)

    Electrical:
    1. Checked old (good condition) and replaced to new spark plugs (no luck, switched back to older ones)
    2. Exchanged CDI unit to new one (no luck) (switched back)
    3. Exchanged ingintion coils to new one (no luck) (switched back)
    4. Exchanged throttle sensor on carburater (no luck) (switched back)
    5. Measured alternator hall sensor resistance readings - ok. (no luck)

I was trying riding after each change. No luck. No result. Engine gives a good and smooth acceleration 1 time out of 10. The rest - either stops accelerating between 6-7,000RPM at all or very slowly passes those values an gives an excellent acceleration past them.

I don't really think that this might be caused by the clutch wear. In the case of clutch wear RPM should grow even if the bike does not gain speed. Moreover, there should be some twitches and pulls while accelerating. Nothing like this.
+ the fact that quick throttle handle idling also shows odometer reading slow down between 6-7,000RPM
+ the fact that bike accererates excellently in case if it passed 7,000RPM.
So, doesn't seem to be clutch wear problem. Proove me wrong...

So, this is my current struggle. Me and official service have runned out of ideas... They have requested Bajaj factory (made and sent a video) to inspect this case. Still waiting for their answers...'

    Any thoughts, people????
    Thank you

Exchange the throttle slider assembly (slider, diaphragm, needle: comes out as one piece) inside the carburetor from another bike and let us see what happens

Someone please tell me what's wrong with my bike. I'm stuck here. Please reply fast
Btw changed oil, air filter sparkplugs battery, cleaned carburettor day before yesterday

before knowing the complete situation, everyone here can 'guess' the problem, until someone has faced it already.
to troubleshoot, we need more details.
does it happen at certain speed or certain rpm?
do you feel radiator fan working?
does the ride hiccups before stopping?
if you immediately try starting the bike. do you feel more load on starter motor?

            when you are home,
            1. please start bike in parked condition, keep rpm of 4k and see if radiator fan kicks in, and how much time it takes before stopping.
            2. do one more round while keeping rpm at 6k.

            post us the result.

to me, suspected things are radiator fan/relay, scratched block piston, lubrication failure.
            may be something else too.

I faced the same situation. I dont remember the exact problem. It was related to some coils( ignition coil something like that?). Thats whats the svc told me. Sparkplugs were not getting any current. First they changed the cdi unit and relay but same problem existed and then they changed this coil and everything got solved.

As far as i know there is a pipe for air sucking beneath the tank when that pipe gets chocked(common problem while fitting the petrol tank)your bike will not start until there is a scope of pipe to suck the air in. So just tell the SVC guy to remove the tank and look for the pipe if it is getting chocked.

Hey guys.. m having a bit of issue here. Had got caught in a landslide in Sumdo and a large rock had hit the engine part/starter motor part with no visible damage. Had an initial start up issue. Since then, when starting up the bike, the starter motor is creating a strange horn-like sound till its gets hot enough.

Kms done on that starter motor is around 1L+. Had replaced it when it was around 1.40L kms. its now at 2.73L kms.

The sound just doesn't happen when I go to the svc as the bike gets hot by the time I reach the svc. Any help is appreciable!!!! Thanks!!!

open the starter motor and look for carbon and winding wear.
or may be hitting stone caused damage to outer shell which is touching rotating motor.

cant be sure until you open it up.

since you have crossed many kms, it would be great if you could let all of us know regarding your parts replacement over the period of time. just wanted to know average life span of wear and tear parts.

Now that I got out of the 2.73 shock, let me say what I think.

We all know metal expands by heating. Maybe fraction of a millimeter, but that makes the difference in some cases. Your starter motor has taken a hit, no doubt, even if it's not visible. When cold, clearance of parts is lesser than when hot. If damaged a bit, they can rub. That explains the horn sound when cold. Metal to metal rubbing I guess. The bush at the end (the bulge seen) may have taken a hit. When the starter gets warmed up by engine heat, clearance increases and rubbing disappears. This is what I think. As mentioned in the post above, open it up and give a thorough checkup. Cheers.
