Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Thanks, but it seems fairly odd. All our vehicles were registered within a day or 2 (and I am counting 10+). At worse it took us a week. Has something changed recently? Or is it that Chennai has too many registrations happening?Originally posted by psuram View PostI am from chennai it took me 45 days to get my vehicle registered and i guess tgere are no issues with BS4
I want to go to the RTO and the sales myself but the time doesn't permit. It took me 2 scratches on the tank to go the the 3M guys! Which btw, turned out to be helpful. I accidently dropped a sharp object on the tank and the plastic came peeling off, leaving a noticeable spot. Good that I didn't scratch the paint this time.
Think I'll just wait for another week and see what happens. Overall happy with the bike and really hoping for good service.
A few things I want to talk to the service guys about.
1. Bike appears to be changing it characteristic sound when the clutch is fully pressed or depressed. Have not been keen enough to notice it when the bike is in gear. hoping that it is normal with this bike.
2. The rear fender is misaligned.
3. I noticed nominal oil leakage in the engine area. Not sure if it is coolant as I have noticed that the coolant level has also come down since I brought her home.
4. Sticking to the gear shift for the first 1k km is difficult as the engine lugs. Per our fellow xbhpians, I must keep it around 3-4k RPM mark. Again, why would bajaj put that in the manual if they knew about bottom level perfomance/issues.
None of this is troubling me apart from the oil leakage. Which one of the youtubers had also noticed, pointed out and got fixed in first service.
The thing that's bothering me is the side stand. It doesn't appear to be capable of taking this amount of weight. Bike is leaning more than it should. That too within a month.
Regardless, one thing is certain. There is no other bike which can compete here (value for money is too good). Bajaj has put extreme efforts to build this muscle and it will sell more than their expectations.

1) SOL/ZEUSOriginally posted by vvvsss View PostWat about sol r Ls2 r mt
2) MT
3) LS2
I went to a helmet shop and tried all these helmets, Zeus has the best inner paddding, gives a proper SNUG fit.
Zeus also have DOUBLE D-RING lock.
Initially its too fit that, you cannot open or close your mouth properly. Just in few days, the padding will take the shape of your head.
Try yourself don't buy online.
You must make sure which ever helmet you buy fits tightly.

Two things.. Can you please share a photo of the affected area of the oil leakage and also the side stand issue?Originally posted by xearoum View PostThanks, but it seems fairly odd. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi I got my Dominar on 28th March from Gem Bajaj Pune and got SMS for RTO tax on 30th March. After 10 days still no message for my no I personally visited and ask showroom guys reason for delay. They told me that series has been changing so you are getting delay. Normally it takes only 2 days after paying RTO tax.Originally posted by xearoum View PostAny D400 owner in Pune can confirm the time it took to get the bike registered (MH12 passing)? It's been 20 days and the sales guy is telling me that I'll get the message directly.
Now am wondering if this has something to do with BS4.

Please, no reason to be scared friend. Do perform good PDI and you should be OK.Originally posted by Chetak.Jr View PostTwo things.. Can you please share a photo of the affected area of the oil leakage and also the side stand issue?

Sorry I cannot get the pictures as of now but this is what you looking for (oil leak).
About the side stand, you get a hint when you see the bike tilting more than you expect.
If you have gone for anything other than white, you must know the paint quality is mediocre. Put some kind of paint protect asap.

Thanks a lot for the photo and the assurance. It really helped. One more point added in the PDI. Have you looked into any after market side stands to prevent the extreme tilting of the bike?Originally posted by xearoum View Post

And now the biggest question - I have decided to go with the plum color. By mediocre do you mean that the color tends to chip off of gets scratched easily. I have been recommended to keep the body waxed to protect the paint. [emoji21] [emoji21] I might have to rethink about the color now...

I am not sure about wax polish though probably be better to keep the shine. I had to keep my backpack on the tank for a 12KM ride. Realized scratch marks immediately. Chiseled tank is difficult to cover with 3M plastic and will not look super tidy. A sacrifice I am willing to make though. About the side stand, I want to talk to the service center first; along with all other things I have mentioned earlier.

Do you think laminates will be helpful? I read on this thread somewhere that the owner got the body panels laminated to prevent the paint job from getting damaged! What color is your bike?Originally posted by xearoum View PostI am not sure about wax polish though probably be better to keep the shine. I had to keep my backpack on the tank for a 12KM ride. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
By no way FZ25 can have better power to weight ratio than Dominar. In fact it is much inferior ratio, but Dominar mileage is a concern if usage is more. However 250cc FZ25 has better power to weight ratio than Royal Enfield 350cc engine, mostly because of more valves and fuel injection allowing higher rpm, and lower weight.Originally posted by deepDmnr View PostThe SCs know this is a premium product and the Dominar branding is important to Bajaj. This is high cc aspirations from both Bajaj as well as you. A decade back everyone wanted high mileage 80 kmpl bikes. Now it's high displacement. As with everything there are pros and cons. The engine is not as refined as I would have liked but it delivers power, that it does well. With 373 cc and single cylinder , expect vibrations. The power to weight ratio of Yamaha FZ25 is far better than Dominar. The highway rides and hard braking is great on the dominar. Before you buy ride for a few hours. Put this condition in the dealership. 2 hours test ride or no deal.
At the end of the day, there is plenty left over power for most riders and Indian road / traffic conditions. Which is exactly how i like it. The rest is just noise. HTH.
