Overtaking must never be done in low RPMs. If you are running in low RPM before an overtake, shift down a gear so that your RPM is at least 4k before attempting an overtake. Trying to pull from a lower RPM will give you throttle lag and poor engine braking which put you in a less safer situation. Also, it may damage the engine. Also, never shift up till you've completed an overtake (unless you are running at 8k+ RPM).

Actually in low RPM , i wont attempt to overtake...
What I meant to say is, if I try to overtake a car, say from 30kmph to 80kmph (attempted overtaking speed) ....the power delivery is not instant... Step by step gear shifts and linear power are making it a bit difficult on such situations...

Even with drag race like shifts, a 160 cc bike will take 6-7 seconds to accelerate from 30-80 kmph. So realistically, it can be 10+ seconds

May be, seems only with ktm 390 (below 400cc segment) we can take instant overtakes...

But, Highway is the place where the CB Hornet 160R feels much at home rather than city traffic ride..

I was also amazed when i cruised on 103kmph with pillion for about half an hour with ease, most of the time i maintained 80 to 90kmph. 100kmph cruising capability + 50 kmple mileage= jack of all trades ( enough for a 160cc segment air cooled bike, fully satisfied). It just needs a highway to turn into a beast [emoji4][emoji4]

Yep, its a solid highway machine with better fuel efficiency combined with super smooth mid range, No vibrations, super stability, strong brakes, upright seating Position and nice handlebar position...

Even for a single stretch of 300km, we won't feel tired or pain,

                  That's the Hornet speciality....

And mainly for this reason, monthly once I take my hornet to my hometown (200km from Bangalore)
Route : Bangalore to Chennai highway

Yeah riding position is best in segment, no pain or discomfort at all, balance of the bike is also very good.

Performance wise unicorn 160 , hornet 160...which is better (except low RPMs)
When Honda announced hornet , it told as hornet is produced with unicorn engine with tuned performance for high RPMs..

But I heard some people saying, unicorn is better on road...hornet is better only in papers....is that so....?

Unicorn 160 was more like xBlade and adjusted to perform well on low end performance and in city riding. The gear ratios were rather short when compared to the Hornet. It's true that the Hornet uses a Uni 160 engine, just like the xBlade. There's a huge bump in power and gear ratios, which makes it more rev happy when compared to Uni 160. Performance wise, Hornet is a complete beast when you open the throttle on free roads. Unicorn 160 isn't. It was always designed to be a sportier version of the 150 with some bump in power. The Unicorn moniker was always associated with the conservative commuter design of 150 and I guess that's what made 160 sell less. And that's what made Honda re-use the engine into Hornet and make it a proper street fighter they intended Unicorn 160 to be. And if I remember correctly, the old 160's had a lot of issues plaguing it.

Yes I accept, hornet is a beast in open roads., But low RPM power is a little let down... particularly city traffic 'stop and Go' ride... If low RPM performance is kind of a Gixxer... Then hornet would be an all rounder...

I bet Unicorn 160 would have sold more, if it would have been launched with Hornet's design and chassis.

But the beast look will be gone

Considering the head Turner look of hornet, we can somehow tolerate this lesser low end grunt performance...
