Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hey, thanks for the reply. I usually fill 5 litres after reserve and then ride till the next reserve. This 100 rs petrol thing was suggested by the mechanic so that I could give him a number sooner rather than later. Because for emptying a tank it might take me more than two weeks. I shift at around 5k rpm, and do only 80+ kmph for really short stretches since the route I have does not allow me more.Originally posted by DigantRai View Post

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I am not checking for mileage regularly, however last time I filled HP Power petrol 10 Ltrs and it seems I am getting >50Km/Ltr.
Also, including last weekend I did breakfast ride 90Km at high speed 80-90 on highway.
As I mentioned throttle response is better. Also, it helps to remove deposits. Once in a while try premium petrol.
Again, If anyone is not doing idle warm-up in morning for at least 30sec. Please do it. It will make your drive smooth.Last edited by anoopkumar0; 02-21-2018, 01:04 PM.------------------

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I will try the HP power petrol today since I have hit the reserve already. I always try to warm up for a minute by putting it on the choke alone and it seems to do wonders for throttle response in Cold starts.

I doubt your riding style...Originally posted by mtmr View PostHi all, I have a weird mileage issue in my bike. During the first 1000 Kms, I got an average of 33 Kms, with normal driving, never above 90 kmph and a decent break-in. I went to the service center (Tansi Honda, Ramagondanahalli), they performed a mileage test, and driving at ~40kmph, they managed to get 47 kmpl. They said they will do some adjustments, and did some tappet adjustment, reduced the idle and gave the bike back to me. This time, I got around 36 Kmph, with very fuel economy mindful driving. When I took it back, they refused to take it, had to argue for 3 hours before the Service General Manager himself took for a test drive, drove normally with around 50 kmph top speed and got only 40 kmpl. I told him this is how it is and if I cruise at 60 kmph, this goes down even more. He agreed, took the bike, and they replaced Jet needle in the carb and gave it back, claiming they got 60 Kmph when driving in economy mode. I drove, and surprise, I got 36 km. I figured there might be a very minor leak, and closed the petcock every night. Ended up getting 42-46 kmph. 45.6 kmph when cruising at 90 kmph on a trip to Vellore. However, if I left the petcock on, the poor mileage returns. The ASC tried to reproduce the issue, but they could not, and got 44 kmpl for a litre, with the fuel cock on over the course of three days. I took it back, filled with 100 Rs worth of petrol on friday, and bike hit reserve on Monday with 36km on the trip meter. Note that there is no way someone is stealing the fuel. The vehicle is in shade both at home and office. What could be the issue? The mechanic told me that people only get 35 kmpl in Hornets. Is it true? Is it possible that the carb might be slowly leaking fuel so that I see a mileage issue only when I take longer to consume a litre of fuel? My next step is to get a Mileage testing bottle, fill it with some petrol and let it hang overnight to see any reduction in fuel level. My suspicion is that there is some minor issue with the float. How do I prove it? The AFR is perfect since the mechanic showed be a good maroon burn in the Carb. He is very polite, hence I don't wish to override him, but he says he cannot report this to Honda and get the Carb replaced since he cannot reproduce the issue. What do you think I should do?
Sorry for the long post. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
One is supposed to close the petcock whenever the bike is going to rest for a while. If it leaks very very slowly, it is difficult to find that out as petrol evaporates very fastly. Get it checked again. 45 kmpl is good for a bike like Hornet at 90.Originally posted by mtmr View PostAs I had mentioned in the post, even I was able to get good mileage at times. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
There should not be any leakage... But if it's very slow.. let say 1 ltr in over 2 weeks. Th3n it's hard to find. Better to cut the outward pipe and install.
Also, I don't remember exact thing but .. after ride sone petrol get accumulated in carburator and there might be causing evaporation. BS4 norms added to reduce this evaporation.
This should also be checked to be sure.------------------

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Looks like we should not run the engine on choke for more than 15 seconds. I found this in owner's manual. Probably that is also another reason you end up wasting fuel.Originally posted by mtmr View PostI will try the HP power petrol today since I have hit the reserve already. About 15 seconds after the engine start
push the choke knob all the way to fully
OFF (B). If idling is unstable , Open the
throttle slightly. - Page 37 of owners Manual

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Yes, Ideally it should not be required after 15 sec. Engine get warm enough and no need to run engine at choke which runs At more thab 3k rpm .Originally posted by DigantRai View PostLooks like we should not run the engine on choke for more than 15 seconds. Hornet rear disc problem
I have a 1Month old Honda Hornet CB 160R 1400 kms run. But somehow I feel that the rear disc brake is not having the proper crunch as needed. It just feels a little better than a drum brake Pulsar 150 that I rode before. Is it normal or something needs to be done?

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I noticed a passer by Hornet in city and the chain was rattling like loud chain saw. [emoji33] ,
Guys, take care of chain clean and lube.
Recently, I got WD40 and it seems it loosen up chain joints better than 3M chain cleaner. Rear wheel is rotating more freely. [emoji106]------------------

This is the main problem i found in hornet to be taken care of very often.Originally posted by anoopkumar0 View PostI noticed a passer by Hornet in city and the chain was rattling like loud chain saw. [emoji33] ,

But i am using color thinner for cleaning and gear oil grade 80 lubricating, it is working great for me and also cheaper way. Done 3000 till now and chain cleaned 2 times and lubricated around 6-7 times also tightened 3-4 times.
Any surfactant used to remove oil just it takes more work, most of the guys and professional also using Diesel for cleaning. I am going with manual which says for lube grease or gear oil.
If there is any disadvantage please let me know ?

Check the carburettor float pin which may need replacement.Originally posted by mtmr View PostHi all, I have a weird mileage issue in my bike.
