    • I'm not saying you are a bad driver. But with long wheel base and 6 gears it takes some time to be one with our bike. As you keep on driving you will get know when to shift or not . I would suggest to drive with a pillion. Try to shift so that the pillion don't sway

The moment when one think they have learned enough it will stop. So drive like you are riding for the first time.

      • Guys,
Important question, my bike has warranty till august 2011, and my 10th service(paid) will be due in 3 days..
I'm wondering whether to continue giving it to suzuki SC for servicing till warranty ends or chuck it (and chuck warranty too in the process) and find a good local mech.
Because since last 3 services i've been telling them to tune the bike properly, but my mileage hasnt crossed 48 in the last 6-8 months(even with sane riding, before i used to get 52-53), with avg mileage around 46.

Another reason why i dont want to give my bike to SC is because i rode like 300km since the last service and my odo reading is 6500 now.
Any suggestions as to what is better to do ??

Also, i have some really funny observation with my GS.
Last time i filled shell petrol, rode carefully not exceeding 4.5k mark and all, and got a mileage of 42. I was praying that it was a false reserve and everything because 42 was too less, but mileage was 42 and reserve was real the first time only.

Anyway, this time i filled BP petrol, and assumed my tuning was bad anyway and ripped like crazy, staying above 6k half the time, lots of sudden braking etc etc. i got one reserve, put it to reserve and back to main and rode 20km, and now its come to reserve again(should check if this was also false or real tomo), but my mileage till now is 47.

Does this mean rash riding=more mileage in GS or something ?? (atleast in power mode, coz i put my bike in power mode during these last 2 calculations)

        • This had occurred to me, but riding was similar in both cases . But mileage was different. Sometimes we hit reserve earlier than expected and the next one gives a high value. This may only happen if the earlier reserve is false.

I think you can skip the service if you hardly run the bike. Its just a waste of money. Nothing is going to happen to our bike and don't worry about warranty.

After hike in petrol prices, I have decided to run bike for mileage( A rupee per kilometer). Tuned and is giving 60+ mileage (2.5 turns). Since ours are 2009 model, I think it works for you as well. Note your current tuning mark and run on this setting(2.75 gives a good punch at expense of 4 Kmpl).

Ok, but warranty does get void when i dont give for servicing right ??

And 60kmpl ?? you serious.. if i get 52 also i'll be really happy, in bangalore we cant really expect goos mileage with the signals and traffic jams.

I guess i could try tuning again, but i'm pretty skeptical about getting better figures with DIY tuning, my idle rpm never really reaches that staying constant phase, there's always little variations at all settings, and the increase/decrease in rpm by turning the screw also is very small, say 500 rpm increase from full closed position to 2.75 turns.. (thats like rpm going from 1000 to 1500)

Is i the same when you tune it too ??

            • I don't think warranty will be void if we skip the service, if its so my warranty is long gone.

For 5 times in a row I got mileage above 58 Kmpl in city conditions with a pillion of 100kg ( me 75) most of the time . It seems really unbelievable as before tuning I was getting just over 50. All values noted from R2R method, with a filing worth 100 rs each time.

Just by tightening the chain, changing oil and properly inflating tires mileage increased(by 4 Kmpl).

Yeah the rpm does vary. On setting idle rpm to 3000 and closing the reed valve the rpm decreased to around 2000 rpm. After 2 complete turns the rpm increase was gradual. Try 2.5, this has returned my best ever mileage figures. In ECO mode, I never made the light blink, with this setting Im positive that it will cross 65 if ridden in high way.

                • For availing warranty, it is mandatory to claim all free services, paid services are optional.

                  • hey guys, help me out, the service center just sucks in our city, I went on Friday, they said, their staff is on leave coz of Muharram, then I went on Saturday, at 2pm, they said "Come Early, before 12, and sunday will b a holiday" then I went today at 11am, they said "Not possible today as there already are many vehicles", and then I lose my temper and shouted at him like some crazy guy and everyone else become spectators, then he got somewhat frightened and made a slip for tomorrow and also forgot to mention, I did some burnout on the newly tiled floor of the service center to turn my bike 180 degree as there was not much space to take proper turn, so I am feeling like he's gonna take revenge on my bike tomorrow, what should I do??
where should I complaint about such delays of the service centers of Suzuki??
and can I get my bike serviced from local mechanics terminating the warranty as "TheFalcon" is saying to do (its almost gonna end its warranty period in a month or two, as its driven 28k and warranty is till 30k)??

Again this depends up on the dealer its his decision, but most of them are adjusting with the customer, but on a tight situation where your claim may bite there pocket they wont agree

thus don't take it as granted so always go as per your GS manual and give it to service on time.

regarding the mileage their are many factors deciding it
one of those is the petrol bunk petrol quantity and quality

if anup gets good mileage at 2.5 turns means its the best setting for his bike as per his driving style and driving environment (he is in gods own country where almost no railway gates and roads and traffic conditions are good in comparison to Bangalore or chennai )

even my SC is run by and 95 % of the SVC engineers are Muslims and i did faced the same issue as sc closes early during ramzan fasting days as they need to leave early i didn't taken it bad, as my heart respects the way they celebrate the occasion and did appreciated the way they respected human and their religious believes, i did reached next day morning to take delivery

yes most of the SC not only suzuki are tend to not take bike for service after 11 am and it happened once for me and they said i can take back the bike only by next day noon or evening. from that time onwards i used to call and confirm with them before doing so

instead of all this mess just call and confirm before you go

Instead of shouting there you can express your thoughts/inputs at suzuki website (i said thoughts/inputs not feelings coz feelings contains all bad words thus it made any one ignore your request )

no dealer will go fast and rude to say you have to come on 6th jan and now its 8th jan; lesser kms or crossed by few days they will adjust if you missed the service by more than or close to 1 month some times dealer will do the 5th service instead of 4th.

read your bike manual carefully and then decide local mechanic or A S S

Well that day I didn't said a word, I just asked him if I can get my bike tomorrow, he said, yes, you can come, but then he said I was late the next day as you said, they don't take after 11am, but I told him that I go to college everyday, so I can't come before 12 so he agreed he'll accept my bike for servicing on Monday at 12, still somehow I got free early so returned at 10:30 and reached SC at 10:50am, still he didn't took my bike, thats when I lose my temper, because it was the third day, and I was on time and still he was f****** with me.....
about calling them, he never picks up the phone, if he would, then I wouldn't have driven 10 km each day just to listen come back tomorrow

its not like a few kms or days, I am saying my bike has driven almost 28,000 kms and warranty is till first 30,000 kms I guess...

in that case make sure even if you drive a lot the speedo should not cross 30 k till 2 yrs (in our thread earlier some one did mentioned on how to stop odo as well as speedo please check and try that)

but normally no need to do like that because GS is not a troublesome guy even if its a rare faulty piece it will show it out with in the initial 10k, if ill be in your place would opt for a reliable local mechanic instead of the begging with the sick SVC guys

it appears to be a symptom of running too lean mixture ask svc to tune the carb
