Don't mind these Manu. Whenever someone reports a problem, everyone reports theirs. My GS has done 3100 Kms in 3 months and its due to second service next week. Wanted to share some new experiences, but i guess since everyone is presenting their problems i must say some goodies. Engine has become more refined and responsive. Mileage figure constantly above 50 with a pillion @ 55-60 Kph. After completing 3K mark did some revving and did some cruising in 3 figures. Bike was rock solid but i was shaking like crazy as it was my first experience. The bike gives a great feel even at those speeds and urges to go even faster.

Thanks for the info mate.. finally some relief...huh
2010 gs owners pls answer these:

1]Are you sure that 2010 model are improved than previous ones??

2]previously there were problems like rusting, valve clutter noise, roughness after engine gets hot..are they rectified now?

3]I know that mileage depends on riding style..but after going through the thread,i found that there is lot of variation here.... i think one should be lucky enough to get a good bike from the lot

I usually travel 30kms to my college one way,so it might be a problem if gear shifting becomes rough after few kms of riding...

            happy biking...enjoy your rides

              • Hi friends,
Im on the forum after several days... Very good to see new people have joined the club. My bike is running very well...

Except that gear down shifts are hard if I shift without revving and somewhat I feel engine is rough... I mean its not the vibrations but the roughness. I had gone out of city for 10 days so nobody used bike in that time.. and when I came back, I rode bike, then I started feeling the roughness. Don't know why exactly it is. Have changed oil only once. Servicing is due this month, I will change to some good oil and see what happens.

And I had small accident last moth... There are some scratches on headlight assembly. But its ok, doesn't matter that much..

Pune guys... I have lost contact with everyone on xbhp... Hi Animeher, can you PM me your number ? There is service camp at kothrud suzuki on 8th, 9th and 10th with some discount on labor & spares... You know it ? Hows your bike dude ? Have you faced any problems ?

Overall my bike is good.. Im happy. I will raise these issues at service camp and see what happens.. Im hopeful...

                • Hey shadowfax, thanks for the service camp info. I serviced my bike around 10 days ago Still would go to the camp and see whether they change the rectifier. Will PM you my number.

                  • hey, when all of you go to the camp, raise the issue of roughness..
Say when engine becomes hot it starts knocking slightly and sound increases and you kow someone who got a new piston and bore because of the same problem..

May be you people will get a new piston and bore too

                    • Last Saturday early in the morning at 6 am my friend called me and said that the trains were not working and he had an exam at 8am. Now we live in Navi-Mumbai and his exam was in Mumbai. By public transport it takes almost 1hr45mins to reach there. I woke up from my sleep agreed to drop him, changed my clothes in a hurry ran down to the bike only to remember that I was running in reserve for quiet some time now and the fuel meter was blinking since some two days. The bike was dusty, so I just blew off the dust on the speedo and dusted the seat and started off as I had no time to wipe it. I had my license and the keys but forgot the wallet in the hurry and half sleep. I grumbled at me for forgetting my money and not filling the fuel before such a situation and picked him up, and told him about the fuel situation and went to the nearby pump only to find that the pump is not open yet.

My friend and I get tensed decide to move on. We checked three more pumps on the way, none of them has opened at 6:20 in the morning. I calculate keeping in mind that the fuel meter starts blinking when there is 1.5L of petrol in it and with a mileage of atleast 45(I ride real fast sometimes) I could still go minimum 65kms. Now I have been riding around my house for the last two days. That could mean a 25kms max. So I still got enough petrol to go 40kms. So I pray that the bike does not stall in between or my friend will miss his exam and I ride on thinking if there is a pump on the way and by that time it will open. I get to the highway, it was really a cool morning. The sun was not out yet. And I was enjoying the smooth ride with only me friend sitting behind me grumbling at the railways and the petrol pumps and me for not filling fuel before and himself I done know for what. We were at 60Kmph as we needed to get the most out of the fuel without getting late. The smooth ride really relaxed me and soon I was humming some song. That got my friend so pissed that he started shouting. ‘I’m late for my exam and you don’t have fuel in your bike and you are singing songs.’ I apologized and with a smile rode ahead. It was real fun riding in the morning, no traffic jam, no heat just nice cool smooth ride. Soon my friend got a call from one of his friends saying that the trains have started working. So he insisted that I drop him off at the nearest railway station, lest the bike stalls and it will be a mess. So I agree and drop him at Dadar. It was 7:10 now and he had enough time to get to his exams on time. He goes running and I turn back only to remember that I forgot to take money from him for the petrol. Now I cant call him back, he will be late. So i move on.

