  • Problem with my hornet 160r CBS

    Hey guys,
I am new to XBHP but I have been through all the posts in this thread, its quite awesome and I have learnt many things. I own a hornet CBS and it is 70 days old with 1900 KM ODO reading. Recently my bike started behaving abnormally like some harsh grinding sounds are coming up and even the ride is not as smooth as earlier. I have visited the service stations many times, every time they inspect and take a test ride and give back to me saying there is no problem. I even lubricate my chain at least once in a week, keeping Bangalore rains in mind. I doubt if they have changed the engine oil or not during the service but they charged for it (nearly 800rs). Please suggest me a solution for this issue. Does engine oil also a reason for that noise ?

One more problem is when the roads are dirty all the bike is getting dirty and the pillion rider have to face a lot splash from back tyre. Anyone tried fitting additional mud fenders, if so please suggest me a place here I can get those in Bangalore. Thanks in advance

Don't use wax over any plastic surface, they get white as soon as they get dry and do decoloration on the plastic parts.

There is different kind of polish for the plastic parts. You can use them, they come in spray and rubbing compound form.

Search for dashboard polish, you would get them.

In my first bike I applied wax over the plastic panels and I regret it forever. The decoloration is permanent though they disappear after polish spray, it comes back in few days again.

The way they have given it in the manual is a little confusing. I also initially had that confusion till I figured it out.

This should not be a issue.
It's a open chain, so it will make some noise. But if it too much got to showroom, they will lube it.

              Hey friend,

              I am new to xbhp.
I am going to buy this bike , i have few queries.

              1. Is there any major problem with chain noise? (Many owners in the forum are complaining about this)
              2. I have a trip plan in near future , so can i take the bike for approx 400kms trip before its first service? If yes , please suggest what precautions i should i take during riding.

              Thanks

How do you find the colour blue? Does it attract smudge and dust? Any reason for choosing this colour specifically.. any comments and suggestns would help me in my buy. Thanq

The blue colour is a very dark-ish one, almost black. Found it quite appealing but that's just my personal preference. It hides the dust pretty well from what I've seen so far. Not sure about scratches. You can check it out in the showroom yourself.

                    1. The noise is not the issue. It's gets smoother over time. I felt engine is super smooth now after 2nd service.
                    2. It is advisable to run the bike not harshly during first few hundred kilometers (Let say 40-60) with occasion raving. If you are going for trip I suggest to go after 1st service. Any issue will be addressed in service.

                      Hi,

yes Chain noise is coming if it is getting loosen, we have to tighten the chain for every 500-700 kms.

                          Hi,
About the engine, I think you're experiencing what I faced after first service.
They probably fiddled with the tappet settings and tightened the chain too much during first service. I had the same problem. After setting tappets myself it was much better.

What I noticed is that mechanics get the valve clearances on this newer engine wrong. The older 149cc engine had a valve clearance of 0.12mm at the exhaust side, while in our newer 163cc engine it has to be around 0.20mm (manual recommended is 0.24mm). The tight tappets coupled with tight chain seem to produce the grinding sound (when you leave the accelerator) somehow.

The chain issue will get resolved after first service.
I too had this issue of chain making noise and getting loose frequently but now everything is good.
