He heard my problem patiently and told me that he will talk to the sc for inspection and if they found rusting after cleaning with cloth, then suzuki will REPLACE the tank with new one. After 10 mins, I received a call from sc REQUESTING me to come there for inspection . So, I went today to their sc, the supervisor(same person who was telling that it was normal and giving me lame excuses), took a cloth and rubbed the mouth of tank. He found heavy rust on the cloth and after cleaning also rust was clearly visible. For the first time that beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep out of nowhere accepted the rusting. Took some snaps of it (to mail to Vikramji) and told me that my bike's tank will be replaced and was asking me to leave the bike. So my fellow gspians, just use the suzuki website for complaint. It works.

The URL of the same is: Suzuki Motorcycle Corporate Office

I will leave my bike at SC on monday. I will update as my fuel tank gets replaced.

Thanx Falcon and all fellow gspians.
    xbhp rocks!
    Congrats on your new tank.
btw, is your bike the 2009 model or 2010 model ??

Try 3M wax liquid. I found it to be good, and you dont have to scrub it a lot since its wax liquid too.

      its 2010.
I purchased it on last year's Ganesh Chaturthi i.e. 11th september.

Earlier, I was experiencing too many problems. Now, SC has rectified all but the mileage. It has reduced to 38 km/ltr from 42 km/ltr after the mechanic adjusted its tunning.

I think I should complaint about the mileage too to the Suzuki. what u think?

            • I got my GS yesterday morning.

On Wednesday I've made all the payments for my GS and they told me that I can collect my bike at evening of next day(27th January). As Thurdays planets as per astrology is not good, I called them by evening of 27th January and told that I'll be collecting it in the next day morning (9:00AM is the SC opening time). I have also mentioned that I need it on time as I've to drive it for 1hr to reach my RTO to do the registration process.
Next day I reached there on time. They told that the bike will be ready in 10-15 mins. Me and my Bro waited for 2hours to get my bike @11:00AM.

When we started our Journey to my native place I've noticed that the Engine is getting raised even in neutral gear position. Then I called the SC guy and he told that it is due to a high SlowRun setting. As per his instruction I adjusted the slowrun and the problem got solved. But still I can feel a high temp from the engine. Till now I've covered around 150-160KMs

Other than this engine heating everything is smooth.

I dont think Suzuki india would be able to help you out much on this one.
Try to find a good mechanic to tune your carb, i guess any local mech also will do because all 150cc bikes have the same carb mikuni BS26 and tuning is just adjusting a fuel screw and an air screw.

The best way to prevent it is keeping the tank full with fuel. Most of the bike owners are buying small quantity of petrol, that too after reaching the ‘reserve’.

However, as you do not own any bike presently, why are you wandering here? Go to your room and STUDY.
Well, applying a thin film of oil on the inside of the fuel tank would surely help prevent the rust from forming, but i'm not sure what would happen if it gets mixed with the fuel.

Anyway, keeping a full tank doesn't seem like a very good idea.
Firstly, carrying all that fuel would reduce the mileage and pick up, may be just a little but it would reduce anyways.
And secondly, i dont think many people would want to spend 800 bucks to fill the tank the first time.
Lastly, the is always the added risk of crashing, with a full tank of fuel it would be dangerous.

@Joe85: I have no idea what a slowrun setting is, i'm pretty sure you left the choke on. :P happened to me also once and i realized it after riding 8kms with the choke.

Yeah I got one bottle of 3M, its really simple and gives a good gloss.

Washed bike with a car wash, allowed to dry and applied the polish uniformily and then used another dry cloth to polish. Works just like shoe polish.

                  • Hi GSians...

I have been riding Honda Activa for 4 years. I have caught back pain because of riding it. So, I am planning to buy a new bike and after looking many reviews in the internet I have decided to go for Suzuki GS150R. I am a 6 footer. My primary needs are riding comfort, adequate performance and good mileage. I like the Unicorn but nowadays it is too common and it has got almost 1 year waiting period !

People are telling me not to go for Suzuki, they are not good blah blah kind of things But I have told them whatever they say, it will be GS. But I am a little worried about the tank rusting problem.

                    Dear GSians... please help me

                    • @ Nikith

The tank rusting problem was found in initial batches of the bike. The 2010 version don't have that issue, if you go through the forum you will get a better idea. If you have decided to go for GS, go for it. Keralites only trust Hero Honda, even when they are charging premium.

Even now people are asking me why Suzuki and I would give a smile back to them. They all are just hearing, but not really listening people.

                      • Thank you bro... for your fast and valuable reply

As you have mentioned, everyone is telling me to go for Hero Honda or Honda. I asked them what is the problem with Suzuki... Bikes like the Busa and the Bandit are made by the same Suzuki.

I have gone through the forum (though not completely). That is why I have posted here.

I will book GS as soon as I get my Activa sold

Reduce the engine rpm to 1300-1500 as described in page 6-24 of the user’s manual. Ensure that the brakes are free. Check the pressure of both tyres and test the mileage using 200-300 ml of petrol in a can, which is available in the workshop. Drive freely - without partial braking - and let us know the result. Before that, don’t forget to adjust the chain slackness and to lubricate it. In addition, check the air filter and carburetor plug and clean or replace those.

Suzuki is prohibiting or discouraging engine tuning. (Page 6-24, ibid). Who is this tuner mechanic, who is cleverer than the engineers who designed this bike? Suppose what will have been his position, if he was born in Japan and Suzuki came to notice him.

For all of us or at least for most of us, a bike is a dream for a long period and we buy it spending our extremely hard-earned money. Such a thing is not a toy to modify as per the opinion of a foolish mechanic or anyone else. And remember that most of this advisors do not do the same on their bike. They are advisors only. Advising is the easiest thing one can do in this world. It needs no capital investment and there for no possibility of any loss. Beware of them.

Try to avoid repeated complaining to Suzuki as they may consider you as a nuisance and may not listen to you. This has happened to some of our GS owners.

If you don’t mind, please tell me, what actually happened to the planets yesterday and how it was solved in the next day itself. Hope it was nothing serious. Asked about it because if any of it moves slightly apart, that will be the end of this universe or atleast the milky way in which we are part of. Don’t misunderstand me. The Indian villagers never get exact news. Their condition is worser than the British rule.

What the service centre mechanic asked you is to reduce the engine rpm. Further adjust to to 1200-1400, when the engine is hot after riding some 5 or more kms.

There are many reasons for the engine heatting. Not only the engine, but also the swing arm, chain, sprockets, back wheel spocks and back tyre are heatting. Anyway, it is not peculiar to your bike. It is common in every bikes and there for no need to botherate.

Everything is normal in your bike. Your anxiety is normal and it will diminish in a few days. And never try to do anything as per others advice. Whenever you are in need, aproach the service centre; not a local mechanic as most of whom know nothing exept hammering.
