The other day I just got punked by a Karizma R (with a pillion -I was solo). Felt that the bike just had no midrange to overtake the 12 year old fossil.
I know that these ego battles are worth nothing, but its saddening to see a new 1 lac bike get beaten by the T-rex.
I mean i've heard people say that the NS has a low lower and midrange torque and is more about higher revs but then post 120 the bike starts facing wind resistance!! So it seems that it doesnt cut the deal in either situations. I could have bought a smoother, cheaper, and more reliable Karizma instead!!
PS: I have done a lot of dragging and racing a few years ago so its not my riding style or gear shifting that did me in.
    DISAPPOINTED!!

Dont be disappointed. Could be that the ZMA-R might have been modified. You can never be too sure these days.

I'm not doubting your dragging skills and neither am I encouraging you to more such drags (because its your call to do so or not)...but why do you think the mid-range torque ditched you? If you were in a drag then you should've been concerned about the high-end torque because that's where you shift your gears and thats where you should've been riding. Correct me if Im wrong as you have been a part of drag races before.
But may be you were dragging when the wind current was against you and this could have helped the Karizma which has a bit fairing.
Bottom line: Many factors determine the outcome. Just a drag race and you're dissapointed!!?!...chuck your bike as you won't be satisfied with anything because there is always a BETTER waiting to impale the BEST.

Does that sound like an unlubricated hinge(or a brrrr sound)? Because I'm getting such a sound from the rear of my bike when i'm at lower speeds. Increase it above 25 and the sound is no more. Did try rotating the wheel by tilting the bike on the stand, and then the only sound i get is a light rubbing from the discs. If i roll of my bike in neutral with engine killed the sound is not there. Only present when the engine is running. Had this issue from the 3rd day. Still confused. Anyone else with the same issue? And seniors please give me some possible reasons for this...

More flickable than the FZ & equally stable like the Apache at single digit speeds.
I haven't ridden the Duke extensively so can't say about that.

I have a solution... SELL the 200NS and get a jeemaar... (just kidding)

Can you tell me at what rpms you were shifting gears and what was the top speed? (a question from a person who hasnt even participated in a drag race even once).

yes the sound you said is like that only... But mine does not vanish as speed rises... The sound is increasing day by day and i can now feel the disc hitting on the handle and lever... @myth: yeah man tasted first blood... its addictive... This engine is a purely highway engine... I cant hear even hear the engine spinning at 100kmph... It cruises so lazyly. While overtaking at rajarhat and bypass, i dont even downshift...i just twist it in 6th and cruise past... The engine is happy once past 3k rpm and by 3.5k rpm its butter smooth... And just as u cross 7k, there is a sudden burst of power which sometimes scares me, and the exhaust note at 7k and more scares the people around... The low end torque is just pathetic...but u wont feel it when u are riding on normal roads..it will even pull from 12kmph in 3rd gear... U will feel the low torque just heavily when you are stuck in a big pothole or you want to climb on a high footpath or climbing very very steep inclines. Simply pathetic... Shibadip was with me when it happened once and yesterday my rear tyre got stuck at maddox square and i had to spin the engine at 7k and a fair bit of clutch slippage to get out where as a stunner who had the same fate got out of it just so easily at one go without even spinning the engine hard... My earlier tvs flame 125 had better low end torque seriously.... Sick.. Btw i am now getting 33-34kmpl with lot of right hand action but not ripping... @a5h15h: lol same happened with a friend of mine... He was on his karizma and he smoked a ns and r15 on a highway...

I will tell you why a zmr was easily able to overtake the ns because they "twist the throttle". On ns, the acceleration when you really twist the throttle and get to higher rpms and shifting at around 7000 rpm, the bike feels "scarily fast".

Once you decide to make some noise, the NS is a totally different machine.

I was also embarrassed when a poser on an R15 was taunting me and I did not want to rev hard because of the traffic(I was not stupid as he was), and people were commenting that this was a waste bike. I refrained from showing off my SKILLS just because I didn't want to end up in an ambulance.

                  HAPPY VIJAYA DASHAMI TO EVERYONE.

Exactly! I've smoked a duke once, gotten smoked by the same duke defeated P220 twice and a modified r15 2.0 once. Even I was disappointed on losing to duke. But slowly I realised one loss can't decide everything. Win / loss depends on a variety of factors.

Well, now any of these posts don't mean everyone should keep trying harder and harder to beat xxx bike and by bad luck end up in a hospital or worse. There are a lot more stuff about NS that should be cherished. Yes, there have been multitude number of times when I've heard people talk shit. But we know how excellent the 200 NS is.

HAPPY VIJAYADASHAMI TO YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE ON THIS FORUM!

Do not compare between two dis-similar engines. The ZMA-R has a much linear torque throughout the RPM range than the P200NS. It's first 4 gears are meant for city traffic, and the fifth is meant for cruising on highways....you can start moving from 2nd gear also, and the engine produces only17bhp from a 223 cc engine, and has 18.35nm torque at 6,000 RPM.So the pull in acceleration is superior . The bike is primarily a relaxed tourer, and designed for reliability. Remember it is a HONDA engine.
The HONDA CRF 230 whose engine is doing duty in the ZMA-R is still manufactured and sold throughout the world, and is one of the most popular beginners Dirt bike...the CRF weighs only 110 Kgs against the ZMA-R 150 Kgs.
A proper home work would have made you understand the differences.
Street racing is to be avoided, and does not prove anything.....

Yep thats right. Although I havn't stuck in pothole yet but on an incline when stuck in a jam it shows its weakness. Have to downshift to 2nd (sometimes 1st) gear to get moving. But it always makes it up on a freeway.

Shifting gears regularly in traffic is good. It is a good habit. You will be using the bike to the fullest and will be useful in an emergency. It also extends the clutch plates life.