Now I’m 25Kms away from home without money and on a bike that might stall any time. Every time I look at the Speedo, the blinking fuel gauge scares me. The ride was still smooth, but traffic was building up, the sun had come up and it was getting warmer. Now I had no song on my lips, just wanted to reach home without pushing the bike and have my breakfast. I decided not to look at the Speedo at all as it started getting me tensed. With every passing Km I would think that Oh I’ll atleast have 1km less to push if the bike stalls. Then it happened… the bike started choking and my heart started racing. I was like no… no… no… not now, a little more. I had a good 8kms to go. The engine stopped roaring and the bike stalled. I tried starting the bike but it didn’t happen. Then I shook the bike, opened the tank lid and closed it again, shook it again and started and finally it came back to life. I was so relieved that I started breathing back again.

After moving on some more the bike started choking again. I was only 3 kms away from home now. So I was prepared to push it. But then the choking cleared and the bike moved on. Finally I reached under my building. I was so happy now with my bike. I parked it and then I got an sms. The sms was from my friend, he had reached for the exam. I looked at the bike and it was going tic…. tic … the sound from the Catalytic converter. I decided to give my bike a wash and a wax polish and I was so happy that it did’t let me down.

+1. good to see some positives. With the way the last pages went, I got little worried about my bike. Completed 3100 kms till now and have not faced any major issues. Raj

Many people are going on and on that the Unicorn engine is smooth, unicorn engine is smooth.....

Yes, unicorn engine is smooth, but Gs150 engine is also smooth. The main difference is Unicorn is silent and smooth and Gs150 is grunty and smooth. So, dont confuse silent and smooth. Every engine has its own sound/tone, and this sound/tone depends to a large extent on the exhaust and engine CDI timing setup also. The herohonda Hunk has same unicorn engine, but the hunk sounds louder because of the different exhaust. So, do you think hunk engine is not smooth? Engines of Gs150r, hunk, fz16 are grunty and smooth. Many true bikers, in fact, want a good exhaust tone from their bikes, becaue it gives them the feeling of power and also lets them know exactly how the bike engine behaves. For that matter, Apache and Pulsar engines are also good, but pulsar engines tend to give problem soon after 3-4 years and require more maintainence, again depending on rider. But again, all bikes need maintainence.

One more fact is all engines vibrate. Yes, unicorn, gs150, cbzx, fz16, apache, pulsar, etc., all engines vibrate. But the difference is, in unicorn, gs150, fz16, and cbzx the engines are mounted to the bike frame/chassis in such a way that engine vibrations are not transferred to the frame/chassis of the bike. Thus, we cannot feel the vibrations on the handle and footpegs. This is where the apache and pular lack. The engine vibrations in Apache and pulsar are transferred to the bike frame/chassis and felt by the rider on the handle and footpegs. Although, this vibration problem seems to be solved to a large extent in the new Apaches and pulsars. But i have to say, in every bike the engine vibrations are felt more at particular engine rpms.

Another important factor in bikes is the gearbox. This is where the pulsar is not so smooth. Every bike gearbox is setup differently, so some bikes like Fz16 have good initial and mid-range pickup but lack top-end speed, so if you are riding a fz16 easily in city traffic, you will have difficulty overtaking cabs/cars traveling on highways at say 65-70 kmph. Bikes like gs150r lack initial pickup but have good mid-range and top-end speed, so you can really enjoy highways and long roads on Gs150r. Bikes like cbz, apache, and pulsar have good initial and mid-range pickup, but vibrate a lot at speeds of 70-80 kmph. Fz16, Apache, pulsar, Cbzx, Hunk all have better initial pickup than Unicorn and Gs150r. Unicorn has slightly better low-end pickup than gs150r, both Unicorn and Gs150r have equal mid-range pickup, but Gs150 has better top-end pickup than unicorn. Gs150r is slowest in 0-60 kmph, while gs150r is fastest in 0-100 kmph. So, if you are riding a Gs150, when the signal light turns green, Apache, pulsar, cbz, fz16 and even unicorn will move before you and you will be last to move, but you will be first to reach the next signal on Gs150r, only if the next signal is a bit far. Thats the difference. Again, the 6th gear in Gs150r is an advantage, it keeps the bike smooth even at high speeds.

Each bike has different riding posture and gear lever/footpeg and handlebar position. So, better take a test ride to see if the bike riding posture suits you. Also, monoshocks are good to take sharp turns and stability, but pillion comfort is questionable. Twin gas-shocks are better for bad roads and pillion comfort. Also, unicorn monoshock does not have linkage. Yam-R15 has linkage monoshock. I hope honda also fit linkage monoshock in unicorn in future.

One thing where Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha score is the quality of their bikes. Although Honda treat us Indians like second-grade and give us old technology, but still good quality old technology. Gs150r is definitely very well built, and fit and finish of Gs150r is definitely better than Unicorn.

Given the wide difference in features such as Digital speedometer, Mileage, monoshock/twin gas-charged shock aborbers, front and rear disk-brake, rider and pillion seat height/width, seating posture, footpeg/gear lever position, LED taillamps, looks/style, colors available, etc., then you have to decide which bikes suits your age, personality, and driving style and which among this is giving you more features/value for money. Sales/service network should not be a problem with all bikes, unless you are living in a far village which has no dealer.
