  • +1 to what falcon said i don't recall that NGk providing iridium plugs for GS only access has iridium and G power plugs available . Also Is the knocking sound from engine due to tappet since the local mechanic told that it was due to that. Any ideas?

    • Right on target Falcon, most perfect answer anyone could give to the question. It seems like you have done enough homework on the topic. Spark plugs of different engines differ by their thread length, aren't they? From what I have heard so far, fitting an Iridium spark plug to a lower CC engine wont give any performance gain but will surely last much longer than stock. And also the spit fire cables have very high conductivity (very low resistivity)which will deliver the full voltage to the spark plug without much of electromagnetic interference and cable losses. They supply high voltage in a sense they reduce the losses associated with regular cables.

      • @all............NGK Irridium for Suzuki GS150R is CR7HIX,though not mentioned on the NGK website because this bike is mostly out of focus, but the CR7HIX is the NGK irridium for the stock CR7HSA or the CPR7HSA spark plug that the GSR uses.

Today I smoked a hell lot of bikes, which had P220,P200 and Pulsar LS by 2 or 3 kilometers. These group of rowdy bikers kicked my friends R15 and challenged it,while we were returning from our Xbhp meet. The KN enabled R15 was very good, but suddenly the group closed in on him.Meanwhile they dint notice me going power mode and preparing for assault. Then I did the unexpected,I caught up with the racing group going full throttle and dragged the rowdy group to nowhere. In this way I rescued my friend with the R15 who was surrounded and was being taunted by the group,as the group made the mistake of leaving him and challenging me.
I smoked them, head to heels and stopped at a distance of 5kms.7 minutes later(GSR console clock is awesome too!!!!) as they passed me,I showed my third finger to every biker of that group and made a mincemeat of their family in my own language Then advised them to go to nursery and learn riding tricycles.
All they did was to stare blankly at my bike and hang their heads and ride away in shame(the P220 and P200 had their helmets on,others were without it!!!).This event happened on a city highway.......they were endangering the commuters....they got their lesson.

After this, from my inside I am totally dumbstruck by the level of performance the air-cooled 2valve GSR is capable of.My friend with the R15 was in total praise of the all-rounder character of my bike, which is capable of vast speeds and that too at an awesome economy

......But he was disheartened at the behavior of the rowdy group,I just consoled him that I dint turn home and I taught those rogues the lesson they ought to get for taunting my friend that way.....'sighs',though he was happy that they had been smoked with a bike hereto unknown and underrated.....he told me that those rowdy bikers must have had got the most tight and well sounding slap of their lives

Came across this video after today's incident, made me sit back and think...........

You may have reduced misfires and extended life of the plug and probably minute difference in mileage(1kmpl) with the plug..

To get full benifit of iridium you have to change to performance cable too (to provide higher voltage to the plug)..
Unfortunately these cables(spitfire for example) cost another 1300 approx.
With the entire setup(plug and cable) you should have much better pick up and mileage..

In any case, there wont be damage or over heating or reduced life.. dont worry about those things..
But where did you get an iridium plug ?? NGK doesnt provide one for GS i think.
Even i am not 100% sure. No info online as such.. It like searching tyre online for our GS.. At porur SMK SC, the service head showed me an iridium spark plug and told that it can be fixed.. But maybe as u mentioned it may be for access 125 Will confirm it again soon.

                        CR7HIX- C-hex size 5-8,Resistor-type,7-graded cold type,H-half thread,Iridium Nine(IX)
                        CPR7HSA-C-hex size 5-8,P-Projected type,Resistor-type,7-graded cold type,H-half thread,Standard special design A.
                        CR7HSA-C-hex size 5-8,Resistor-type,7-graded cold type,H-half thread,Standard special design A.

                        So what does it mean................
Iridium plugs are meant for constant ignition and higher temperatures as natural.Standard plugs do not have that character.
The only difference here seems to be the P,the main doubt.
P means projected electrode, this design was developed for Zeus and GSR both, reason being providing a higher temperature during combustion at lower rpms. The projected electrode, delves further(by 1mm only) into the combustion chamber,so that it gets constantly drenched in flame and sparks constantly for providing ample high temperature at lower rpms for torque.
But on Iridium plugs this is not required, iridium sparks are already far more constant and sparks regularly at higher temperatures by default, projected tip on this type of plug is not recommended as engine may overheat. The Iridium spark plug thus keeps the low-end performance of your bike similar to the stock, but where the plug really shines is in high-end and mid-range along with a lifespan longer than the stock plug and with a better fuel efficiency.
P-type spark plugs are not recommended on bikes meant for high performance,at higher temperatures these projected tips gets worn down very fast,so to a person for whom the GSR is an all-rounder,his stock spark plug would end its life soon.Signs of bad spark plug, low pick-up in the whole rev-range,wearing out of the ceramic insulator, too much carbon deposits and broken tip.
Non-projected sparkers are always for high performance machine, they dont have the risk of getting scorched at mid and high end throttle inputs when the temperature is huge in the combustion chamber.

