First the technician said the bike cannot be serviced now as it had only 2700 on odo and needs to be done only at 4500kms. Then later I told him that I will pay for it, I do not need free service as of now, and I will get it at 4500kms. He agree and asked me what needs to be done. I told to top up engine oil, clean air filter, clean throttle body and check any other stuffs that draws back the performance and mileage. For which he said "Engine oil needs no topup, air filter can't be cleaned and can only be replaced at 20,000 kms, for mileage nothing can be done as this bike is FI". I then argued with him. He took the bike for test ride and didn't say anything. I said if you're not going to fix it I am shooting a mail to bajaj after which he agreed to do whatever I say.

These svc people are really annoying, I mean how can he be so irresponsibly for a bike which I paid 1.7L? It's no small amount.
If my bike doesn't get fixed I am planning to mail bajaj about it. What do you guys think?
You don't have to pay any thing for such jobs unless some consumable is used. Try a different svc and do shoot a mail to bajaj and do use social media like fb , Twitter etc.

They said it would cost me around 900rs for engine oil topup, chain clean up and lubrication, valves clean up, and water wash.
But unfortunately that's the only authorized svc in my city. Anyways thanks for your suggestion and will contact bajaj about it.

          good luck.
Lol. No bud. You can be in any thread.

Bikers might cross shop between brands, but they never cross shop between single and twin cylinder bikes.

One is a simple single cylinder. The other is atleast 2X more expensive twin cylinder. If one can buy a twin cylinder, he would go for it rather than comparing it to single cylinder bike.

In reality twin cylinder bikes are superior and cannot be compared with single cylinder in any way. You misunderstood my words. If you like twin cylinder bikes and you can afford them, why are you looking in a single cylinder bike thread. You won’t get that smooth ness or torque in single cylinder bike.

Twin cylinder bikes.. be prepared to sync throttle body periodically, if not you might damage engine components.

My profile may answer all that, I am a 'Rookie' :-) been quiet some time ridden a bike (last was CBR 150). Office location changed and need for daily commute, but better than CBR 150, bit more power and comfort.. that's all. Okay with service being expensive, if they provide quality. And I won't sell it (about resale value) :-).

I would suggest do a full oil change at home or any local mechanic. Buy 1.5ltr 10w50 full synthetic oil either bajaj dtsi10000 by total or motul 7100v.
Also buy the oil filter and filter o ring
Remove the lower plastic cowl , open the drain bolt, oil filter and magnetic filter(bottom center). Put new oil filter with fresh o ring, clean the magnetic filter and put new oil.
They must have used 20w50 semi oil at service that is why it is being consumed faster. Airfilter would be ok.
              Wash is ur choice.
And do shoot a mail to bajaj and try to get hold of ur area engineer.

                • Engine oil

Engine oil level on my dominar shows below minimum level mark in morning but when i start the bike for about 15 min in idle or when i ride the bike for about 5 to 10 kms oil level reaches between upper and lower level marks. Is it normal? and my question is how to check engine oil level in accurate manner.

All good here. On the cold engine the oil level won't show or would be very low.
Start the engine have a small round let it warm up. Then shut it off and wait for 2 minutes , straightened the bike let the oil settle then check.
This is called warm level check.

if your last bike was a CBR 150, then you haven't seen the costs of Twin cylinders or Inline four's in India. The CBR 650F silencer costs 40K. These bikes consume atleast 2X more qty of oil, often synthetic. basically, we can buy another CBR 150 with 5 or 6 service costs. i don't think that is small amount, because the cars in US don't cost this much to service.

                        UPDATE 2:

Finally the issue has been fixed and bike is back to normal! As I suspected the culprit was the clogged air filter (real badly clogged up for some reason) and low engine oil level. Got the filter cleaned, oil toped up and chain cleaned up. My bill was 716rs but they asked me to pay only the labour charge of 236rs and I did so.
Thank you everyone who helped me out!
                        Have a great day!

I have had same issues with my pulsar 200 Ns , my mileage was 16 - 17 KMPL ( reserve to reserve ) . I changed the air filter at 6000 KMS now I am getting around 25- 30 KMPL. Any idea what I can do to increase it more ? Cause I have heard many NS200 user get around 40 KMPL .
And what is the most accurate way of checking for mileage ?
Note - my bike is only 6 months old , done only 6500 kms .

Posting in Dominar thread cause I have been following your posts and I have had the same exact issues .

Mileage depends on a lot of factors. It is mainly influenced by your riding style. For example two of my friends have r15. One of them get a mileage of 40-45 kmpl while the other gets just 28-33. This is because of their riding styles.
Some other factors include your weight, pillion riding, traffic conditions, frequently shifting in lower gears etc.
If you think your engine is rough and the mileage drops (which was in my case), get your engine oil checked. If you live in a dusty environment like me then get you air filter checked periodically.
And for testing mileage, fill up your tank, ride for a fair amount of distance, refill the tank again. Note the odo. The distance in your odo where you reach your reserve minus the starting odo divided by your fuel tank capacity is your approximate mileage.

I have been riding from past almost past 8 years and I have basic touring experience also , I maintain a speed of 40 to 60 and 5000 to 6500 RPM . I have not crossed 90 KMPH till now . Using gears judiciously
Am not overweight in any sort to affect mileage ( I know heavier people having same bike and getting higher mileage)
I travel mostly on empty roads due to my timings of travel .
Air filter was changed and I have got significant improvement ,need to check on the oil though .

I do reserve to reserve checks but Bajaj SVC kept telling me that's wrong way to check( not accurate) and I have to fill my tank to the top and then empty it completely .

Get ur afr setting to 4.25 turns and set the rpm to the recommended level. Adjust the chain to 25 to 30mm slack then check the fe. Anything more would be ot here can pm me or ask around in ns200 thread.
Check the mentioned with ur svc or a local mechanic.
