  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R - update @ 2,000 kms

So I have hit the 2,000 km mark yesterday on my std Hornet.

This includes a few 200 - 300 km range trips and prolonged rainy rides too.
It's been really trouble free though obviously it's still early to comment on any major issues.

Kick start still is the only major problem I face. However as mentioned before in the thread - i tried a few soft kicks when the bike is off and then it does happen at the third attempt. Starts easily in a single button start though.

Also as recommended - the bike performed great after down shifting to 4th while attempting to gain more speed while overtaking on highways/ steep ghats. Instead of revving at 5th where it lacks outright punch and performs slightly dismally.

Bike is very stable on pure wet roads - not so in partially wet roads. Good braking in panic situations even in absence of CBS. Haven't faced any incident wheel locking or fishtailing/ skidding yet.

It sounds really bassy in the rains even in speeds of 60 kph.

The rear mud guard is surprisingly giving good protection from splashing.

Mileage has settled at a 53 - 58 kpl in a combined riding style in speeds above 55kph which is really good. Touches 60 kpl when ridden very sanely.

As I am munching the miles the engine note and refinement has been improving positively.

Attaching some pictures from my few outskirt rides.

      What is this fuel pump?.
Carb engines don't need fuel pump.
And i think hornet also doesn't have one for sure.

Reserve I think points upwards and on downwards. I remember the manual being wrong in this.

Hello to all my Hornet mates here,
I have booked my White Hornet CBS variant on Sunday and would be getting it soon by this Friday.Extremely excited! And I have been following this thread since a week or so and have covered almost 70% of the posts here.My query might have been asked earlier so pardon me for the same?
I just read somewhere in this thread about Paint Protection FIlm aka PPF.Since I am buying the White one,I surely need to be extra careful and so,I just wanted to know would the Teflon Coating offered suffice or do I need to go for a PPF separately?I do not want a yellowish tinge on my "love" down the years you see! And would applying the PPF void the warranty?I have heard about PPF from 3M guys.Should I go for one?Any suggestions regarding the same?

                Hi,
I am new to xbhp.com and am planning to buy my 1st bike

Mind is oscillating between Gixxer and Hornet

                My priorities are
                1.Performance(Mostly city Riding (ie) 30kmph-60kmph)
                2.Mileage
                3.Durability (Including Less maintenance)
4.Looks (In my personal view Hornet looks better)
5.Handling (Since its city ride most of the time need to face lots of traffic)

I read many where that hornet has pick up issue(Can some one please clarify what is pick up issue!!!!!!)
Is there any vibration issue in hornet (i read some where between 65-80kmph it has and above 100kmph too)

Mainly suggest which is better for city ride.

Ppf is good but costly.for whole tank will be set back by almost 1500 rupees.but tank costs only 1600 rupees.

                    Welcome to xbhp mate.
1.gixxer is better than hornet in low end.
2.mileage will be more or less same for both bikes.
                    3.depends on maintenance
4.hornet for its sheer size , gixxer for its curves.
5.almost on same level but gixxer edges past hornet.
Pickup is not much of an issue if you keep it above 4k rpm

Hola Hornetians! Just booked my Hornet STD Blue colour. Wanted the CBS version but felt more comfortable riding the STD version.
Was impressed by the engine refinement and the soft bassy purr of the engine. Felt the power to be adequate for city rides during the test ride. Can't wait to get it delivered on Saturday as its my father's birthday!

                          Hello Guys,
After raising complaint, someone from Honda checked the bike and identified some issue with carburetor. Honda has replaced the carburetor last Saturday, hope the issue won't come again.

Meanwhile, could anyone explain what is the ideal difference between cold and hot rpm?.

                              Go With your heart !!

                              1) Performance - Gixxer is good in low end but at higher RPM Hornet goes mad.
                              2) Mileage - Gixxer's is 45-50. Hornet will give 55 and above on good hands.
                              3) Durablity - Its a Honda !!
                              4) Looks - Hornet is the indisputably better looking bike. A beefy machine enjoys great road presence.
                              5) Handling - Gixxer trumps here. Hornet is not clumsy either but certainly gixxer is leader here.

If you have company, choose Hornet which has good pillion.
If you are a big built guy. Gixxer will be your last option.

                              Happy Biking !