The Iridium advantage.......though non-projected but being plug of higher induction temperature, the low end support from this plug wont vary from the stock plug performance, but at mid and high rev ranges, where the life of spark plug is truly put to test......it passes with flying colors as Iridium plugs melts at uber high temperatures so no tip breaking, being non projected-no ceramic insulator wearing due to high combustion temperature and superb performance and fuel efficiency for constant sparks and better combustion performance.

GS150R and Zeus both were recommended as commuters by the market,so the company followed suite. But in reality GS150R is an all-rounder,so anyone who expects better performance and FE from their bikes can use the CR7HIX without any doubt.

P.S. even with this amount of logic and tech, people may ask- how come I am so convinced?? Then let me answer,I used the Access 125 CR6HIX on my Zeus which uses CPR6HSA stock.......and my Zeus never did complain,no carbon deposits or this or that,I still have the iridium plug and its like brand new.My Zeus which was slightly modded with all these was the fastest accelerating 125cc in my city and most Fuel Efficient too.

There is no possibility of mud getting into the gas-shock chambers,or into the suspension. They are all well covered and are put together very tightly.Muds only on the surface, only needs the wash-off
The only region of concern here is mud scouring the chain,so the chain must be kept oiled during monsoons.
Yes,pressure wash is the only way to reach behind the suspension coils to wash the mud off.

                            • @ all : I have done the HID mod on the GS 150. All I can say is WOW!!

First of all, I'd like to thank abhijeet, Rajesh, shreeni, Sriram and Mach 50 Not to mention Aparajith, who gave me the HID in the first place.

The Mod job was quite simple and was completed in almost 45 Minutes. First off the mechanic Removed the front Headlight fairing and Used cable tie's to secure the ballast in position. Once this was done, He Bought in a relay and routed to the connection in the following order :

                              Lighting Coil -> Custom RR-> Stock RR -> Battery -> Switchgear->Relay -> Ballast-> HID

No changes were made and the pilots were left in place. So was the tail number plate lamp. The pass was not connected as he said the switch would not take the load and would eventually burn out. I think adding a relay such that it would dip the 55w halogen part of the HID would help. More into that later. I mostly wont be needing the Pass lights anyway . If need be I can always Dip using the highbeam low beam switch. i asked im to Invert the High beam low beam connections such that the Low beam is 55w and the highbeam is HID. this is for 2 reasons : to avoid inconvinience to other riders while riding in the city and to save the battery during Idle.

I rode some ten odd kilometers the day the MOD was done and found that the Horn was losing some juice to the Headlights. I removed the Tail Numberplate lamp and found that the 5 W made a difference. The horn was not changing its tone under city riding with both the halogen and the HID.

The total cost of the project was 1300 . the breakup is as follows :
                              • HID Bulb : 1000 bucks (second hand). Had very little usage and is 6300K type. the ballst read BOSCH, but I'm skeptical
                              • Relay, Rectifier, wiring and labor charges: Rs 250. Rate might vary, but he is the mechanic of a fellow xbhpian. For those who might think It's costly , the Quality of work speaks for itself.
                              • Petrol+fag for the 45 Minutes :50 Bucks

I'll upload the pictures sometime tomo. You'll be amazed at the difference it's made. It's priceless to watch Lorries with Highbeam DIP for a 35 W HID. Time we paid them back.

The Electrical Mod voids the Electrical warranty for the bike. This Includes Coil,RR,CDI,console,Battery and of course all lights. The Lights are never replaced under warranty as almost all SVC's say it's beacuse of over voltage or some other BS. Battery can be replaced separately with the manufacturer, not knowing a thing about the MOD. My CDI is not going to go Kaput as I've not touched the CDI Stator coil winding. I'll replace my harness sometime later as I'm planning to rewind my coil for extra Electrical Loads (Projector's perhaps) But it should not be a worry as It's the same load and there are no extra loads.

Lol I dint get the low beam 55W dipper thing......isnt your HID BiXenon with both Upper and Dipper ????

Next,Did the Custom RR had ports to connect the light wire from the magneto inbuilt ???
How did you connect the custom RR to the stock RR ???(in parallel or in series ??)
The Pass switch wont take the load of a 55W dipper, but it can surely take the load from A 35W dipper HiD....aint it ???
Why is the Horn losing some juice ????? isnt your bike DC by now ??? or is the battery not taking the load but it should as I think that the Coil is now charging your battery too through the full wave rectifier, which provides more juice than the AC half wave direct.

An advice though......if you want to save energy but require number plate lighting, shift to LEDs for them.
