• Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience

Today I saw an RC with the tyre hugger/mud guard and saree guard removed, looked really good. However I've heard of mud spray etc. etc. so I followed him for a while, (he took the same route as me) and didn't notice any such issue(and this was right after heavy rain). Is there any other possible drawback of removing it? Also I'm pretty sure it won't affect warranty, but I'd just like to make sure.

Can this be done myself, or will I have to get it done at the SVC?

Another question, does any graphics change lead to voiding of warranty or such? Wanted to get this done, could someone confirm it? The guy I got the windshield job done from, which was pretty good, is willing to do the entire thing for 3.5k. Also if anyone has any designs, would love it if you shared them

Lol you can remove the saree guard yourself. Using alans from the toolkit.
The wrap is available for 3.5k or 2.9k at wrapandride.com

Are you referring to only the saree guard or the mudguard as well? I'm really new to all this, so don't mind noob questions Is there any guide or anything for it? Couldn't find one O.o

About wrapandride, is it good, the product quality and such?

Regarding changing the stickers, I saw another point mentioned online, about RTO registration, does the change in colour need to be updated with the RTO?

Thanks!

Yes the mudguard as well, just find the bolts and remove them.. but honestly your back would be covered by mud.
No registration changes needed because the paint is not being changed it is just the stickers..

I removed the saree guard pretty easily, but how do i remove the mudguard? I tried the one in the black protuding part, at the end of those metal bars connected to the tyre hugger, which needed allan keys, but that part was welded or something to the entire framework. O.o
Thanks!

remove these two bolts on both the sides(left and right).
Put the bolt no 2 back(this holds the tyre hugger. Click image for larger version

You can remove the rear mud guard during the summer months but its better to have it during the rains. After a ride in mud/slush your back and pillions back will be covered in mud. Also the pillion grab rail under the seat will get very muddy leaving you with muddy hands when you hold it to move the bike.

P.S. : These pics were awesome and I don't know why It's getting blur & pixelated here.

Some of the pics that I clicked of my bike. No tyre hugger = sexiness.

But you will need it in summer.
Removing it is hardly 5 min work and putting it back might take 15 min.

Just remove the 2 bolts mentioned above and tight then back after removing parts.
Keep parts in home and install them back when you're touring or its rainy season.

No tyre hugger in rainy season = so much hard mud under sear area, number plate area and even in rear seat. If there's a pillion, expect their back to be full wet and all mud painted.

There is no warranty or thing. I took of mine saree Guard and left it at service centre itself right after purchasing bike.

The higher I took out at home in few days.

Best of luck.

Any pointers on how to remove the front number plate without keeping the gap between the mirror and the visor?

You can remove the whole front mounting plate and cut it from both sides just where the mirrors end.
PS- don't remove the rubber seal below that plate!

I used 14 Size Rubber Washers from Bajaj Spares. They're just perfect. Been over a year now, they've held up fine. No vibes whatsoever, the mirrors sit better than they do with the license plate.

You could get it cut like what Amodraut said, but In case you want to put it back, you'll have to get that specific part again and it's not so easy to find such spares.

Can you share the pic of size 14 Rubber Washer? I have some bajaj spares distributors here and I will get it today then. Secondly give me some idea how to fit the P200NS tank pad on the RC390. The curved tank is not holding the tank pad. I dont want to use feviquick or something that would spoil the tank permanently.

• Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience

Hi everyone, I've been following this thread for quite a while, but this is my first post. I have had an RC 390 for 10 months now, ODO being approx 6000 KMs. Recently I've been experiencing a lot of issues.

1. While starting the bike on a cod engine: Earlier, it would take 3 cranks (if thats what its called) of the starter to get started. Now it takes 6-7 cranks on a cold engine. After the bike heats up, it takes 3 cranks itself. Sometimes, right after turning on, even with the clutch completely pulled in, the bike turns off.

2. Idling: While idling, the RPM isnt steady, it goes up and down. Along with this, sometimes it gets 'stuck'. For example, if to go up a slope I take the bike to say 5k rpm, even after leaving the throttle, it stays at the same rpm for 2-3 seconds, as if its still being revved. This happens at times while idling too.

3. Jerking: While riding, sometimes the bike jerks while accelerating (very mildly though). Honestly, this particular aspect could be a figment of my imagination too, if its there, its minor.

4. Power output: This is the main reason why I feel there are issues, as recently, while accelerating, it doesn't have the same effect it used to. To describe it, assume you could say if the power come through a tube, it would feel like the tube is clogged, and the entire output isn't available. It feels like something is holding the bike back while accelerating.

5. Vibrations: After second service vibrations were fine, however now, it feels like vibrations have increased excessively, to the point where the bike feels very rough at times.

6. Not sure if this is related, or is even what i think it is, but near the front tyre, above the disc brake, at the base of the metal pole like thing, sometimes I've noticed a deposit, black color, which very very rarely I've noticed is dripping(at a very slow rate), but I doubt this would be related to the above.

Judging from these aspects, to me it seems like all these are interconnected problems, caused by some particular problem, but honestly I know nothing about bike technicals.

I sincerely request that I receive help for this, as I don't know what to do. These sort of issues shouldnt be there on a relatively new bike which isnt even a year old. Its really worrying me, having spent a lot of my money on this bike. What could have caused this, I dont know, my riding style is pretty moderate, I do take it up to higher rpms once in a while, but mostly I keep it below 7-8k.

Air filter is one of the possible options, however thats most unlikely, as it was recently replaced during service.

To note, I'm taking to the service center this coming week
Thanks in advance!

Would request your help too please

There is a solution somewhere on the forum, basically people have put a bit of double tape at the edges of the battery cover, to prevent it from moving. Effective DIY solution
