Remembering i was complaining about the engine roughness
Last monday, i had given my bike to SMK Porur, Chennai; and insisted a lot to change the bore n piston...
I too faced the issue that the bike struggling too much, making noises only and a very bad mileage.... Tried tuning the carb a hell a lot of times, absolutely no use at all....

As usual Mr. Kalyan (SC head) was at my service... He had the bike for five days...
After the service, he said that the Carburetor was changed and said the engine is Ok....
He explained that the carb has got electronic sensors (maybe TPS)...
This time in spite of messing up with the carb, he just changed it to a new one and went for a mileage test... his result was 12.1km for a 200ml test = 65kmpl... The he again tried the same with the old carb and found that the result was too bad
He accepted the fact that some things in the carb are beyond their limit, so went ahead replacing under warranty without wasting time...
He replace my break lever too (Since i told him that my fingers are blackening due to bad quality paint on it) Even he agreed that if i further find any increase in noise, he is there to help me out...
Whatever problems I had, Man, this is the Best Service One can Ever Get.

When i rode back home, i too find that the bike is free revving...
Regarding mileage, i'll post u guys updated....

    Now.... About the engine noise.....
I was given a standby bike during this course, oh myyyyy, it was very very noisy, in fact i was not even able to judge the engine stroke
Mr. Kalyan told me that, that is the real defect (bore piston) and my bike is just fine... Maybe for the service which he gives me, i should have to consider his words
About the split personality behavior, i didn't get a convincing answer yet..
Will ride tomorrow and let u all know...
End of the day I realize, a faulty carb can really "Drive U Crazy"
So the culprit is the carb hmmmm

our carb is typical different one

So the carb drive u crazy next is what move up rite

    @ Mastro

thanks for the heads up man ill checkout the osram

Actually, I had mileage issue from the beginning, But power n pickup had no issued... During the service camp in chennai, mileage was not corrected on the 1st day.... So they asked me to get it to ABT (3rd day)... There they swapped the carb from an existing vehicle(maybe they did it with a good intention, but things went unfortunate)... They didn't inform be about it that time...
Then next day, i noticed that it was changed and was looking old and had lot of stains on it (corrosion).. Then only they revealed the fact that it has been changed... After that pick-up became worse and mileage dropped further
Since then everything went wrong with my bike, now the culprit has been found

I had filled about 5.8ltr of fuel and ran 320 Kms when the bike started showing signs of coming to reserve i switched to reserve for 2 minutes then back to On Position did 30 Kms until it finally came to reserve position at 350 kms which translates for more than 60KMPL after the SVC tuned my carb.
guys i think carb and other things holds more fuel even if you turn off the knob it will go around 20km(150-200ml). in my opinion R to R will only shows ture(may be not) fuel consumption.
so best way to find fuel consumption is using 200ml can which is used by svc guys.

            • Guys, I'm thinking of buying a GS150. I'm interested in touring (though a beginner as yet).
I'm thinking of doing Ladakh a couple of times, the rest are going to be open highway tours.

Should I buy this, or go for a second hand Karizma?

the difficulty in riding in traffic is mainly due to unbalanced and very heavy handlebar character and partly due to its weight and average low end power band.
Saru try bringing down the stock handle a bit, loosen four screws and bring it toward you and try to ur comfort how much down u can bring it..it will help a lot to get control of bike especially going over pot holes or speed bumps and handling traffic in city...i am 5 11 and for me the stock position was bit high..Now its very comfortable..

As a guide there is a dimple on the handlebar on the right side where it meets the aluminium black clamps it holds..make sure the dimple is below the level of the line where the upper n lower clamps meet..that is a good way to know how far down u wan to go..

ideal position for handlebar of our style is vertical angle should be inline with the fork tubes or a bit inside (towards rider) for maximum feedback and comfort

The carb holds 27 ml of fuel, and if you turn off the knob, it goes about 1-1.2kms. and this is another method to calculate mileage actually, i try it once in a while.

                      @MSN1:
I filled 350 bucks of fuel. got a F2005 model car. Its really worth it. Till when is this offer valid. i really want to collect all the 6 cars. i guess with GS tank, i could collect 3 or 4 easily.
