Long time no C
hello friends...
Its been a long time posting here... thanks to arvindraj66 who made me to today.. Actually I'm a silent listener here and daily visitor... I remember quite a few old timers like shadowfax, sivakumar, animeher, imjoshee, sam9s... list goes on... with whom I remember interacting often. I just cherish reading all your posts here.. This forum rocks like the bike.
I just am busy (sometimes lazy too
)to post here...
Last week my bike completed 1 year of ownership.. Now ODO reads ~10950Kms. Its been an amazing experience and hope it continues. Engine is pretty good... Still contemplating whether to change oil or stick to the SC one... My drive train is one area of concern as I shared previously about the mysterious sound that comes from the chain... Now the gear shifts have become a little harder so I'm waiting for my service due in June 1st week...

Lubricating Chain
Thats a good news Augustine, do give her some special anniversary gift like Abhi.
I think no one has ever mentioned about cleaning and lubricating chain. Within my 5 month ownership i have cleaned chain thrice. On first free service I asked to lubricate chain which they did, but somehow didn't bother to clean the chain before lubricating it. This made a grinding noise when ever the chain engages with the sprocket.
This made me open the chain cover. As the chain cover have small opening very little dirt enter the chain but the real problem is sand grains which causes some gritty sound. On internet i happen to see a site saying kerosene is better compared to diesel and WD-40(don't know what it is). So i filled a spraying can with kerosene, cleaned with old tooth brush and dried with cloth. Repeated 2-3 time till the chain was shining with its own metallic color without any oil or grease. When i rotated the wheel without even giving a lubricant it rotated more than when there was oil, which means the grains were causing more friction.
Then left it for some hours before applying some white grease used in ball bearing. The one i used was Castrol AP-3 grease.
Don't know if this is a correct procedure, but the sound is gone....Last edited by Anupdas; 05-21-2010, 08:35 PM.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

Thanx anup...
I've never tried to do something on my own in this bike... Will try to do so.. I still have the fear factor if i'll mess up something...
.. One more person have also said the same thing and asked me to clean the chain. Is there any thread which can help a rookie like me in doing things... I cant remember if we have discussed earlier in this thread..

Everyone are rookies at beginning, i dont think any S.C will clean it as honest as ourselves( It took 1 hour for cleaning ). There are some in our forum itself. Majority of such discussions are seen in open chain type bike threads such as FZ-16 and R-15 they are using motul chain cleaner and yamalube ,each of them cost around 450 Rs. Nothing can possibly go wrong as we are just cleaning the chain. Have to remove 6 nuts and tighten them. I even removed the cover of primary socket where we can see the speed sensor which i think is a Hall Effect sensor.
Let's wait for our senior members to answer these.......Last edited by Anupdas; 05-21-2010, 11:36 PM.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

Welcome
Welcome to Gspian community Mihir. The 2010 GS differ only in color scheme and graphics. The RR unit has been replaced with new CA series to earlier BA series. Though no changes are done to engine specs, those who test drove 2010 model reported improved engine refinement.
Why going for all orange scheme? All orange one is earlier model, 2010 model comes only in orange and black dual tone.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

yup not much upgrades but some earlier issues have been solved but i have driven both 2009 and 10 model the 2010 model had better refinement a notch up.
On color side yeah even i liked the 09 model for that fact though haven't seen the dual tone though have ridden the 2010 model black color on test ride.
The only change is RR Unit,Silencer cover that's all.I will still say if i could get the 2010 model with full colors would have been gr8.

According to my understanding, it is not necessary for any company to disclose the changes made in their products...Originally posted by *MIHIR* View PostSo what would you suggest, 10 or 09 ????
still i would say when i looked at both of them i liked 09 veryy much
The company listens silently to the customer feedbacks (through e-mails, service camps, sc guys etc...) and further make improvements.
The actual fact is that if they reveal all their R n D details to the public, their will be a lot of panic among older customers... And they pounce back for replacement of spares..
Example:- Since the RR unit change was clearly understood, customers (including myself) wanted to get it replaced

If the company tells that old engine is crappy and has lot of issues, Why??; I myself will pounce back upon them for replacement

The engine may be redefined, but the details r disclosed even to the dealers and SC people...
So, new Batch is always the best choice
