  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

Completed 2000 Kms in 3 months. The bike feels very nice and refined. Every time I fuel up I reset one of the trip-meter to calculate mileage. Every time I get around 52KMPL driving in mixed conditions with terrible traffic of old Delhi and the smooth and free ring road. Facing only two problems

    1. I try to kick start the bike in the morning as advised by the ASC. But kick start is a pain as I have to kick many times even with choke. Sometimes I give up after 10-15 kicks and use self start which turns up the bike immediately. Idle RPM in cold engine is just below 1K mark and after driving for a while will be above 1K and below 1100 mark. (any advises for kick starting is also welcome as I am not habituated to using Kick start too frequently).

    2. Getting to neutral is very difficult from 1st gear. When I push it up very lightly it will be in 2 gear then i have to shift down to neutral. Alternatively I have to switch off the engine after which it smoothly shifts to neutral from 1st gear. This problem I am facing from day 1.

Anyone facing these issues or have solutions please advise.

No. It won't. Alteration in wiring voids warranty. Replacing bulbs don't. Also they won't mind this minor modifications

1.I start my bike in 1 kick. Follow the method given in manual. Kick while depressing clutch(pressing lever) for 2-3 times , then kick normally .
2.i have faced this problem but somehow I have learnt to carefully shift.

Not starting with Kick + choke may be issue. See what service center says.
Adjust the RPM to 1.1+ for cold. It's normal.

              A quick question,
At how many km is the second service?
(Ik it should be mentioned in service manual, but due to some reason its not with me, will bring during service)

                      Hornet's tyre: 140/70 - 70
                      Gixxer's tyre: 140/60 - 70

I think we can use it. It just Hornet's tyre outer size is bigger. See this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r17-140-60r17

As per service book it is 6 months or 6000Km whatever comes early.
But I did at 3500/5months. I was feeling little harshness and my first service was at 800Km/1month.

I have done very less km, 2050 km in 7 months.
So i am thinking of considering the km instead of months duration for the service interval.
I hope this approach will be fine.

Nope, You should service whichever comes first. It's in the manual.
Anyway you have to complete your third service by end of 12th month.

My bike has serious starting issues. For three days I let it sleep, and then try to wake it up. Damn machine won't budge even after 15 kicks! Also, how do I operate the choke? I thought it was used to assist cold starting, so I tried starting it by pulling it partially and all the way out; in either case, my bike only became more reluctant to start up than with choke closed

                                Yes, I confirm this issue.
After few days of idle it needs proper warm-up at least a minute other wise it will stop after few 100 meters and you get this issue.
I have faced this issue 3 times.

If you get the issue when not starting even from self start, engage choke for 2 kicks and then kick normally (don't get furious, hard kick won't help) until you get the start. I will take at least 10+ kicks.
