  • Today while on my way back from Goergaon, I noticed a very subtle hiss noise (with helmet on) coming from my front disc break whenever I was breaking. There was a lot of Andheri traffic and I did brake a lot for 8-10 km. Literally a lot. But I still don't think that would be the problem coz however, as soon as I was 2-3 km away from place, I noticed the noise wasn't there anymore. Anyone with the same issue here? Should I visit SVC or is it normal? Help needed. :/

Does it affecting braking or riding?
Check mileage. If the discs are bend, riding with that friction is not a good thing.

Also I had read someone wrote that Yamalube is actually manufactued by Motul for yamaha, way back in this thread.. Can somebody please confirm this??
Valvoline 20W50 is a good option as well.. See you can fetch it.. You can probably get the same rating in SHELL as well..(I've used Valvoline but never SHell)..

Check out FZ16 forums. It is said that current lot of Yamalube is the crappiest oil you can get for your bike.I think motol is no longer making yamalube, not sure!

The oil level should be in the middle of low & high...this looks alright..though looks like needs a little more oil or maybe this level is shown if bike is slant a bit! Check again without the central stand, just hold the bike straight.

Most of the SVCs allow you to be there when your bike is being serviced.
@Samshalu: I too had too face favoritism towards other customers due to which my service was getting delayed. I had to shout at the floor manager to get things going. Next time please try to think about others who may be waiting for hours and still getting over with the whole thing because of the so-called VIP treatment.

This could be the brake pads setting-in (just like the engine). I too was facing a buzzing/hissing sound but @psr sir said that this sound is normal as the brake pads too need some running-in. So no worries at all.
A bent disc would make a kich kic kind of noise and would be pretty loud.

AFAIK Oil should be checked when the bike is hot...ie ride for 3-4 kms and then check the oil level. if u check when the bike is cold ,oil would always be less than the marking...........

Ya, it looks OK. it's between the Min and Max level.

But have a look of the oil colour closely. It already looks Black and muddy. Change it in that case.

AFAIK, oil level must be checked when the engine is cold.
When hot/running, the oil is supposed to be moving all over the engine assembley, and it won't give the correct level.

                        • What Shibadip said is totally correct... Engine Oil level has to be checked only when the engine is cold.. As soon as the engine is run oil will flow up till the head and thereafter you try to read the engine oil level it will definitely be lesser..

Okies...but what i have found is when engine is cold, oil is like half the level and when engine is run for few kms, oil expands to the full level.....

The hissing noise from the Disc Brake is common at the initial stage when the bike is NEW. It will go away after about 200 or less kms. If you have the noise after this then it means you have dust on the pads ,either brake dust or from the road. Try cleaning by directing water hose on the pads. The water from hose is to be directed on the pads seen on either side of disc....Please note after water wash the brake will be poor and will become ok ,after riding a few Kms and applying front brake.
