  • Hello.. I m the new member to GS150R club I finally got my GS150R yesterday. The color is bluish green. However, few things I would like to ask.
    1. The bike's suspension is weird. I mean, its not "shock absorber" whenever we go on a hump or pothole, the bike is supposed to minimize the jump but this one doesn't. Its like a spring, its like you compress it when there is a pothole or hump and release when it goes over it and you jump up. Its sort of displeasure when you ride on uneven roads. What level have you people kept the suspension? My settings are at 3.
    2. When returning from showroom my cousin drove the bike since I was a newbie and not had enough practice of driving in main road. He was crazy !! He reached speeds upto 75kmph and that too at 6000 rpm !! Most of the time he was at 45-55kmph at about 4500 rpm though. Do you think its going to affect the mileage in future?? I will always drive around 45 below 4500rpm.
    3. Front brakes are more sensitive compared to brakes near engine (I dont know what its called). How come ?
4.What are the exact steps to measure mileage ? What do you mean by reserve-to-reserve ??

Some say there are vibrations at around 3500rpm but I did not feel anything different from any other bike in that category. But I like the sound, acceleration and pickup. Please reply..

    Thank you.

      Congrats Kumar!

      Your answers:
      1. Bike's suspension will get better with time. Let it be at factory settings for time being.
2.Don't worry, riding a heated up machine at speed doesn't harm the engine. In fact, that may be the best thing for your bike . Besides, At 4500rpm, you will be at around 60 or more KMPH.
3.THat's true. This is known trait of GS150R, front brakes better than rear. And this is not just because front ones are disc brakes, but rather the rear ones are poorly set. However, some members reported that getting it adjusted at service center helps a lot.
4.There are two settings for fuel knob, one is ON (6'o clock position on the fuel knob) and one is reserve (12'o clock position). Whenever the bike is shifted to reserve, start the tripmeter, and fill some 100rs petrol (or precisely 2 liters petrol), and swich the fuel knob to ON. Now, the next time you have to shift to reserve, it indicates you have burnt 100rs/2liters of petrol, and you know the kms run by the tripmeter. Say you have gone 100kms before hitting reserve after the last fill. SO your mileage is either 100kms/100rs = 1km per rupee, or 100km/2lit = 50 kmpl.

Hope the above calculations are understandable

The vibrations are precisely at 3500rpm. The whole bike shakes at just that level. Surprising that you couldn't feel it!

@abhi_gsr: Thanks for the directions buddy. That statue you mentioned is Karve Putla. If you take left from there and ride some kms ahead towards Warje, you will reach Kothrud Suzuki! I am going there today, so maybe will get the wheels coated if got time.

        1. You can change the suspension settings as per your comfort buddy. I am still with the default setting

        2. 6000rpm is too much for a new bike. Try to keep it below 5k atleast until the first service. Dont drive at constant rpm.Shoe some variations. Set the speedo to 'eco' mode.

        3. The brakes near engine is called rear brakes. Be careful with the front disc brakes as your are a newbie. Use both the brakes for braking. Since the front is a disc brake its more sensitive when compared to the rear ones

        4. When your bike gets into reserve, fill 1liter of petrol and set the trip meter in digital console. Now ride the bike until it gets into reserve. Now the kilometers registered in your trip is the mileage. For trip settings refer the manual

Man. Keep your bike cool until the 1st service. Since your a newbie be careful with your new bike and congrats on your new ride. Keep in touch with xbhp for your queries

                • Hello all,
I just had a ride in the highway this weekend to a place 40 kms from chennai. Just wanna share the experience.
                  1. Started at around 4:45 am. Had some time idling to warm up the engine
                  2. Kept the rpm range at around 4.5K for 5-7 kms... Tried to raise the rpm to 5.5K and was touching 70Kmph. Felt some sound in the engine as i began to open the throttle more and more.
                  3. There was a point of time when I tried to cross 6Krpm and touched 85Kmph, the engine was crying?? roaring?? I dont know how to say but the noise it produced was too much worrying for me. At that point of time I had a doubt if this could cross 100KMPH ever. Also I did feel some vibrations in the leg rest. BTW I also had a pillion rider at that time[does this matter ?].
                  4. Felt little bit of engine choking. There was no reply to engine choking problem posted by Alkemyst and myself earlier. Anyone???
                  5. I was returning the next day evening and did not cross 65Kmph as there were too much traffic.

