This will not happen if the bike runs only a few kms at a time. Many people only use the bike for only a few kms at a time and the engine is not run hot for some time. This is also the reason why many bikers find the gears on a new bike rough when hot. It is a good thing, because soon the gears will be better.
Thanks for such a detailed explanation. I have clocked 5600 on ODO so far, not much riding for a week as I'm having study vacation. I have noted that gears were getting stuck very often before ( just 10 minute ride with a pillion), now it has reduced and i began to use only toe to shift. Your explanation completely answers those. I have done quite some 100+ kms rides just to have proper break in, of those first two rides felt as even if I continue anymore the piston will be stuck took some breaks at that time. Planning to put Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20w40 @6000 Km. Do you have any experience with this one?

I stated that LED's dont work on DC because, in our Lab and all we have always used LED's in DC( forward biasing) and it wont glow if connected reverse, in AC since its alternating all the time thought it will never work.

    • Rode new gs.....

Today i gave my gs for 2nd service......told him all the problems.

1)the idle is not withstanding the rpm...mean to say the engine is immediately off once started....
2)harsh and grinding behavior of the engine...gentle for initial few kms and than increased sound and low intensity vibes...
3)screws loosened engine sound for the initial kms......

      1) is solved and 2)the intensity was reduced and for 3) one the problem was absent when i started..but when i came to my home (20 kms) switched off the engine..when i again took gs(after 10 mins) for bringing mangoes..that "screws loosened engine sound" again resurfaced.....will have to revisit tomorrow...

today i got a opportunity to test ride a new gs150r.....I must admit that their is noticeable difference in the engine behavior.....The new gs is refined and is smooth....one more important thing is i feel that the seat is some what lower when compared to its predicesor.......but mind you the comfort is still the same...

the serviceman head himself admitted that the new gs is refined than the previous one..when i asked him for test ride he told it will take time .....and when i told him that my cousin is looking for a new bike and he has gs and dazzler on radar (trap)he told me to wait for 10 mins.....he got a new gs..with the tank cover still not removed....and gave me for test ride...i rode at max 54kmph(beyond that was hindered by traffic).....that is how i got a opportunity to ride a new gs...

      Cheers,
      Nag.

AFAIK the Head light is powered from the alternator output and not directly from battery like Karizma, Pulsar 220's. So if you want to improve headlight one way is to rewind the alternator to increase its power from 35W to 55W. When i searched through this forum itself there were some serious discussions on the same issue about @ pages 96 or so.

        • Yup even i felt a difference in two in terms of refinement but don't know how much is actually true since the 2010 model was 3 kms old and the 09 model was around 900Kms old.

Edit: yeah i know Anyway the Pilot lamps load shedding is currently a good option unless you want style and want to be more safe on the road.

            • LEDs

If u want to connect the led pilot lamps to dc power, why not connect it directly to the battery??
I have placed 2 blue LEDs on the lower part of the fairing and connected them directly to the battery(using resistors). They have been working fine for 4 months.

The first problem can be solved by increasing the idling rpm, even we can do it. Second and third will reduce eventually as you put some kilometers on ODO. The drive chain also makes some noise if its loose. The above problems can be reduced by using good engine oils. Though you have completed second service you havent ridden bike much its still going through break in period.

And what about the front brake, I think in GS rear brake can only be used to slow a bit, if you want to decelerate quickly you need to use both front and back brakes. But after changing brake shoes, in low speeds rear wheel is locking even if it is applied gently. Since its on low speeds it wont do any harm but if that happens at above 50 or so, will be really dangerous. I think thats the main reason why Suzuki provided GS with 130mm drum brakes even though the bike weighs more.

                    • Forgot to tell you one more thing, today luckly i met a gs owner with odo 25,000km,who came for service....i requested him, that i will ride his bike for testing...luckly he agreed......the bike was matured...trust me the problems which we are discussing are not there and the bike was smooth and refined....he himself told me about the problems he has faced for the intial 10 to 12k kms on odo.. which are similar to us.......and as he clocked more kms the bike got setteled to refined and smooth one..

so lets hope ours too matures with more kms clocking on the Odo...

                      Thanks,

                      • @anup the Front disc are Fine Actually well testing Gs i used only the front brakes When i actually applied the Rear the Bike did slow but really i think they need to work on the Rear brakes a Disc Would have made it very good considering the weight of the bike.

                            • Damn, i had another fall from my bike today..
This time was pretty bad too, not for the bike but me.

I tried going on that U turn indiranagar fly over loop at 55-60, guess the pillion got scared and told me not to bend and shook a little, so even i got scared and straightened the bike, but at that speed i couldn't complete the U turn and applied brakes when i was close to the wall. sadly, that fly over loop is never cleaned and i skidded in the sand at the side of the road

the skin got scraped off from my right hand and palm too, it burns pretty bad

Surprisingly nothing happened to the bike except few scratch on crash guard and lens indicator..

Also i see more GS owners down south and in mumbai not many owners in Delhi or else they are not coming forward
