How's your gearbox, mine gets little bit hard at lower rpms and at higher rpms it becomes ok. Do you know any new hornet owner facing vibration issue, is it common?

I find the gear box slick enough. There is a "tak" sound for 1st 2nd and probably 3rd but doesn't feel hard to shift.
And as for vibrations, I dont know if any owner of the 2018 model has this problem. Actually I dont know any other owner of the 2018 model.

I've heard people say that 2018 version has solved all the problems that were there in 2017 and has a better pickup? Can anyone share their experience?

The gear box ratio is little odd. Smaller speed bracket for 1st and 2nd gear.
Try over 5.5k RPM, i.e. in rang of 65-80 Kmph and see if you like the response.

This. The lower range sucks TBH and the bike feels all slacky and forces you to shift and use the half-clutch in higher gears (3rd) to do lower speeds.

Yes every time we have to downshift to pick up from a slow speed. Specially 1-2 gears are tricky.
In 2nd gear, bike has a hard time pulling from 5-15kmph speeds, this gets worse in inclined roads(imagine scenario with big speed bumps in inclined road) so have to downshift to 1st and bring speed above 10-15kmph and then upshift to 2 or have to half clutch in 2 so it pulls.

Yes that's true , everyday activa and jupiters beat me in acceleration in traffic [emoji7]

Yeah, hornet wakes up only from 3rd gear, due to low speed limits of 1st and 2nd gear, acceleration feels sluggish. Hornet is more suitable for open roads, i guess. But in some YouTube videos I've seen hornet doing the maximum speed of 45kmph in 1st gear itself, i don't know how their bikes are so free revving. Search hornet 1st gear challenge in YouTube.

I've felt the same more or less. And that's the case on speed breakers as well.

I understand your pain. In such cases, I do downshift to 1st gear for safety and then tolerate the bike being sluggish during the climb.

Custom engine tuning I guess. Increasing pickup at the expense of Fuel Efficiency. I've seen it on Gixxers, the difference being that the console actually lets you do that. I don't think Hornet is designed to be revved to so hard due to the engine being so smooth and all. It should take a toll on the engine life.

Again, rev the engine hard, and you'll reach nearly 50kmph. Just give full throttle and don't let go. That's it. It'll definitely strain the engine and reduce engine life if done too much.
Plus, you have to wait for the engine to set. You can easily do it once you cross 6000kms on the odo. I'm sure you'll like your Hornet once it crosses around 5000-6000kms. I have seen that you're babying the bike as you fear that the engine will become vibey if you rev hard. I have also seen you mentioning vibes on your Hornet. Every engine has vibes at some RPM range. Start riding normally. Stop babying the bike.

There's no such option on the console. There is just an RPM shift indicator which just blinks or lights up when the engine reaches the RPM the indicator is set for. Hornet is really tall geared due to which it can touch nearly 50kmph in first gear when redlined.

I see. But again, doing it wouldn't make me feel comfortable mentally. That's like torturing the bike with something that it's not meant for. Revving upto 9k RPM, hell yeah but redlining is a bit too far.

Still, at 9k it should touch around 40kmph in first gear. The tall gearing and the engine tune makes Hornet sluggish till 5000rpm. On the other hand, if you're a sedate rider, it'll give you really good mileage.

Here's how I shift the bike, based on the sluggishness I feel from my regular usable Hornet. It has run over 23K and is too free now. It's a 2016 model.

                          0 to 10kmph in 1st Gear
                          11 to 22kmph in 2nd
                          23 to 34kmph in 3rd
                          35 to 50kmph in 4th
35 to 65kmph in 4th (revving at about 8000 RPM)
50kmph+ in 5th gear and accelerating upto 9000 RPM. Never gone any higher than that. The shitty roads here won't permit the same.

Nowadays i shift at 5k rpm from 3rd gear sometimes, after slowly riding for 5 kilometers . It feels good [emoji16]

Yeah, the petrol prices are so high nowadays, i ride at 50kmph in 5th gear to get good mileage, and occasionally ride at 70kmph.
