Do you think it's better to invest for a 9AH battery(say Amaron) to handle the increased full-DC charge/discharge rate?

The stock battery can very well handle full dc with 35 w hid and 55w halogen.....
A word of caution to those who wish to fit a 55 w halogen...the stock reflector can't handle the heat generated......

Yes. Go for it. Just be kind on the battery and use your starter sporadically, as it pulls max current from the battery.Originally posted by SparKot View PostThank you, that's very insightful.
Do you think going for 35W 4000k-4300k HID with projector post Full-DC conversion is a good idea?
Not worth it. The stock battery works perfect.Originally posted by SparKot View PostAnother quick question:

Energy Conservation question
Post DC conversion:
If we go with 35W HID(or Stock Halogen) instead of 55W Halogen then we're saving 20W of Energy. But how?
- Isn't the AC generated from Stator Coil always same (ignoring RPMs)?
- Who decides the rate of charging? (keeping voltage stable and current varrying)... It's the battery I guess...
All in all, we're not saving any energy(Gasoline/Petrol) when we go with 35W HID instead of 55W Halogen. We're only limiting the rate of charge/discharge from Battery. Did I get it right?

Hids consume less power than halogens....they only consume high power during startup....but as soon as they are fully glowing they draw less power.....whereas halogens draw same power throughout....hope this helps ...Originally posted by SparKot View PostPost DC conversion:

Ok, Stock battery it is then.Originally posted by animeher View PostYes. Go for it. Just be kind on the battery and use your starter sporadically, as it pulls max current from the battery.
Not worth it. The stock battery works perfect.
- will kick start in the morning and evening/night.
- will only use electric starts during day-time except morning (kick-start).
What's the current drawn by Electric starter?
what do you suggest when we wait @traffic-signals during night?
- switch off engine and kick start on green
or
- switch off only HID and keep engine in idle
or
any other method
PS: I'm the guy who was struggling to handle GS150R in 1st gear uphill @traffic signal during Jan-2011. Please bear with me for all those annoying questions.Last edited by SparKot; 01-31-2012, 03:12 PM.There is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa

nitrogen is good for those who are too busy enough and have no time to check air atleast monthly once.Originally posted by sathya23 View PostHi,
Can anyone advice on the use of nitorgen instead of air in tyres. Which is better?
Thanks in Advance!
for the rest its a costly gas than the air.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

If you rewind the coil correctly and replace the RR with that of Ape, the output will surely be enough to connect a 55 watt bulb even if you ride continuously for hours in the night with the stock 7 AH battery.Originally posted by SparKot View PostDo you think it's better to invest for a 9AH battery(say Amaron) to handle the increased full-DC charge/discharge rate?
But I am using 55 watts Osram NB for about 23 months, before and after converting the bike to full DC. The reflector is perfectly OK.Originally posted by Maestro View PostA word of caution to those who wish to fit a 55 w halogen...the stock reflector can't handle the heat generated......

Because the HID consumes 35 watts after a few minutes of switching on. With the HID and 35 watts bulb, the consumption is lesser by about 20 watts than the 55 watts bulb.Originally posted by SparKot View PostPost DC conversion:

The AC generated by the stator coil varies depending the engine RPM but the DC output from the RR remains almost the same if the winding is having enough turns.Originally posted by SparKot View PostIsn't the AC generated from Stator Coil always same (ignoring RPMs)?
The load in the circuit. The battery gets charged in the same rate it is discharged if the winding and connections are proper.Originally posted by SparKot View PostWho decides the rate of charging? (keeping voltage stable and current varrying)... It's the battery I guess.
Yes. But changing the bike to full DC is not to save fuel but to use a brighter headlight. So, if you are interested in it, go on without bothering about the results. It will not affect the performance or longevity of your bike.Originally posted by SparKot View PostAll in all, we're not saving any energy(Gasoline/Petrol) when we go with 35W HID instead of 55W Halogen. The first things I have done after buying the bike were removing the kick start lever and replacing the headlight bulb with 55 watts Osram NB.Originally posted by SparKot View PostOk, Stock battery it is then.

Still, after the full DC conversion, I am not using the kick starter to start the bike even in the coldest mornings.
So you can remove it and use the electric starter to start the bike at any time, even after keeping the bike idle for 3 or 4 days.
I don’t know correctly but why are anxious about the electric starter? A number of bikes, especially the higher cc ones, are not provided with it. If the battery is perfect, you can use the electric starter itself.Originally posted by SparKot View PostWhat's the current drawn by Electric starter?
Switch off headlight if you are switching off the engine and use the electric starter to start it again. Otherwise, you can keep the headlight on if the engine is running as the battery is getting recharged at that time.Originally posted by SparKot View Postwhat do you suggest when we wait @traffic-signals during night?

But it was a year ago. And trying to clear doubts is not annoying. Annoying is entirely different.Originally posted by SparKot View PostPS: I'm the guy who was struggling to handle GS150R in 1st gear uphill @traffic signal during Jan-2011.

Buying new bike, advice needed
Hi guys,
I am going to buy a new GS150R in Pune, can anyone suggest me from which dealer I should buy and what are the things I should look for while buying it.
My first GS150R was second hand bike, and I love its performance and looks. Thats why I'm going for a second one also, but as I've never bought a bike myself, I need your expert advice on this.
Also what are the paper works required to buy the bike, and does any dealer gives 0% finance on this bike?

No cold starts for me too.. Bike starts easily with one gentle push of the ES button.. Though I've to open the throttle for a while to keep the idle...

1. Check for scratches and dents. Do not accept bike with faulty parts even if you are promised a later replacement.Originally posted by Gagan0123 View PostI am going to buy a new GS150R in Pune, can anyone suggest me from which dealer I should buy and what are the things I should look for while buying it.

2. Be sure that the side panels are correctly fitted.
3. Try to buy the bike on the day it reaches the showroom. Otherwise, select one in which engine oil is not already filled.
The new GS is with modified gear ratios which gives better pickup. The headlight visor and visor nuts are different and the bike is free from vibration due to misaligned visor nuts. Fuel tank is antirust Teflon coated.
The dealers are not financing but they will surely help you to get a loan but try to avoid it.
All the best.

Twist the accelerator grip slightly and hold it there before starting the bike to maintain a little higher cold rpm while the engine starts as Magesh
Thanks and you are most welcome.Originally posted by SparKot View PostNow I can see things clutter free. Will be in touch for more details.
