There is something more to this than just insufficient quantity of oil being filled in. What you are saying is during second service oil removed was 650 ml whereas the amount of oil should have been 2.2 liters with the oil filter. That's like saying someone put only 1 liter of oil in your bike of which 250 ml was consumed/ evaporated. This is highly unlikely. The most common mistake that I can think of is to fill only 2 litres instead of 2.2 as the oil is available in units of 1 liter. The deficit of 200 ml while not good for the long term health of your bike, is not critically fatal in the immediate terms.

Over here I would also put at least some of the responsibility on the second service centre. Alarm bells should have rung and a deeper investigation should have been carried out the moment it was noticed that only 650 ml of oil was drained out. Instead they just filled the requisite quantity of oil and sent you on your way.

What I am trying to say is that the bearing failure is just a symptom, the cause may not be filling insufficient amount of oil. The cause may still be inside the engine. It needs to be stripped down and every component needs to be examined before moving any further.

After a long Sabbath finally took the plunge and got my Ninja delivered to me last week. Have done 350 odds kms so far and it has been pure awesome , the JAPS surely know what they are doing.

However a minor irritant has been distracting me. I hear a clicking noise every time the bike is in-between 3.5 – 4k RPM both when stationary and in motion. Any ideas what the sound could be?

Haven’t taken her above 5k RPM so can’t comment if the noise comes in at higher RPM’s as well or not,but from the looks of it ,it’s between the aforementioned RPM range.

Would appreciate your inputs on this.

I have that click noise too. But I don't think there is anything to worry about it. You would also notice a buzz sound as u go into the higher rpm ranges. that's just the radiator fan kicking in due to heat. You may also experience roughness in the engine sound down the road around 800+ kms. that's fine again and just means u r nearing an oil change at first service.

Thanks Meijiwolf For your feedback .Any clue what could be causing it though?
At first I thought it was eco mode kicking in but it seems it’s not the case.

            Might be the shim noise.
There are shims under the bucket valve arrangement which may vibrate at particular RPMs and make some noise as if a coin vibrates when u put on the floor.

Does 300 have 'ECO' light/mode ALA 650? This will give you better mileage when ride it under certain rpm range.

Has anyone installed a double horn on the ninja. I am not satisfied with the sound.

Hey guys, the people here who have owned this baby Ninja for long like 10-20k kms, could anyone give a breif review of the bike like the maintainance cost of the bike over a period of time, Fe in city and on highways, low end power at less than 6k rpm. Basically a review if its to be used for touring.

                      Thanks in advance guyss!!

                        Hey Sid,

I am using my ninja 300 for touring. My bike is 8 months old and i have clocked around 9500 km on it. Bike is an absolute delight on to ride on the highways. No vibrations , well planted ( had a panic breaking incident and bike did not leave its line) , top notch built quality. However been said that , Seat is very hard with minimum cushioning and suspension is stiff. Negotiating a bad patch or broken road is no less than punishment on this bike.

Coming to FE , It depends on how you ride. I am sharing my FE figures

                        Cruising at highway speeds ( 90-110 km/h) = 31 kmpl
Red Line each gear = 25kmpl
Avg FE with a mix of both spirited ride and cruising = 27-28 kmpl

                        Hope this clears your doubt.

                        Cheers,

Thanx for the brief review buddy. Currently I am using CBR250R for daily commute as well as touring. It returns a Fe of 32-34 kmpl between 80-120 kmph. Somehow got pissed of the poor Honda svc. Though I understand N300 from CBR250 is not really a upgrade, I am looking for peace of mind.
Since you have under 10k on your odo, I guess you won't be aware of cost of spares such as chainset etc. Also could you tell me whats the normal servicing cost like oil changes etc.

I upgraded to ninja 300 from a cbr 250 and trust me it is an upgrade , upgrade in terms of quality , free revving twin cyl. Peace of mind and reliability are a few things with no substitute. I havent had a single issue till now.

Quality does not come cheap so the spare parts are a little expensive. Chainset and sprocket will cost upwards of 15K. A normal service (with oil change) will cost around 4 - 4.5 K ( Engine oil capacity is 2.2 L and SVC force you to buy 3L oil). However engine oil drain period is 12000 km or 1 yr and service interval is 6 months.

People with more frequent usage and with more frequency in riding kms involved, the ownership cost when it comes to tyres, chain sprockets and oil change will be more of a load than a normal moderately used ninja. That is a big source of worry.

I agree with Krishna. Longetivity of the spares depends on the type and frequency of use. I use CBR for daily commute to office apart from weekend rides and tours. Have covered 20,800 kms in 21 months. I can do so becoz I know maintainance is not expensive. But with N300, I will have to buy an alternate vehicle for commuting to office and other errands, using Ninja for the weekends and tours.
