if you guys are familiar with wheelies, you'll realize that there's no idea as after so and so rpm, wack the throttle and stuff like that.
you need to attain a certain speed, make sure that the throttle is completely gelled in well and then wack it up hard and move 2-3 inches behind, what actually happens is that the front wheel lifts off...

now this very same thing to be done at a higher rpm and a higher gear is what gixxer is telling you to do...
try a lower gear (2nd for example), keep it at cruising speed meant for that particular gear, rise the throttle to a mm SLOWLY first when the bike tries to revv due to that mm of increment, wack it up, you'll realize a jerk, do this once or twice and you'll get that RHYTHM, now just put it on third gear and try, similarly put it on 4th gear and try.

its like counter steering, you'll have to experience it to know how it works, go ahead and give it a try..

the compression of the fiero will be 150 psi, and that thumb over the knob wont help, your compression gauge doesn't give you the figure of 150 all of a sudden, it rises to 100 in first kick, rises to 125 or so in the second kick and then reaches 150 in the third or the forth kick.
    ================================================== ===

In that case, I must say the compression is not too bad in my bike. I tried it a little bit this morning, will be doing more as I perfect this move. About the compression test:- Suppose we kick the bike with the compresion gauge more than four kicks... like say 7 - 8 kicks ... will the figure go up to 160 or 170 or something? I think taking that test is still a good idea. Not all the mechs have a compresion tester do they?

About decarbonizing:- is it possible to apply some sort of liquid formula and decarbonize an engine? I mean decarbonize and free up the entire system from carbon deposits.

A small query: - I kick my bike several times without the ignition on in the morning .... also pressing the clutch a few times ... then turn the ignition on, press the choke and kick to start. I guess this is a standard practice. What I have noticed lately is that the bike starts and the sound is sort of not very stable... I mean it is not the steady Fiero beat. It is quite cold in Kathmandu and lately I have noticed that there is some smoke bellowing from the exhaust ... starts with a little bit of white smoke ... I goes away when the engine is warmed up. I am worried about the rocky start of the bike. Carb tune? or some other issue?

When doing the compression test with a compression gauge, the bike's throttle should be opened to the max when kicking the bike.Only then will you get the maximum compression reading.

Don't put any additives, try asking psr about a simple method to increase the compression.

Try and lean out the A/F ratio a bit and see if things improve.

no, the compression won't increase over 150, if you keep kicking more and more, the compression needle will hover over 150 psi itself, that's why its said that the bike is running the compression of 150..

why do you kick with the ignition key off ??
use the choke only when needed, white smoke indicates unburnt fuel as far as i know...
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

the best way to start ur bike is,with the ign off use the kick lever upto a point where you will feel resistance, switch on the ign,at that point depress the kick lever with good force and voila

I will check the carb and see that the A/F ratio is lowered a bit ... more air less fuel.
psr bro please let us know the secrets of how to raise the compression.

I did not do that before, but I read that when you kick with the ignition off, say 5-6 times, you free up some carbon deposits and lubricate your engine as the engine oil is pumped up. When you press the clutch lever, you also tend to free up the clutch plates that are soaked in the engine oil and may have a tendency to stick together so you could get harder gear shifts + you also increase the life of your clutch plates.

So if there is unburnt fuel in the exhaust, I guess Gixxer is right about leaning out the A/F.

That's a new approach for me ... thanks! will try that out.

            • Guys, I have a good mind to go for an Apache RTR 180... do you think that is a good bike? what about reliability? ... I believe it is a derivative of the Fiero as the engine looks similar. I want your honest opinions ... just thinking about it, I might go for it or I might just upgrade the Fiero next year as Nano has done.

dude my friend bought the rtr 180 black colour on 3rd dec!!! its a sexy bike yaar!! its still in the run-in period, so we could mot rip the bike to its fullest .. but i have got to say this... its a mean machine!! in the 1st gear even with the slightest throttle application, it almost does a wheelie!! you can feel the pull in almost every gear!! riding position is very sporty, very compact. it has a short turning radius than our f2 bikes, so takin U turns are not at all a problem!! and the thing that i loved the most, is its firing sound. no other bike comes close to this one...

yep its a derivative of the fiero, and yes its a good bike. The problem is its not as comfy as the fiero as its made for the tracks. The front forks are hard,u mite feel the entire pressure at your palms which could be a bit painful otherwise its a very good package.i was considering the rtr but me being a bit overweight looked very out of proportionate, moreover i wanted a bike with DC lighting .

PS- its got the best exhaust note

You can go for the RTR180 with your eyes closed. But if you want to, you can make your fiero into an RTR180 without any issues.

i think km run is more than 1Lakh as my speedo met is not working i am not sure about it.
Speedo meter is not working since last 3 years. :-(
speedo meter assembly in the front Drum is not there, the mechanic had to removed it as it used to make lot of sound.

there is a authorised TVS service center in Vishrantwadi(Pratik nagar). get your bike checked by them. there is a mechanic called Amin. he is kinda a bit tall guy. get the bike checked from him only and no other mech.
