I think a 15W50 oil, (especially the thick 300V) for this bike would be a bit too much for this bike. They do have a 5W40 in 300V.

What oil is the bike currently running on? How is its condition now?

Try some better oils from the market within the recommended grade - 20W40. You need not spend your money on Synthetics directly. I'd bet on Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40.

15w50 will be TOO thick for GS. I agree with "HydBiker". You live in Mumbai so you can try 20w40 Elf Motogold. I use that on my Fiero & it is smooth.Try semi synthetic oils like Shell 10w40 which are a little cheaper than Full synthetic.

If you need to buy Elf,do let me know. I`ll guide you where you can buy it from.

            done 1st service last week.
but after riding haven't felt much difference.
instead gears are making much noise. & feeling somewhat under powered.
engine makes lot noise at lower gears. though i keep rpm below 4.5k
also idle speed is around 1.3k when i start my bike in morning & then it shows around 2k whenever i start bike later throughout the day.
this was not the case before.... but the bike is awesome & i love my bike
            pls comment.

just for curiosity, can we replace handle bar of GS with clip on handle bar?
            wiil it look good?
I too feel that the engine noise is more on lower gears.
I am confused on the idle RPM value, after the bike has ran for a few KMS, should it still be 1.5K or is 2K normal ?
For me the gears are very smooth.

            • Bad news guys,
my bike has become horrible after 4th service...

those false reserves happen atleast twice a day for the last 2 days..

I filled 150 bucks shell petrol when my bike went to reserve and i went 50km(from reserve) smoothly and after that every 10km atleast once its jerking and turning off...
if i shift it to reserve for 2 min and put it back on "on" position it goes for another 10-15km and stops again...

even before this, when i has filled 200 bucks petrol this started happening after 130-150km...

I dont think this problem is related to tank design at all, because it never happened much till 4th service..

Any ideas what i can do to make it work properly ??

Can be due to the following reasons....
                  1) Maybe because of dirt particles blocking the fuel flow...
                  2) There is an air inlet tube which keeps the tank vacuum free so that the fuel flows freely... Just check the tube is not bend and the air flow is not blocked...

                  • hey guys dont fill shell petrol at all it is causing some problems to engine it is depositing some thin rubber like film on piston and cylinder walls better stick to normal petrol.
I can put any Signatures :P

                    • Hi guys

This is Vikas from Hyderabad. It's been many months since I posted on this forum. You can find my posts in the first 50 pages of this thread I guess .

I'm one of the first buyers of the bike (bought it on Feb. 23, 2009) and it's 13000+ kms (sadly, mine is a 45-50kms commute to office) on the odometer.

Post me if you do have any queries regarding long-term ownership experience of mine.

                      Thanks,
                      Vikas

It does not loose any kind of performance. Infact when the ODO reading is bulding up the engine feels smooth & you feel to keep on riding on & on. My personal exp as I was also the first lot owners & had covered 9k in 6 months time with 2-3 weekend rides.

No, performance has not degraded. Not at all!

It is true that engine got smoother but my bike is giving some minor vibrations in 5000-6000K rpm i.e., 68-75 kmph in 6th gear. They are very marginal though. I gave it for her 8th service yesterday but forgot to mention that problem. I guess tightening of chassis bolts would rectify it.

Mileage is pretty consistent. around 48kmpl.

I thought some petrol theft happened when i left it behind garuda till 11pm.

This is a big pain in the @$$.

any suggestions?? (btw i used Indian oil not shell)

                              other point,

Well, even I had the same problem in Apr/May 2009 (when my bike was a couple of months old). It used to give jerks and eventually stop when I ride the bike in high speed (~8000 rpm in 6th gear i.e., 100-110kmph) for 1-2 minutes continuously. Only after putting in reserve does it start. Checked out with SC guys, got the air filter cleaned and some fuel cock adjusted and voila! I haven't faced that problem again.

That SC guy told that it was due to some air lock in the fuel tank.

                                Thanks
