Also, always switch off engine before attempting chain maintainance and even then, keep your hands away from sprockets.Originally posted by arun_suresh View PostSo what about cleaning the chain? Do I have to buy some chain clean? or Kerosene/Diesel enough for cleaning the chain?

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hey guys. There is a smoke from cat con front side that is just below the rear suspension after a long ride. I lubed it with gear oil yesterday. Is it from the oil sticked on a cat con and exhaust pipe? I believe so. If someone could confirm it? I have seen oil burn earlier while lubing due to it was falling on exhaust.

Quote from DOC BangaloreOriginally posted by arun_suresh View PostYeah thanks, mate, I will be careful. So can we use diesel for cleaning chain?
Regarding diesel (internet research in 3weeks), if there are no additives, is as good as kerosene. But if there is alcohol content in it(15% ethanol), it will eat into orings rubber by oxidizing. You can use diesel, followed by soapy solution and water rinse, dry and then lube.Wind in my hair.... and I'm semi bald...

Yes kerosene/Diesel/wd40 all are good to clean the chain. And works better than cleaners.Originally posted by arun_suresh View PostSo what about cleaning the chain? Do I have to buy some chain clean? or Kerosene/Diesel enough for cleaning the chain?

Yes it is the gear oil from the chain , don't worry just wipe it off, and yes you can change oil at 5k kms though full synthetic oils last longer but better to change at 5 to 7k kms interval, not need to change before that. Just keep a tab on level and if the engine feels too rough then change early.Originally posted by faysal_khan View PostHey guys. I personally do not know any svc, but as a thumb rule try and go to a svc on a weekday with a prior appointment(preferably first in the morning) and get it serviced in your presence. Lesser crowd, and you can see if the bike is being serviced properly.Originally posted by chrisnihar View PostI stay near JNTU. Any good service centers nearby?
Almost every svc is the same in terms of service and ripping you off..more so if you aren't present during service.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
White fumes are normal when the oil is subjected to hot surface such as exhaust and cat con, especially after a ride. These fumes would be similar to thick fumes like incense stick fumes. When chain oil is splashed over the hot exhaust surface they tend to fume, completely normal.Originally posted by faysal_khan View PostHey guys. Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I think it's primarily to remove the diesel from the chain. It's says soapy solution so it maybe OK. I haven't personally tried this ever. Been using WD40 for chain cleaning and now on Tribocor. They both work really well.Originally posted by Zapps View Postwater on chain? not idealWind in my hair.... and I'm semi bald...

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Guys... this is probably a moot question. But, do we have a riding group in Mumbai that goes on short / medium distance rides every so often? Short rides could be breakfast rides during the weekends. Medium distance would be 500 to 800 km round trip. I am talking about a group of people who have at least 20 years of riding experience. Do we have such a group?

That would be a very small and elite group who'd probably not be interested in the poor man's performance bike Dominar.Originally posted by bkb View PostGuys... this is probably a moot question. They'll probably own RE or some big bike from an international brand.Regards,

500 to 800 ? You can probably find groups who meet maybe once in a quarter for this, try facebook.Originally posted by bkb View PostGuys... this is probably a moot question. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi,
Took delivery of Dominar 400 (matte black) on 10th Oct'18. Completed 500 KMs, due for 1st servicing.
Below are my observations:
a. Stock Horn sucks - any suggestion for dual horn - Apache / Pulsar 150, etc. Not trumpet horns please.
b. When on move and pull cluck for slowing down, RMP is around 2-2.5K - is it normal? Comes down slowly and is steady on 1.5K when standing still.
c. Gear shift makes THUD sound (specially 1st gear and sometimes when shifting down) - is it normal?
d. Smooth engine specially when coming from TB 350.
e. Please let me know the does and don't.
Here comes few pictures:
