  • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

Well, my uncle who is new to sportsbike rides my bike sometimes, and I have to tell him the minimum speeds each gear is capable of without lugging, because he is too scared to give enough throttle.

I feel this would help Dominar owners who are new to sportsbikes, we can guide them as to not go below "this speed in this gear".

I read that dominar gave 38 kmpl. Sorry to spoil the party but mine gave only 19kmpl. Most of the riding is in peak traffic conditions. JVLR Mumbai peak hours.

That's hard to believe sir. Is that calculated by tank to tank method?

Yeah filled to the brim on the day of delivery and today after 185 Kms it gulped 9.81 litres. I don't ride in a fuel efficient way and did not turn off the engine while waiting for signals to go green and traffic is really bad (40- 50 minutes for 11 Kms).

            • Bad vibrationsat 4000-4500 RPM

Got my Dominar 400 ABS on 26th of Jan. Loved everything in the bike except the bad vibrations that kick in after 4000 RPM. Can't really complain much as the bike is absolute value for money, but don't understand why couldn't they take care of those vibrations that so many people have complained about in such a refined bike. You think they can fix this in the first service at 500 kms ?

depends on how much you are getting. when i test rode dominar, i couldnt feel any. i am an r15 rider by the way. i do prefer some vibrations though over none, like r15 was in first year of ownership.

surprised that so many news outlets are reporting it as if they are royal enfield level vibrations.

Test rode the CBR250R and Dominar today for some comparison. The views are also in comparison with D390 which I ride and have clocked 11k km since its purchase in July 2015.

The bike feels absolutely solid just like the CBR. They've definitely upped the fit and finish and quality of plastics. The smoothness of the engine is almost as good as the CBR with linear acceleration. I didn't get any sluggish feeling at 25 kmph in 3rd gear as someone mentioned it here. The gear shifts are better in the Dominar compared to CBR but not as slick as the Duke. The exhaust note is bassy and almost like the Mojo, except at higher revs it starts to sound like the KTMs but less tinnier. The torque and the low-end pull is way better than the CBR's and that is to be expected (the vibes are also well damped all the way to the top). The brakes are better than CBR's what I felt. The bike looks big and the headlight is stunning to look at and I'm sure it provides great illumination as well.

Overall, I'd say this is a much better product in the Bajaj line up. It's mature and also the most well rounded bike except for the wind protection. Buying a CBR is not really a good value proposition now, except may be if you're looking for ultra-smooth engine, the Honda badge, fairing and long-term reliability. I'm really tempted to buy this. As the days have gone by, I've become less sporty rider and become much more of a tourer. And this bike is by no means slow, it only pulls linearly.

                          Ruined the bike, IMO.
