  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

Within a year, relay stopped working. The bike was running fine until it failed to start up.

Local mechanic took ₹450. Was I overcharged?

He checked the spark plug and afterwards proceeded to replace the relay by claiming that there is no current.

Agreed! Older Hondas worked better than the current new gens.

There isn't a need to start the engine either, just move the vehicle forward slowly and you can hear a screeching noise that's similar to the ones made by older vehicles when they apply brakes. The ASC washed the disc plate with some detergent and water with the wheel rotating. It went away for a few days, but from the last couple of days it's back.Anyone of you faced the same problem in your bike? Any solutions for this.
Probably not an issue with the disc, but with the sprocket's decorative plate. It has come loose and is resonating with the main sprocket. Please check my blog post and see if it helps.

Chain & Sprocket changed at 20,700 Km. Back tyre at 20,500 KM. Front tyre changed MRF NYLOGRIP ZAPPER -FYM at 18,000 KM for Rs.1,800. Back in Action..... MRF brand back tyre (140-70/17) was not available , so I changed to CEAT.

                  18% GST tax= 9% State+ 9% central
But in this case it's 18+18

Replace air filter every 18000 kms per the book or before if it is clogged or if you drive in extremely dusty conditions (most of India). Since Hornet's air filter is cheap at 100 odd bucks, one can replace every 10000-12000 kms.

There is no replaceable oil filter. The Rotor/Centrifugal oil filter and oil strainer screen inside the clutch cover has to be cleaned every 12000 kms. Most people do this at the time of clutch plate change (35-80,000 kms, depending on how one drives), but IMHO, it is better to get atleast the strainer cleaned before/at 1000 kms so that whatever metal debris/clutch material/gasket debris of breaking-in phase be removed.

There is a "cup" below the fuel tap - its strainer has to be cleaned every 6000 kms per the book. There is another strainer inside the tank itself - nobody cleans that usually.

Can oil filter cleaning be done at home...??? Is it a DIY? Or has to be done through ASC?

ASC will usually not do it saying it enough for the filter to be cleaned during clutch change/cleaning. Yes, can be done as a DIY - there are many posts in xBhp itself. Google images for "Xbhp centrifugal filter" and "CBF125 centrifugal filter". Usual good practices to be followed during a DIY applies here too.

Guys, i am planning to buy second hand hornet 160R. The bike is a 2017 model (drum brake model) bike, purchased on mar 2017 has run in just 3000 kms. The seller and demanding 75k for the bike. i have requested for 65k. Is it a good price to close the deal.
I am coming from a RTR 160, having driven 5years with it. It never disappointed me. What can i expect better from Hornet 160R. Thanks Need your suggestions.
