There is no test drive for non abs version so cannot directly comment on that aspect.
But if you have good braking skills it won't be much of difference.
But, on wet surface the the Abs version will brake better and will require less effort from the driver.

P.S You can't do a stoppie on the abs version!

Oh, I didn't know that there is no test ride available for non-abs version. But any owner who has bought a non-abs can please comment.

Ok, I don't know my breaking skills yet , I have ridden TVS Victor & Unicorn only in the city traffic for a few years and consider myself as a decent rider.

I can't think of doing a stoppie any time soon.

I would suggest you to go for abs variant as it is a heavy bike :-)

Hello All

Congrats to all for new D400. One thing needs to ask. What are negative points of this bike you come across?

thanks

IMO, the negatives would be,
Large turning radius
No gear indicator
But, there are so many positives, which totally negate these.

Hi buddy,
I suggest you go for the abs version, as it might be a life saver in unexpected occurences.
Anyways, AFAIK saudjawed is the only person who's booked a Non-Abs version. I'm not sure if he's taken delivery yet. I hope he can help you with your question of braking.
Also, as satyajit200ns said, there's no test vehicle for non-abs. So wait for some reviews from non-abs owners until you are convinced enough to go for non-abs.

Hello. Congrats on your bike bro.
The first service period is 500-750 kms as per the manual, but the wrench icon comes up at 450kms. By the time you reach home, your odo would be at 420-430 kms. Extra oil wont be necessary, if you are not going to be riding much after this ride as you can expect more nearby showrooms to have dominar technicians. If you will be riding a lot around, and you have to service your bike in Howrah only, then it is better to top up your oil before the ride. Anyways, meet the service engr at your Howrah showroom personally, and talk to him about your situation.

The breaking performance would be the same but till you go very hard on the brakes and lock them up , this is where ABS kicks in and saves you by preventing wheel lock , ABS saves life in emergency situations (that's my opinion though)

First of all .. Congratulations for your new ride.

Helmet isn't free. They will charge you for that.. it's your choice to refuse for it if you want. In my case helmet wasn't of good quality so i refused to receive it as mandatory accessory.

Try to maintain speed not more than 70 80.
No oil change is require before leaving showroom but remember service period is 500 to 750 KMs.

But 70-80 in a nh-16 with a brand new 400cc bike wont be possible.. but still will clock within 90kmph..
Hope to get a good fuel economy..

Coming to the topic of ABS or non-ABS the braking performance would more or less be the same, for the same motorcycle genus. The difference here is when situation go above and beyond your control. No matter what braking skills one has, there's always room to improve braking skills. And when the tarmac is dry, your whatever braking skills help you to slow the bike 99% of the time, when you are fully in control.

Throw in water, sand, black ice et cetera, and your same braking skills that saved you in the dry would almost be non-existent. One's got to remember that, braking is to slow down, and skids happen for a lot of reasons, braking distance, applied brake force, contact patch, where the contact patch was, much more. This is where ABS comes in to play, to reduce the odds of the tire losing traction. It's purely a mechanism to keep the wheel running, simple logic. When a wheel rotates it can make amends on its travel path, if it doesn't we go the wheel way.

So, ultimately, ABS is a good option when you are least aware of what you can expect, and when your braking skills are superfluous to non-existent in certain situations.

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

THE END

Buying Dominar?
My Suggestion is... Get the ABS variant itself.

Dominar is heavy bike so, need good breaking force to stop, ABS mean, just pull the lever hard in sticky situations , eyes closed.

I own a RS200 abs, which has single channel abs only, still lot of my friends who bought non ABS versions have regrets about their decision they took to go with non-abs.

Cheers.
