      • Hey guys! I've been visiting this thread for a long time now, even before getting my bike.
My first post here and definitely not the last.
Got my yellow beast 2 weeks back! Here's a pic:

I'm not writing any reviews because some of you have done a gr8 job at it and I can't top that
Anyways, I'm facing a small problem. Here's the scenario:

It's morning and I'm starting the engine for the first time. I push the starter and it runs for 5 seconds and then dies. I push again and it idles fine.
But the moment I apply the throttle, the engine dies!
This happens for a couple of times. Finally I'm able to rev by applying the throttle very slowly. In the beginning even this doesn't work.
Another thing that's most probably related to this:
When the bike is idling on the first start of the day, and I apply choke, the engine dies. This also is rectified after a couple of tries.

        Any idea what's causing this?
There are no issues after the bike has run for a while and the engine has heated up. It idles at 1.7k after heating up.

        Any help appreciated!

          welcome to the group

i had more or les similar problems

i couldnt start my bike on choke the engine simply died and if the engine was hot choke kicked in fine

solution: pull choke press the thumb starter with a little throttle and choke will run fine

seems you have a tuning issue

get your carb tuned probably at the ASC with the CO% emission machine for between 1.5to less than 2% CO

keep the hot idle at 1.5K rpm

the new engine is tight that is the bore and piston are tightly fit with less clearance so when engine gets heated they run perfectly......and takes a little more of fuel and hence a little more idle to keep running and this will be solved soon after u run some good kilometers on the odo

this was explained to me by PSR sir

just keep riding and enjoy...its a new bike and its a machine..issues keep coming and going..some get resolved on their own..for others there is ASC

            Thanks! I plan to stay
I did the first service at the ASC and they said they tuned the carb then. I'll get it checked at another ASC. Also will get the suspension checked. It's too stiff at the moment. Not a good thing for riding on the roads here in Kerala..

Have you taken the bike for long rides? How was your experience?

            • haha..no long rides..this is my first bike and graduated from an activa and longest i have travelled in a day is about 30-40 kms :P

eve a funnier thing is got my firsts service at 196 on the odo...been super busy with exams...

ask them to tune the carb on the CO machine in front of you...

suspension by default is on second softest and even i find it hard but its just made that way and the suspension is good for cornering...

              • completed one month with my NS and i am happy with the ride but it got some issues i dont know its cause its need a servicing now or what

1.NS feels out of control sometimes dont know why its feels unstable i am new rider but when i ride my friends bikes it feels really calm whys that ? is it cause its new
2.the vibs has been increased alot and now i can feel them all over even on tank
3.in middle for 2 days my ride acted wired its stops in middle anytime not cause of my clutch mistakes even with the clutch fully press its stopped and it happened quit a few times(but now its fine dont know how)
                4.cold starts
5.at speed of 80 felt a bit scratchy feeling from engine...i just got out from traffic was the bike heated ??

and one more thing really annoyed with the service center guys they just try to delay things up....i didnt got my seat cover and handle grips yet they can't ever service my bike have to travel like 10km now cause they ant authorized for NS servicing then why r they even selling the bike when they got nothing in hand

I've been busy too. The week after I got my beast I had to go to Pune for an interview at.. guess where? Bajaj
I don't think they'll let me go inside the workshop to oversee the work. Had gone to ASC yesterday to get the tappet clearing fixed but they made me watch from behind a glass window! I'll try though..

since its winter the oil most probably work fine but bajaj knows their engine well than us and if they have recommended 20w50..please stick to it
no harm done...just change the oil now...
The potential for harm is like albyjose says - a moment's depletion of oil film inside a new engine would be very bad . With an oil with a lower second number in the grade(i.e 40 instead of the recommended 50) , the oil film can break momentarily at high operating engine temp or high revs and allow metal parts or bearings to contact and run without ANY oil protection . But as said , if you ride sedately , as you are required to do during run-in anyways and during winter and not for very long distances continuously , you may get away with it . After around 2000kms on this oil , drop it and fill with the default Bajaj's 20w50 , Mak 20w50 mineral , Motul 3000 4T 15w50 mineral , HP racer4 15w50 , gulf pride 20w50 mineral , elf etc whatever comes cheaply . Personally I would do that immediately, just because the potential for real harm would be always there at the back of my mind ... and the cost of an engine overhaul . But that's because I buy only cheap oils and have never cared much to throw them away early .
The second thing that worries me is that with the light oil in it (10w40) , the motor would rev up very fassst very quickly and you'd love that so much that you're likely to do just that .

Finally !! I hate those warranties cause it doesn't let me do all that I want to with MY bike, never bought those warranty extensions either . But don't let them know that yourself, they are dumb enough to buy it .

Tight new parts and a bit rich tuned carb from factory . The first will go as the machine's tolerances build up with riding more and the second is necessary to keep cool a new engine that heats up fast and high . Let it be , it'll be gone by itself by first service time .
                    Nice ride !

I got your point. But the thing is, first service is over. Odo is at 807kms. So you are sayin I just have to make it leaner?

Get it checked for the balance issue, many people have faced something similar & they got it fixed too.
Vibes is one thing that may not be possible to ditch from it completed, but u never know, some mite lose it to a great extent. For now, I guess the Proper servicing of the bike should resolve most of ur issues. Do make sure ur in front & keeping a check on it while it's serviced. Make a list if u have to to ensure proper & all things to be done while being serviced.
In the city, the heating can be expected for logical & technically sound reasons. But for ur own satisfaction, do a query on it when at svc center.
What ever u do, get it serviced from the place where they do take in NS for it. Svc guys of bajaj mostly aren't very reliable on the 1st place, getting it done from the ones not properly trained for it mite make it worse. Even if u gotta go 20km for that.

                            • Had a very exciting day. I was returning home in the evening, a guy in a bolero wanted to race with me(I was on the highway), I politely declined, the guy started sounding horn annoyingly behind me and intimidating me, I tried to flee, but he wouldn't give up, so I thought why not give him the scare of his life, so, I went fast and took a detour into a single road(which I sometimes ride in when I am in the mood for offroading), the road looks fine for some good 10 km, and then comes the fun part. This guy was so stupid, he was even following me on this road. I saw some tractors some distance, did a little offroading and overtook them, and this guy was stuck behind the tractor for about 20 min and only 3 km(how frustrating it must have been for him), then he charged again, and there is this very uncomfortable corner which I loved, I went in fast at about 80, quickly applied the brakes dropped to 35 and took the corner, exited and the road was beautiful, but for the fool, the corner was too tight and he fell in to the canal by the side of a field. I stopped went back to help, but the guy was calling me names, I showed him the finger and went away. He will have to wait a long time to anyone to show up, since no phone signals either
