4 or 4.5 k is not bad [in my term]Originally posted by Anupdas View PostWell said bro, I know that but what if it (tuning)worked. I'm riding bike like spoiling her(4-4.5K ). God's country or not, roads are the same everywhere

i was been there to kerela for a while (2 months ) and did visited almost 14 months back
Thus i am sure kerela road condition is far far better than the one in bangalore and chennai.
i curse you to get a job in IT field either in chennai or mumbai or Bangalore to feel the condition here

Welcome to our community broOriginally posted by Krish007 View PostFinally after having done a lot of brainstorming. Booked GS150R, Waiting eagerly for it to get it delivered
. Last year at the same time I was doing the same(eagerly waiting for my ride). I can hardly believe my bike is nearing her first b'day. Can you say a little about that "brainstorming"? What are the goodies you want on your bike etc. Please dont make it short

. You have stayed in Kerala for 2 months and last time you visited was 14 months back, isnt it?
Due to monsoon downpours, the roads get really bad with pothholes during rainy season (June-October). By November PWD completes rebuilding the roads, only to happen the same next year. So it depends when you come to Kerala.
Ironically I thought Bengaluru and Chennai have good infrastructure, (still i feel that way).

@Anupdas
Yeah u r right? bangalore roads are much better...but just because of that we are paying hefty tax for the same...I'm working in bangalore while my native place is kunnamkulam...The main pblm in kerala is the polititians dont give contract to outsiders...its a sort of deal...they can make money if they give it to local contractors...the contractors are asked to pay some hefty amount to them to get the contract...once that is given they fall short of money & so give us some substandard roads (which wont stay long), so that next time they can again ask for contract...this happens everytime..the best example is sabarimala road...if they had given the contract to some Malaysian company atleast the road would have stayed for some 2-3 years....---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, i'll try the 2.5 turn setting and see.Originally posted by Anupdas View PostI don't think warranty will be void if we skip the service, if its so my warranty is long gone.
For 5 times in a row I got mileage above 58 Kmpl in city conditions with a pillion of 100kg ( me 75) most of the time
. It seems really unbelievable as before tuning I was getting just over 50. All values noted from R2R method, with a filing worth 100 rs each time.
Just by tightening the chain, changing oil and properly inflating tires mileage increased(by 4 Kmpl).
Yeah the rpm does vary. On setting idle rpm to 3000 and closing the reed valve the rpm decreased to around 2000 rpm. After 2 complete turns the rpm increase was gradual. Try 2.5, this has returned my best ever mileage figures. In ECO mode, I never made the light blink, with this setting Im positive that it will cross 65 if ridden in high way.
Btw, another new thing i noticed in my bike, chain seems to have become loose, i can hear the sound of chain banging into the chain cover during bumps, first time i'm noticing this problem in my bike in the 6000kms that its run.
May be thats causing mileage drop from 50 to 47 too.
And since its only been like 250km since i gave my bike for last service, i guess those mechs at the SC never tightened the chain during last service too.
And btw, the roads are pretty good in b'lore. only prob is the occasional pothole that is hard to predict and you end up going in it at 40km/h,
and the traffic and signals are the worst part..
I was really happy after reading your post, but then i checked my manual, the first 2 points about "conditions for warranty" state that all 6 free services and 9 paid services much be availed as per schedule to get warranty.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostFor availing warranty, it is mandatory to claim all free services, paid services are optional.

Loose chain and tire pressure does affect mileage, as I earlier mentioned after adjusting both there was an increase of 4 Kmpl. In week ends you can open the chain cover and see if the chain is lubricated. I still lube chain every month. The lower chain cover is prone to rust, keep an eye on it. You will need just 10- 12 spanner provided in tool kit to open the cover.Originally posted by thefalcon View PostOk, i'll try the 2.5 turn setting and see.

Looking forward to your feed back about tuning. To check mileage, keep engine between 4-4.5K
and check for at least 2 litres to get comparatively accurate value.

occasional pothole is an understatement bro.....more like occasional cratersOriginally posted by thefalcon View PostAnd btw, the roads are pretty good in b'lore. only prob is the occasional pothole that is hard to predict and you end up going in it at 40km/h,

Some roads are excellent while most others have many potholes throughout the year and if not potholes then shit lot of un-evenness, unnecessary humps and those stupid concrete dividers which are not even maintained properly.
Best road Ive ridden in bangalore is the ring road flyover between magadi road and tumkur road.
@msn1: ok. Ive had it tuned by SC 2-3 times now. Maybe its time I did it myself.
+checked mileage in morning....even after 2 SC tunings, mileage is around 40.....r2r, no false re4serve.
++ in hindsight, is there any reason why some mechs recommend not tuning carb till 2k kms or 2nd service? my SC mechanic told me the same thing but I insisted on tuning.
@anupdas: had been to kerala last year during monsoon. Traveled in and around guruvayur and I have to say I havent seen better roads anywhere else in my humble experienc3.
+ had a ride in the morning.....took it upto 80+ kmph a couple of times at around 6-7k rpm. I could feel some vibrations at that speed but not too much.Last edited by 2strokerama; 12-21-2010, 10:02 AM.

@ Ram
I dont feel there is much difference if we tune before 2K or not
. But I asked for tuning only after 4K as I was getting decent mileage. For the 2K km one is expected to get familiarized with the bike and find a way to ride to get maximum mileage.
Roads are not that bad here, but as you mentioned some roads are good and some are really bad. If you are not familiar with a road you will never know what will happen. There has been many instances where people planted "Banana tree" , erected boards"Today me, Tomorrow you" etc in the craters.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

if you aren't crossed 2k on odo then set back the carb to factory defaultsOriginally posted by 2strokerama View Post

.
golden screw 2.5 turns (two and half turns from fully closed position)
idle screw settings: the warm idle close to 1200 or 1300 RPM thus u will get somewhere around 1000 or 1100 RPM in cold
ride the bike for 10 kms before adjusting
best of luck
over to Anup on giving further detailed explanation on reverting back to factory settingsSarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Thanks for your trust in me bro, but I feel we are forcing others to tune the carburetor
.
Having done adjustments for half a dozen, I think its not that difficult to tune your bike. I have seen local mechs tuning bikes even without a help of tacho. They just listen to the exhaust note and engine rhythm.
S.C mechs tune bike by CO analyzer and high precision tachometer. They make engine run at a specific rpm then adjust the air-fuel screw, monitor the CO level in the exhaust gas to get the factory recommended setting. But unfortunately this method didn't do much help to me. Thats the time when I decided to tune the bike. First tries didn't give much results, by trial and error method finally I got a point which gives mileage and power.
If anyone is trying to tune their bike, they should first note their initial factory setting. Be cool while tuning, I panicked when I tuned for first time and really messed counting the turns.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

why? any specific reason that you know of? or just biking myth\superstition? \:|if you aren't crossed 2k on odo then set back the carb to factory defaults
+I dont know my factory setting. SC tuned it first time and they said nothing about reverting it in case of probs. I hope 2.5 turns is universal over all gs150s. But even then, Id prefer to go ahead with tuning itmyself.
Hahaha. lol. up here we just curse our local corporator and our bad luck. There has been many instances where people planted "Banana tree" , erected boards"Today me, Tomorrow you" etc in the craters.Last edited by 2strokerama; 12-21-2010, 12:59 PM.
