My friend rode my gixxer too bad..with a pillion.. Hit a pothole.. And the rear suspension was damaged.. He rode it too badly... Like 60kmph while coming down a road.. It was repaired under warranty.. Took 1 month though..

OK, guys. I bought my first bike which is a gixxer. I'm actually learning to drive properly in this bike only. So far I am facing few problem which has already been discussed her
          1. Gear shifting is real hard
          2. When coming to a stop at a good speed, let's say to a red signal, my gear indicator on the display disappears. Everything else will be displayed and gear won't change. I have to struggle a bit with the gear to get the display show the gear as well as for the bike to fall into a gear. I noticed it happens mostly when I'm coming to a halt from fifth. I'll go fourth then third and then in second when the bike comes to a halt, the display goes and the bike won't be in any gear. If I struggle to get the gear up it will fall into third and work again
          3. Sometimes it's real hard to fall into first gear especially if i had come to halt in second and once my gear went into neutral while the bike was in movement.
          4. Night time ride is very difficult with the current headlight

I am a noob when it comes to all this and I read through about 200pages in this thread to get some basic ideas. I need all of yours expertise on the above issues.

Regarding the headlights, i found that Osram and Philips are preferred. Philips is available as a single piece here Philips 12342XVPB1 H4 12V 60/55W X-treme Vision Plus Car Headlight Bulb: Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike where as OSRAM is a pair here Osram Night Breaker UNLIMITED H4 60/55W (double): Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike
Which brand is most preferred and are those genuine? If I change to any one of these, should I be careful about anything so that they don't burn out or damage the electricals?

My first service is coming up next week .What all should I be aware of?should I ask them to change the bulb or do it after the service?

The gear shifting issue that you are experiencing has been faced by me too.. All you need is to lube the gears.. I faced it twice and after lubricating its gone.. But hard shifting was still there.. So i took it to a local mechanic and he lubed the clutch wire and the gears too.. I recommend you to show a good local mechanic.. Sometimes the svc is dumb.. The mechanic i showed said that the clutch wire has some problem.. Then he opened and lubed it.. Did some other adjustments.. I must say the gear shifts are really smooth now..

As for your headlight issue.. Adjust the headlamp focus and see.. If still you feel its not upto your satisfaction upgrade the bulb.. But remember to put according to your battery power.. And don't put anything that needs cutting in the headlamp section.. I have seen some people facing water leakage in the headlamp section after putting them..

            Cheers.. Enjoy your beast!

Thanks for the reply. Those are H4 bulbs and from what i read it should be plug and play. But im yet to find a proper comparison between those two and did you also face the second issue i mentioned?

                  Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, and this is my first post.

I am planning to buy dual tone gixxer. But I have few doubts regarding the purchase. Kindly enlighten me with your thoughts.

                  1. I read a lot about narrow pillion seat and its discomfort in gixxers. Is it that annoying? (By the way I just got married, and I will be roaming with wife during weekends. But only city commute, not long drives. So married guys, if any, please share your thoughts on this)
                  2. I showed gixxer to my wife. She liked the looks but dint like the tall pillion seat.Is there any way to bring it down a bit OR make the saddle height a little taller so that she wont feel that she is sitting taller?
                  3. I am from kovilambakkam chennai. OMS suzuki, madipakkam or Jain suzuki, pallavaram? Which is good for purchase as well as after sale service?

Kindly guide me. Based on your inputs, I will try to convince my wife and family to buy gixxer. Else, I will turn my head towards Hornet 160r(but I am sold to gixxer already!!) Thanks in advance.

Yes the pillion seat is high and is not for sitting with two legs on one side.. I sometimes take my mom out and she says that she slips forward.. Which i even feel.. But if your wife sits with two legs on both sides then it will be comfortable for her too.. And you can lower the suspension too.. Default is 3.. You can set it to 2...

Go for a newly launched avenger. As you have just married, avenger would be a proper bike. And about the seat, unfortunately you cannot adjust the height of pillion seat on Gixxer. Take a test ride of avenger and Gixxer with your wife and then decide.

                        Avenger doesn't have tubeless tyres.. [emoji20] [emoji21]

                            Hello,

It's a good choice for your first bike. Now let me give you my suggestions on your problems as I have spent some quality time with the bike and my mechanic at the service station.

                            1. Do not worry about hard gear shifts. It will be smoother with more km and proper gear shifting. Since you're a beginner it might be really hard but do not worry.

                            2. I have faced false indications on gear shift indicators. That was when I never blipped while downshifting. While upshifting though, I never had any problems.

Now it's highly imperative that you practice blipping the throttle at the beginning stage itself. It will actually reduce hard shifts. It will prevent any jerk while you downshift. Before you do that, I would like to suggest you that whenever you're coming down to neutral at a signal, go through every lower gear. It is easy for us to hold the clutch in, slowdown completely and shift all the way to first or neutral without releasing the clutch every time. This was my main observation whenever the gear shift indicator stopped working. But when I shifted through every gear (meaning that I would gradually slow down and let the clutch out whenever I shifted down a gear) I never faced this problem. After mastering blipping, I am now very confident, stable and never face any issue, mechanically or technically.

