Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Coming to longevity, both will last the same if cared for.Originally posted by faysal_khan View PostHow about longevity of both? Would KTMs trellis last longer? Or Dominar's perimeter frame is equally good and just a difference of weight? Just curious since dominar is cheap out of two....
But talking about longevity after a crash, dominar's frame should be able to handle more stress, theoretically.
But again, KTM uses a high grade steel and frames on KTMs are known to be best in terms of handling stress, globally, heck , KTM is the new US enduro SX champ !
I ride a pulsar 150, no problems at all with the frame despite me throwing it around almost on every bad road, over a lakh kms on the odometer
Cheers !

Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I met few of those guys today at Dominar event.
Those who rode the 2019 version of Dominar 400.
Updates are like
Radiator changes. This new one is bigger and pushes hot air on your legs so it feels more warm than current gen.
Weight reduced slightly.
New exhaust with cat-con. Better ground clearance.
Raised handlebar.
Speedometer now have
AVG. Speed
Tops speed
Distance to empty
Just like KTM Duke
Secondary display on tank now have clock, gear shift indicator and rest is same.
Upside-down forks are still in under development. Bike starts to wobble after 130kmph. This issue hopefully will get resolved on final production bike.
Vibrations are still there but marginally less compared to current gen.
Engine not as refined as current gen. Especially after 5th gear.
So this was the feedback given from current gen dominar owner who was invited by Bajaj to test ride next gen version.
Bike is expected to launch early next year. So many issues to resolve on the next gen test bikes. So expecting to launch before March 19.
P.S. there was this discussion on table at event that there's is possibly the bigger adv/same version of Dominar likely to be seen in near future.
As Duke 790 is here and will launch soon so bajaj might copy the engine from same bike and develop its own dtsi engine. (Fingers crossed)Last edited by saorabbh; 10-29-2018, 12:53 AM."The Answer, My Friend,

Just one query: By gear shift indicator, do you mean the gear position which indicates the gear you are in or just the light which blinks when u need to shift a gear?
Also is the engine changed to DOHC or any improvement in performance?
Thanks for the updates though

Thanks man..Originally posted by Ijs View PostBajaj suggest topup at 5k kms or after it with dtsi 10000 10w50 total full synthetic. 2.5k kms topup is for semi synthetic oil like 20w50 dtsi 10000 which is made by hp and some others like mak etc.
Make sure to use recomended grade oil.
I have done close to 5k kms after last oil Change and the level is still good there is no drop.
I use the recommended grade oil, only that it's Motul... Also at 5k kms I will get the oil n filter changed...

Currently got a 390. I think its pretty much highest powered bike am gonna get.
Scares me silly if I whack open throttle on corner exits. Wonder what ppl getting higher powered bikes like 790 doing with that sort of power.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Do compare on policy bazar and with your local agent, showroom people usually offer lower idv with higher premium amount keep the idv in 1.31 to 1.40 l range and se what is the best u get. I paid 3452 for 1.31 idv for zero dep from oriental Insurance with my local agent where showroom guy was asking around 4.2k for lower idv. This is in Jan 2018. On the policy bazar you will get better deal i got my other two wheeler insurance done this month via pb and got the best idv and lower premium with zero dep. Chose only zero dep Insurance.Originally posted by jagaddjag View PostGuys how much amount paid for dominar 400 insurance renewal? Cheers mate, I will try to update this sheet on a daily basis. Lots to share, lots to speak about

I doubt that you need to adjust your tappet nuts, I hope you dont hear the knocking sound, Also the next few months being summer time..it's best not to tighten these nuts.. even if there's slight play it's ok. If it's tighten your engine will heat up more. Though, in both of my services service advisor didnt suggest to tighten the nuts.
It's actually done if a complete engine work is done.. like replacement of pistons...crankshaft..piston rings etc .. If god forbid engine work was done then it's best to adjust the tappet nuts after 600-700 kms along with replacement of engine oil

Yes it is possible but they don't do it here in India , but at one service center i have seen shims being replaced to get the proper valve clearance on the ktm 390, and it is the same for Dominar. It is alsi written in the manual somewhere to adjust clearance at 7k kms but they don't do it.
For ktm 390 shims replacement for valve clearance you can watch Ari's video on YouTube i guess it is motorcyclists magazine formerly mc garage.
Now Ari has left mc fro some other publication.

I'm planning to buy Dominar before April 2019. Is it worth waiting for the new version or should I go with the existing one.Originally posted by saorabbh View PostI met few of those guys today at Dominar event.

One issue I see with the new version is that it may take time to sort out the niggles that might be introduced due to all the updates. Current version is kind-off sorted IMO.
So which one should I go for?

Yes I mean gear position indicator. Which shows in which gear you're in.
No updates on internals. So can't confirm anything about DOHC or updated slipper clutch."The Answer, My Friend,

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Yes it's still under development. Out of 25 test bikes only 3 of them given to test ride to current dominar owners. Rest all have tons of issues as they said.Originally posted by VaibhavPisal View PostWow thats insider stuff. You sure all this is accurate? Looks like its still in development phase then.
Even the 3 test bikes which are better, still have wobbling and they don't run as smoothly as current gen.
But these are issues will be sorted on final production bike.
My only concern is how I can increase the front suspension travel on USD forks. ☹️"The Answer, My Friend,
