Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
You have your opinion. On highways rider like me wants to go fast. But don't you think that despite increase in power & torque over Unicorn 150 it struggles to match Unicorn 150 in case of top speed? Gearing may be different. Duke 200 is more powerful than Karizma.Originally posted by Shashank K R View Post

Most 150cc bikes have their top speed around 115-120 (except R15, CBR150R). Hornet is no different.Originally posted by Anupam Das View PostYou have your opinion. Gearing is definitely different. Hornet is geared taller, and is more relaxed than the 150 at speeds of 85-90 (which I feel is the best cruising speed for a 150cc air cooled engine). If you need higher cruising speeds, then a bigger bike is your only bet.
Increasing power and torque in this case won't lead to a big increase in top speed. It's just that hornet has better acceleration at the mid and top end.
About the Duke and the Karizma, despite their rated power, their top speed is barely 15-20kmph above the hornet's.Last edited by Shashank K R; 03-18-2017, 03:54 PM.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Done with 4th service today at 14060 km. Costed rs. 1134/- for synthetic oil, chain cleaning lubing and rear disc brake oil change. Overall happy with bike. Doing his duty for taking to office daily which is 100 km per day with ease. Advisor had pointed to change brake pads and chain set at next service. Currently looking good.

Boss, what is the cost of Honda Throttle per litre now? ₹750?Originally posted by NainHardeep View PostDone with 4th service today at 14060 km. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Lower top speed should be because of lack of windshield/headlight fairing(practically non existent almost) and also because of petrol tank covering extensions which create drag. That's why it has similar performance as that of Unicorn 150 regarding top speed which has somewhat functional fairing and no tank extension. Hornet pick up is somewhat better though but not by a good margin because of higher power & torque.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostMost 150cc bikes have their top speed around 115-120 (except R15, CBR150R). Even then, with good aerodynamics, top speed won't go up by a big margin, maybe 5-10kmph. Add Speedo error to the equation, and hornet comes in at around 117-120kmph at the maximum.Originally posted by Anupam Das View PostLower top speed should be because of lack of windshield/headlight fairing(practically non existent almost) and also because of petrol tank covering extensions which create drag. My opinion is that if you want higher speeds on highway without stressing the engine, a bigger capacity bike is required.Last edited by Shashank K R; 03-19-2017, 04:40 PM.

I have seen videos of Gixxer SF clocking 130+ kmph, more than Gixxer because of better aerodynamics. Speedo error may be there. I have also the feeling that Gixxer( not SF) can overtake Hornet on highway.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostEven then, with good aerodynamics, top speed won't go up by a big margin, maybe 5-10kmph. The SF has a top speed about 7-8kmph more than the naked. Definitely the true speed won't be more than 125-127kmph. I don't think the gixxer can overtake hornet on the highway, unless you have an SF and get a very long stretch, and I wouldn't risk going that long riding at the top speed. Even my gixxer refused to cross 106 on the highway. My unicorn 160 wouldn't cross 103 sometimes. It all depends on the conditions.Originally posted by Anupam Das View PostI have seen videos of Gixxer SF clocking 130+ kmph, more than Gixxer because of better aerodynamics. Finally I would say that the maximum cruising speed on hornet/gixxer would be around 90-95 kmph without stressing the engine much. I wouldn't go more thanks to the unpredictable Indian highways.
The top speed isn't a speed at/near which I would cruise on the highway, it would be just a small run on an empty stretch. I wouldn't be obsessing about the top speed. That's all I can say.Last edited by Shashank K R; 03-19-2017, 05:06 PM.

My Hornet also refuses to cross 105 kmph sometimes. Do you have both Hornet & Gixxer?Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostThe SF has a top speed about 7-8kmph more than the naked. Nope, had a unicorn 160 which had issues. Sold it to buy gixxer.Originally posted by Anupam Das View PostMy Hornet also refuses to cross 105 kmph sometimes. Do you have both Hornet & Gixxer?
Just another example - my friend's pulsar 150 wouldn't cross 101 on the highway, while I could get it to show 129 on speedo on a different highway. I employed the same shifting technique as him.
Rev a little hard, and shift at 6.5-7k+ RPM. This is common to all my top speed runs. But I don't reach even the advertised top speed sometimes.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I would say that it is around 85-95, better to keep it at the lower end of the range. The sweet spot in my unicorn 160 was around 87-88 at which I found that vibes were the least, and the engine was humming (not screaming).Originally posted by IamAditya View PostFor a 150cc bike riding 90kmph plus for long duration is not good.
70-80Kmph is the maximum cruising speed for a 150cc.
On my gixxer it is at 85kmph - zero vibes, and a smooth and relaxed exhaust note.
You do need to take breaks in between though, even though the bike can do it.
