Guys, does increasing the idling speed have and effect on the bike mileage and throttle response? I increased the idling speed about 4 - 5 turns and althought it sounded ok in the morning at cold start, the throttle response did not feel good and the bike was quite loud by the time I rode about 7-8 kms. The engine was pretty hot too.

Common mistake-idling speed should be adjusted on a sufficiently warm engine. Ride the bike for about 2-3 kms.atleast&then adjust it to around 1100 RPM. Since this is a carburetted bike, the idling speed will go up by a couple of hundred RPMs after a speed run in anycase.Originally posted by chief ashman View PostGuys, does increasing the idling speed have and effect on the bike mileage and throttle response? Thanks Sarvajit, ... I realized the mistake and tuned it back after the ride. I haven't tested it by riding ... but the engine noise and RPM subsided and I left it in park. Will see to it this evening and make the necessary adjustments.

Ride was good overall, very chilled outOriginally posted by gixxer_junkie_m View Post@Sarvajit
How was your ride back home buddy? and what did your friend say about the spares you bought?
-it was the coldest day in Bangalore in years. My hands were frozen to the hilt inspite of gloves&I had to stop every now&then&put my hand on the silencer to warm them.
I cruised at around 100 to extract more mileage&the R15 returned around 43kmpl.
Made a mistake of starting late from Bangy so reached the highway by 12:30&home by 9 p.m. Had a tinted visor for my lid so had to stop to clean it once or twice once it got dark.
My friend is yet to collect the spares from me. I have bought riding stuff from Cramster for others too.
Bike needs a wash (bugs&dirt all around)&polish. Rear tyre is leaking air around 2psi per day, so need to remove&refit after cleaning. No rim bends, will get the old punctures checked once too, but mostly its a rim sealing issue due to dust.
Oh yeah I got caught by a cop near Bangalore International Airport for overspeeding-I thought the limit was 80, but then he showed me another board with 2 wheeler 60 written on it. Similar to when I jumped a signal unknowingly on Sunday, bribed him with 50 bucks&left.
I'm waiting for the time when I can ride to Bangalore on my old Fiero. Even if it takes longer due to low cruising speed, it'll be more adventuruous. Good music is a must though.Last edited by Sarvajit; 12-09-2010, 03:48 PM.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

We should have gone on a long ride, then you would have known what a bigger size bore does to a bike's performanceOriginally posted by Sarvajit View PostRide was good overall, very chilled out

Bigger bore size means a drop in initial pick up,in comparison to a longer stroke 200cc bike that is.But the ease with which the bike revs and makes power higher up the rev range is something ,which makes you fall in love with short stroke bigger bore config engines !!!!
Anyway next time around when you are here, hopefully my bike will have a bigger carb.Life begins, once you hit the power band !!

ideal way to set the idling is-first warm up the engine, with the headlights on set the idling as per required.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostCommon mistake-idling speed should be adjusted on a sufficiently warm engine. should i worry ?
i last changed the oil hardly 300 kms ago !!Giving a lot to a fiero.

I'd suggest check your oil levels,There is a possibility that you mite have overfilled.I didn't notice smoke in the entire day after that, what you can do is,open up the spark plug and see,if the plug is dry,no need to worry,if its wet "HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM"Originally posted by NANOtechnology View Posti met velociraptor today, got his steed DCied, as we both were riding he noticed blue smoke from my silencer at a turn, i stopped and checked later, it was gone, its the first time ever in my bike AFAIK.

Do the standard procedures buddy.Check the plug, then put the palm near the end pipe and ask someone to rev the bike.Originally posted by NANOtechnology View Posti met velociraptor today, got his steed DCied, as we both were riding he noticed blue smoke from my silencer at a turn, i stopped and checked later, it was gone, its the first time ever in my bike AFAIK.

My guess is it's just a rich carb state and nothing serious.

Btw why i had mentioned because the colour of smoke was blue, though i didnt notice it the rest of the day,if it was a A/F rich issue, the smoke should have been black?
