You can go to lamington road , grant road E to get the ready circuits with digital display to check battery status in real time ( designed for UPS/Inverter applications) , though fitting near digital consol may be a issue.Originally posted by kripscorp View Post

I agree on this , tunning a carburetor is not that easy , it takes experience , patience and lots of luck to get it proper. a small mismatch can hamper FE and performance , even experienced mechanics don't fiddle it too much though all designs( engine , gears, caburetor ,etc) are same with very close tolerence , its rider who is very different from other.Originally posted by gmagesh14 View PostMurali, considering your bike has completed run-in as per kms ,the mileage is fine and see it's not an accurate one ,it's just a approximate value only.. For correct figures you can try bottle method with help of SC..
Gears will get smoothen once you start use them (means lot)., See in my bike it got to smoothen after 2nd service and for some it's even after their 1st service and some still complaints it didnt happen not even after many miles ..
From my experience on highways, I assure you our stock horn is one of the loudest and clear sound which fulfils the purpose of a horn. Windtones are good for fancy things and it'll be noticebale only at Cities, not suitable for highways at good speeds..
Kripscorp, since his bike has just completed 1st service , it's not a good thing to compare his mileage now and adjust the carb setting too early.,
Let him munch some miles and let the gear shifts and all settle first., My request is ,please dont suggest this opinion to new bikes,,
@MURALI :: Seriously, dont take it seriously and adjust the carb setting.,
@ MURALI, take your own time to settle , 50 KPL is good FE at this stage , gears will eventually become smooth , just ride smoothly and shift softly as per recommeded engine speed mentioned in manual.

Please help
@ All, few days back i had removed the clutch, accelerator cable to try a diff handle bar. After replacing the same, the gears have become hard(literally have to press hard). Tried diff clutch settings, no help. No improvement even after SVC techs and Local Mechs adjusting the chain slackness and clutch cable adjustment.
There should be something else apart from chain slackness, clutch adjustment that need to be checked.
PLEASE HELP/SUGGEST ANY RESOLUTION.

Hi guys , yesterday had a great experience and would like to share with you guys
There was ongoing shooting for Yamaha bikes with there brand ambassador Mr John Abraham, when we visited kharghar , Navi Mumbai Mumbai.
The scene was supposed to be Mr John riding a FZ on traffic road and all dull & stupid looking audis, mercs , marutis , buses , indicas and other 2 wheelers making way .
The 200 + staff admired the bike when I was leaving the place with my family ..thought to be imported one
.. still not that common yar
. I hoped Mr John would ask for a test ride
though he owns a hayabusa.

I completed 200 kms on my new Black GS. Even though it has been a while since GS was launched, I'm still getting many stares whenever I park my bike. Feels good
I have a few doubts:
1) Gear shift was hard initially, now it became a bit smoother. Hope it will be butter smooth after first service. Now shifting form 1st to 2nd in 3k band is difficult. But if I shift after 4k, its smooth. Is this normal?
2) I notice a change of sound when engine rpm reaches 4-4.5k in 4th & 5th gear. When I upshift, the sound becomes normal. This odd sound doesn't come always. It comes once in a while. Any idea?
3) The manual says that I should keep engine rpm below 5k during run-in. but it doesn't tell anything about speed. Eventhough I was planning to keep it below 50, i end up in riding 54-57 range. I realize this only when I look in the speedo. Is this ok, or should I keep it below 50 always?
4) When should I change oil? Manual says during first service. But someone suggested that I should change it more frequently. Is that so? Will service center people do it?
Thanks in advance

Please keep it up and do follow it., Keep the rpm in the range below 5k and do vary it..
No harm in crossing the range a little, just for a while

Well thanks for the reco. I generally shift gear on 4 to 4.5K RPM. By doing this, I feel the engine's complete energy in all gear shift and by the time I reach 6th gear iam at 55 KMPH.Originally posted by Vikshe View PostI agree on this , tunning a carburetor is not that easy , it takes experience , patience and lots of luck to get it proper. a small mismatch can hamper FE and performance , even experienced mechanics don't fiddle it too much though all designs( engine , gears, caburetor ,etc) are same with very close tolerence , its rider who is very different from other.

The hard shift in gear happens only when iam driving at slow bumper to bumper traffic.

At 5000 RPM, the bike reaches 69 kmh. Ride in every gear and vary the speed. Change the oil as suggested in the manual.Originally posted by josettan View PostI completed 200 kms on my new Black GS. For a smooth gear shift, release the throttle fully before you shift the gear.
Some other experts are asking to check the oil level in every 100 (hundred) kms even if you are in a congested traffic.

Just follow what the manual says, do take some more time and read between words manual doesn't recommended any specific brand but it recommends the Grade as per temp,Originally posted by josettan View Post

most of us here in this forum used the 20W-40 Grade and that worked out well for GS
Oops your ? is about the oil change frequency ? yeah you can go as per the manual recommended way it wont harm
to be frank i used to follow the below way during run in but am not recommending/suggesting any one to follow my way even though my bike is at good health he he heee i leave it the bike owners own discretion
first oil change 250 KMS
Second..........750 Kms
third..............1500 kms
fourth at 3000 kms
then changing at every 2000 to 2500 kms depends up bikes response aka my own belief and how the oil is
every alternate oil change i used to change the oil filter.
am using Motul oil because i like it and am not recommending or stopping you from buying it anyway here too leave it the bike owners own discretion
Remember CASTROL is a SUPERSTAR OIL But there is a lot of duplicates are in market

Congrats on the buy. I also got it very recently and have done about 300 KM.
I have a few doubts:
1) Gear shift was hard initially, now it became a bit smoother. Hope it will be butter smooth after first service. Now shifting form 1st to 2nd in 3k band is difficult. But if I shift after 4k, its smooth. Is this normal?
I also had the same issue. But the SVC guys assured me that it will become smoother as more km is clocked.
2) I notice a change of sound when engine rpm reaches 4-4.5k in 4th & 5th gear. When I upshift, the sound becomes normal. This odd sound doesn't come always. It comes once in a while. Any idea?
I also get this sound. This comes when I give more throttle than normal. The sound is horrible. Its like I am stressing the engine. On up shift, this goes off. I need to wait till first service to comment more on this.
On 6th gear you can go slightly above 65. If the manual says its ok, then its ok
4) When should I change oil? Manual says during first service. But someone suggested that I should change it more frequently. Is that so? Will service center people do it?
Stick to the manual buddy.
Thanks in advance