These were the observations. After that trip, I felt better touching 70Kmph without that sound.

Now My bike has crossed 1000 kms in the odo[first service done at 500Kms]; and am planning to take it to my home town about 130 Kms from chennai this weekend. I would appreciate sugestions and advices on how to ride and the limits to watch out for. I would be travelling early in the morning[at around 5 am], so please keep in mind that my engine will have a cold start.

                  @ Radium Stickers
WOW!!! It was cool to see those radium stickers in the pic. Anyone knows any shop in chennai where we could get those???? Sivakumar, bubbly,??

Sam9s was asking about the count of GS owners in XBHP, any info on that ???

                    Hey Guys,

Here are the Pics of the Radium Stickering Work done on my GSR.
Was a bit Gloomy Outside, No Sunshine. Have tried my Best to click Pics from the Best Angle so that they appear Bright.
Have clicked some Pics in a closed enclosure to showcase the Radium Effect.

                    Any Comments are Welcome.

Another Query i had is that whenever i attach Pics, they get uploaded as Thumbnails and not the Actual Size Pics. You have to click on them to enlarge them. Is there any different way to upload the Actual Size Pics?

Looks cool man !! Waiting to know if there are any shops in chennai. Not sure about the thumbnail stuff. I think a direct copy paste in the editor could make it; not tried it so far. there should be some one who can help

                      • @Augustine09: Open her up slowly, now that you have crossed the 1000km.mark!

@abhi_gsr: If the size is more than the allowed size, it will show up as thumbnails. If you want to post the actual pic, you need to resize it using a software. There is a thread for uploading pics on xBhp, it may help you. I don't bother-I just upload thumbnails.

Thats what I asked.. I will always drive below 4500rpm and below 45kmph. What I m asking is, will it affect the mileage in future since its driven around 6000rpm ONCE ?

This is where I m confused. Consider you drive till it gets to reserve initially. Now you shift to reserve and consider I travel about 4kms for petrol bunk in reserve. Now I refill and shift to main. What I want to know is since 4kms was traveled in reserve some part of fuel we refill goes to reserve and remaining goes to main. Isn't it? How to find out how much portion goes to reserve?

well i don't think so,but then y to take any risk at the first place

then the best way is full tank method

1.fill in ur tank to the brim
2.set the trip meter to zero
3.drive for as long as u can say till almost the vehicle comes to reserve
(not necessarily but the longer u'd drive the least would be the error)
4.the next time u visit a petrol bunk fill it again to the brim
5.notice how much petrol is needed for a tank full
6.this amount of petrol and your trip meter would give you your answer

                            for eg.:

now u have a tank full
u visit to the petrol bunk at say when your trip m. says 500km
and your vehicle now takes in say 10lt for tankfull

so it means it has consumed 10lt petrol to cover 500km

                            which gives: 500 km/10 lt = 50 kmpl

                            hope u get this one!!!

                            • @kumar: Suppose you hit reserve, and set the tripmeter to 0kms. Then even if after 30kms you add 1 liter to move back to ON position, the filled one liter has already compensated the burnt petrol for those 30kms. So you just need to watch when the bike hits Reserve once again, and that's your mileage on the tripmeter!

The logic is you want to find out how much the bike travels in given petrol, and the only two ways are RESERVE to RESERVE and EMPTY to EMPTY! Take your pick

@gokul: With such huge tank, you have to cover up almost 600-700kms to go from full to reserve. It is advisable when you ride to large distances, but else in city, this 1 liter/ 2 liter method gives fair accuracy.
