I'm one of the first buyers of the bike (bought it on Feb. 23, 2009) and it's 13000+ kms (sadly, mine is a 45-50kms commute to office) on the odometer.

Post me if you do have any queries regarding long-term ownership experience of mine.

    Thanks,

    Hi,
I am looking at a 150cc motorcycle myself and am confused between Unicorn and GS150R. I have ridden both bikes. I like both equally.
My main doubts about the GS are:
    1. How is Suzuki's service?
    2. How is the performance of the bike overall?
    3. How are the parts of the bike? Are all of them of good quality. I am worried about Suzuki's quality control.

I am a big fan of the Unicorn but it just doesn't offer as much goodies as the GS does.

    Thanks
    Regards,
    Vignesh G

      1. If your are from a big city, service won't be a problem. In fact you won't be finding yourself in a big queue when you pay a visit to the service center unlike Bajajs and Hondas.
      2. Performance is OK to be frank. If you are looking for a performance bike, go for Apache or R15 or Pulsar (150, 180 and 220). But, there is no major difference between Unicorn and GS.
      3. Parts are all of very good quality in comparison with Unicorn, Pulsars and Hero Hondas

Even I had this same confusion between Unicorn and GS while making a decision. Unicorn's engine sound is really very very sweet. GS's engine is very very silent too. And yes, it's has got one helluva beautiful digital console made with good quality materials.

Almost all who think of ride quality think of Unicorn or GS. Even I had the same trouble of chosing between the two.

I decided to go for the GS because
        1) GS has more power than the unicorn.(but because of more weight, the difference is hard to notice while riding)
2)GS has better top speed (117Km/H)
3)Sixth gear is a real boon on the highways. It keeps the bike smooth and at lower RPM for the same speed.
4)GS is not common like the unicorn.
5)The Suzuki service is really good here in my place.
        6) Dont have to wait for 2 months for delivery like the Unicorn.(This was the case in sept 2009 here)
With great Power(and Torque) comes great responsibility.

        • I asked both Kothrud and Swargat suzuki service centers here in pune abou the change of regulator under warranty, but both denied that there is such notice from Suzuki! Any solution on this, as I plan to give the bike for servicing tomorrow?

          • Thanks for replying,
I weigh over 100kgs. I'm sure the GS150 will be a better choice compared to Unicorn's monosuspension.
I stay in Bangalore. So service shouldn't be a problem.

It used to give jerks and eventually stop when I ride the bike in high speed (~8000 rpm in 6th gear i.e., 100-110kmph) for 1-2 minutes continuously. Only after putting in reserve does it start. Checked out with SC guys, got the air filter cleaned and some fuel cock adjusted and voila! I haven't faced that problem again.

That SC guy told that it was due to some air lock in the fuel tank.

              Thanks
              hey, thanks for the info...
I'll go to the SC and get it checked immediately...

Yes, you can get your free services done at any authorized Suzuki service center throughout India. By the way, what is a rectifier?

Bro, When the regional manager(Mr.Vinod Natrajan) came for the service camp, I asked for the change in regulator. It was done immediately. The SC guys may be do not know or not willing to do the same. Probably you can get it done if some higher people ask the centre to do so. When I asked for the first time even I was given the same reply.

                        • I have asked the manager of Kothrud suzuki about the same, but guess he lied and said it will void the warranty! Lets see what reasons he has tomorrow.

NO. Though there is one gear more in GS, the sixth gear isn't as tall as it should be i.e., 6th gear at 5000rpm gives 68kmph on GS whereas 5th gear at the same speed gives ~65kmph on Unicorn, XTreme and Hunk. So, there is not much noticeable difference as advertised. I believe a more taller 6th cog would have helped GS as it's max torque is coming at only 6000rpm.

                              • I have heard that the gear shift lever is a bit of bother because of its raised heel area.
How do you all find it? Is it easy to use?