                            3. It is suggested that you shift down to neutral before coming to a halt and not stop in second gear. Remember that transmission is better sorted when the bike is in movement. And when parked, it is highly suggested not to play with the gears. Hitting false neutral is common. You can manage it by revving the engine slightly and shifting up to second. It won't harm the engine and your bike wont stall or jump around.

                            4. Yes the stock headlight is only 35W and the reflector is also very small. Previously, I owned a bike with 35W stock headlight but the reflector it had was wide and focused properly. You can go for 55W phillips X-treme vision headlight with 12V rating. But there's a catch. I have friends who have this headlight on their gixxers. One of them has gone for this setup without using any relay. Other 2 who use it, have relay installed as a precautionary measure. So consult a good mechanic/electrician and do what you feel is good. Haven't faced any problems yet for both the cases. I also suggest you to avoid riding in the night time on highways or anywhere outside the city.

Before you look up for any information about service and other mechanical parts, I suggest you to read through the user manual completely.

And just for you, the first service is not a big deal. You have to check if the engine oil is properly changed and whatever issues you take there are sorted out.

And here is something trivial. My bike came with rear suspension set at level 2. I never scraped on any bumper even with heavy pillion. On my third service, almost after 7 months, I noticed that and changed it to level 3. The only difference is that the bike doesn't wobble anymore at sharp turns and has amazing straight line stability (just to check, I took my hands off the handlebar once). I am planning to take it to level 4 soon as I like the bike this way. I feel that traction and braking has also improved.

If you have any doubt about throttle blipping, you can refer to the general bike discussion thread or inbox me. It's been discussed so many times and hence I do not want to mention it again. You are welcome to ask me any time.

Remember, good service station and mechanic are very important. Try to find them and your ownership will be a pleasure, for any bike. Also I prefer having the bike in stock condition as I have immense trust on the engineers at the factory who designed the bike. I also avoid hot rodding/modifying to avoid warranty from becoming null and void.

                            Cheers mate.

Wow!!This was not the response i expected but i am so glad you decided to take your time and write this. Thanks a lot.
Can you show me link to discussion on what blipping is?meanwhile i'll also google a bit. I ain't gonna modify anything in the bike as of now. Not interested in all this. All i want to change now is the lights. I noticed that you suggested Philips and not osram. Any reason why?

Also i see you are from Chennai. Can you recommend any good shop where i can get the lighting fixed in case i need relay?will adding relay void warranty?

                                Hello,

                                3. It's good to know that you reside at Kovilambakkam. So let me start off by saying that OMS suzuki is better compared to all others in the area. I bought my bike elsewhere but I service it at OMS, not because their service is exceptional, but just that they have courteous personnel. That's like giving you a better purchasing experience and service experience than all other showrooms in and around the place.

Now let me come to the remaining list,

                                1. She is not my wife. I am not married. She is not my girlfriend either. She is a petite girl, well, having the built of an average Indian girl, my team mate at work. I spent pretty long hours on my bike with her as my pillion. The very first thing she told me was this, "wow, cool bike. I find your bike very comfortable. I love the ride!". She was an amazing pillion and gripped the bike so well with her legs - well that's a tip; it works well for the pillion when he/she grips the bike properly. And the rest is relative to you and your wife. Take her on a test ride. Do not go for Honda Hornet. Instead, go for RTR 200 4V which has relatively lower pillion seat and is now very refined and also more powerful. This is just my view.

                                2. It is possible to take the saddle height little higher. Only way is to visit a good lining shop and ask the shopkeeper to increase the front seat height with good quality cushion. But you know? It will spoil the whole riding experience. You will not experience the bike as it is. It will only hurt your back. This bike can be so much fun! And there is no way to make your wife feel that she is sitting lower. It was funny to see pillions on FZ and gixxer next to each other. On gixxer, it's like the pillion sits higher but also has his legs stretched downward on the footrest at a comfortable angle. On FZ, the seat height is lower and also the pillion's knees have tighter angle.

An extra suggestion. From my experience and friends circle, the dual tone gixxer has poor quality paint job on the side panels. They tend to fade away quicker. The matte grey color on the single tone ones stays longer. It's your wish and preference in the end. Just saying, though.

                                Hey,

You're welcome. Do spend a lot of time on the forum but just look for what you want. Otherwise, it's easy to get confused.

Regarding the blipping part, well, I don't mind explaining it in person but I am on mobile device now and it's very hard to navigate and find the particular page in that large thread. Do not see too many videos about blipping too. It's highly confusing. Not all mention the trick involved in it.

I suggested phillips because they work well and I have seen it first hand on my friends' bike as I've mentioned earlier. They're reliable.

I do not modify my bike and so I do not know any good shop which can do that. Hence, I am not suggesting you anything about it. When I'm in need of anything I will have to find people who know how to fix things for the good. Seek and you shall find, is all that I can say.

Do not go to service station to ask for a change in headlight. I am not sure about the bike's warranty getting void by changing the headlight or adding a relay but I'm pretty sure that the battery's warranty will become null and void. It might be a hindrance when you have any problem with the battery in the future. They will point out whatever you've done with the electrical part of the bike as a reason, lame, but valid from business point of view.

                                Cheers.
